There's a petition for the German government to classify open source contributions as volunteer work. I've heard that in Germany there are certain social benefits for those who volunteer at least a minimum number of hours. Contributing to FOSS projects could count towards those hours. Meanwhile Europe is taking another stab at using FOSS as an alternative to US tech products, at least until they can develop their own native tech, which itself might be why they suddenly decided to import millions of jeets, in the mistaken belief that poos are who actually create US tech products.
