The shitty Corsair keycaps are completely falling apart at this point so I think I'll pull the trigger on getting a keycap set just to have a usable keyboard.https://aliexpress.com/item/1005005484468911.htmlThese WoB clone ones should be decent for the price, no? I like that they have both the normal division/multiply for the numpad as well as the 1u Win and Fn keycaps so I can use them on my K70 and then be able to migrate to a proper board in the future with normal spacing.
>>108151907As long as you have a newer K70 that has the standard bottom row, and not one of the models that has a fucked up non-standard 6.5u spacebar Basically if all the keys on your bottom row are the same width, you're safe. If some are wider than others, you have the fucked up Corsair layout that makes buying replacement keycaps impossible
>>108151921Yeah I have the fucked up old Corsair layout (K70 LUX) with the shitty laser etched keycaps that crack at the stem, but at this point I don't want to commit to a brand new board rn (no 104 ANSI with normal status LED's also zero jobs worth a shit) so at the very least I want some replacement keycaps to have a usable board. If I'll have to keep the stock spacebar, I'll keep it since that didn't wear out the same way other keys did, whatever. Left Control is on a second replacement keycap, so third in total, and the replacements have an even thinner, shittier stem. At this point it's 1/4th cracked and holding on by sheer willpower. WASDZC lettering is visibly worn out and I don't use the backlighting anymore so having double shot WoB legends would be a plus. Note that this is my very first mech with MX Browns I've had for 8 years so obv I'd be getting something completely different nowadays, with switches that are properly tactile and such.
>>108151986My brother had a corsair for that long, and he only cracked one of those shitty keycaps once, and that's because he's a fucking retard who rests his feet on his keyboardI don't know how you're managing to break them consistently
>>108151994It's the left Control specifically that's getting it's ass beaten by me, other keycaps may sit loosely or have light stem cracks, but it was the left Control that got beaten so hard that I've ruined three stems in total at this point. The OG one went circa 2020-2021, which is when I wrote to Corsair's support and they've sent me two replacements that were even shittier than the OG's (even less plastic on the stems) and now the second replacement got cracked. Again, Corsair's keycaps from these boards are notoriously shit quality, cheap plastic and laser etched, no double shot or anything.

I ordered some Greetech browns because they were dirt cheap at MK, supposedly they're even scratchier than MX browns. Sound tests with them sound retarded. Excited to try them
Hall effect/etc. is cool and all, but when are we getting a keyboard with load cell switches?
It's too bad both sellers bought WKL F1s when they did. It's time to fix the other one.
Anyone have any experience with MT3 or KAT cap sets? Not really trying to drop $120 on them only to find out I should have bought another SA set.
>>108155983MT3 is way better than SA imo. The dishing is noticeably deeper, so it "hugs" your fingertips more than SA. Just feels nice. This is dactyl specific but the sculpting, wider tops to the caps, & taller height meant that with SA it felt like the adjacent caps were in the way of the one you were trying to hit. That effect is basically gone with MT3. You could wait for a BOGO sale if you're worried about the price.
>>108155983MT3 is great, fun to use, looks good. But, at least in my experience with the ABS set, the spacebar doesn't sound great. And I think MT3 looks better the higher your keyboard's typing angle is. On a relatively flat keyboard it looks funny.Never tried real SA, only clones. The clones are OK.

MTNU sets are now available in-stock on GMK's website, Boomer Beige and WoB, price runs from ~$100 to ~$150 depending on keyboard size kit
>find nice keeb>no ISO layout
I am really liking the Melodics in the PC66. The stock stabs are nice, the PC plate is very stiff and not at all like the PC plates you'd get on other keyboards. They're just great for these switches. There's no QMK/VIA, but it doesn't need any software to use the macros either, they're all pre-mapped. I haven't used any smaller keyboards like this to know better, but it's a good thing to have anyway.
>>108164735I see. Thanks.
I'm feeling out of the beige mood and into black or white, does Shepno have any PBT keycap sets that come in either of those? Their quality was really good with the set I got. Also, I really wish that I bought that PBT Cherry profile 6.5u spacebar in bulk considering the shipping cost more than the keycap, cause I can't find that listing on Aliexpress anymore.
>>108165290>does Shepno have any PBT keycap sets that come in either of those? There's pic rel on Ali for something on the darker side.
>>108165290Shenpo is dye-sub. They buy the blank caps from a manufacturer (iirc Gateron? Don't really know though) and then do the dye-sublimation. They have no ability to do black keycaps with white legends by any other method than reverse dye sublimation, ie dye all over the keycap except for the legend. There are lots of problems with this, both visual color consistency and warping (dye sub uses heat, more dye means more heat, more potential warping)Shenpo does have a 2048 black on black set, but it's hard to read the legends on sets like that.Mechanicalkeyboards.com has a new double-shot WoB set made by Leopold which is just under $50 for a TKL kit and ~70 for full base kit. I ordered a set to check it out and will tell you guys whether it's any good when it gets here
Ah yes, they carry WoB too.
>>108158021Clickies don't go very well with aluminum. They go well with plastic.
>>108165414I wouldn't expect this to measure up against their beige sets
>>108164735That's not what exhaustive means.
AKKO TAC75 HE or MonsGeek FUN68? Anyone got a kb with either glares or flash switche? Wanna try a hall effect kb, sifted to everything and now got to decide which one, either cost ~40 euros.
>>108165550>Akko A or Akko B?The last time I recommended Akko the poster came back a week later to thank me for recommending a keyboard that was dead on arrival
How should I go about refurbishing an original K95? For something that uses Cherry MX Red switches, it is really loud and I'd really prefer some Cherry profile keycaps that don't leave behind an oily finger texture.I don't have the original wrist wrest.
>>108165573step 1: find a WoB keycap set that comes with a 6.5u spacebarthat'll take a while, don't worry about next steps until then
>>108165565That's cool or whatever, but assuming it won't be doa, is there any hidden reason to get one instead of the other? Otherwise I would just toss a coin.
>>108165609They both look like shit and sound like shit and are exclusively shilled by astroturf RGB influencers, pick your poisonI'd go for 75% over 65 just because having that extra gap to the escape key prevents accidentally opening the esc menu when you meant to hit 1, and sometimes games have something bound to tilde by default. There are just more keys within reach of the left hand if you have that extra row up there, I think that matters.
MX Blacks on Alutypos guaranteed
>>108165648Don't care for looks and sound (I'm unironically a bit deaf and touch-type anyway). But the 1-esc thing is something I hadn't thought about. Thanks a lot! Will just buy the 75 % one, worst thing that could happen is that I wasted 36.50 euros.
>>108165689Yeah 75% is an ugly layout but it's popular for a reason. And to their credit they give you F13 (I mean the condensed f-row layout, not the actual key value they assign by default) and a full column on the right so you can get the whole nav cluster in there.

Anyone have recommendations for a ~65g spring that doesn’t have the large portions of wind up at the ends? >>108179279>i was wondering if the 8bitdo was secretly awful and or there’s a better board out there. There are theoretically better boards out there but 8bitdo is perfectly cool if you have no intention of really programming your keyboard, or doing more than remapping keys. There's maybe one or two Game Boy themed keyboard cases out there and that's about it for retro vidya themed keyboards, so 8bitdo has market penetration on that niche.

>>108179279>wondering if the 8bitdo was secretly awfulNot that I'm aware of. The Keychron has two big advantages over the 8bitdo:- QMK/VIA programmability, meaning no need to download software to remap the keys (VIA), and more extensive alterations to the firmware are possible (QMK), though for most boards that's not necessary.- Assembled with hex screws, which means it's easy to disassemble. The 8bitdo is assembled with clips, which are a pain in the assOther than that the differences are all a matter of preference as far as I'm aware.
>>108179732I dislike all sets where the mod colors are inverted alpha colors

>>108182247Kind of a bonus for the 8bitdo is it's clipped, but it also doesn't really have any modification points you can't easily reach, clip-in stabs and hotswap switches. Top-mounted but it feels fine. It has a silicone pad for noise dampening, as I recall, or at least the TKL does. I can't really think of anything I'd change about it besides putting some liquid silicone in the bottom of the case for weight.

>>108187572>108 keys instead of 104 but whateverSo nothing worth a shit, got it. Unless of course there are blank windowed R4 keycaps to replicate those status LED's on those extra macro keys, that won't cost me $60 with shipping to get because having shit that's been the standards since the 80's now requires a premium because fuck you.
>>108188551Like, 108-key wouldn't be a problem if there were windowed R4 keycaps for me to repurpose the backlight for status LED's, or windowed keycaps for NumLock/CapsLock/ScrollLock, but the former seem to be unobtainium even on Ali and the latter are also unobtainium, and if they exist they won't match any WoB keycap set there is. I'd just get a Keychron V6, reprogram it, swap the keycaps and it would be fine. Ideally Keychron would have 104-key boards that don't change the status LED's to tell me whether I'm using Windows or Mac as if I'm too retarded to see what's in front of me and I would have zero issues finding the perfect board for myself.

>>108189046The Vortex Multix 104 looks good, if only it was available in black. I ordered that Ali GMK clone kit, will put it on my K70 to the extent that I can with it's 6.5u spacebar, but fuck me, whenever there's something this close to what I'd want, there has to be a catch. 104 keys and standard status LED's, but it's not available in black. I'd dig the beige if not for the fact they don't have the regular numpad division/multiply keycaps.https://aliexpress.com/item/1005005484468911.htmlIf I already invested in that WoB set, then I'll have to invest into a black keyboard, but since the market refuses to make anything but 108-key, Keychron refuses to make 104-key boards with normal status LED's, and no one offers either blank windowed R4 keycaps or Num/Caps/Scroll windowed keycaps, I'm out of options to finally ditch the K70 for even something rudimentary with Brown clones before I start splurging on different switches.

>>108189453>that they're beaten at their own game by New Model Fi don't really agree, honestly. i have an Ellipse Model F repro and it isn't as good as my cheaper Unicomp Mini M in either feel nor aesthetics Ellipses' BS do not really feel like authentic Model F capactiive buckling springs, they're much lighter and less tactile. they're almost just noisy linears. also his chassis design is laughably amateur considering their price>and Model Fs don't run into the key rollover problems of the Model Mto be honest i never really considered this a huge selling point of my Model F. it's nice, but the only place where it matters is gaming, and i am never going to game on a keyboard with hysteresis. that is a significant bigger impairment to gaming than 2kro ever will be
IIRC the only real issue with modern Unicomps compared to OG Model M's is that the molds they're using have enough mileage that the keycaps are a bit loose

OK the MK x Leopold WoB set arrived. I've put it on a board to test it out. First impressions:- Sound is just a touch lower-pitched than Keykobo ABS, and a hair less 'full', but pretty close. I think the sound is pretty good, no complaints.- Uniformity seems good but is a little hard to judge because I'm using them on a hotswap plateless board, so I can't be sure whether any inconsistency is the fault of the switch or the cap. Just eyeballing it, it looks good, nothing seems warped or wonky. None of the stabilized keys had any perceptible binding. - The fit on Cherry Browns is moderately tight, not loose and not difficult to remove.- The legends on a few keys look bad. Especially backspace and esc. Comparable to e.g. Swagkeys—typical double shot legends when you get outside of the high-end, with inconsistent character thickness etc. This is exacerbated by the choice to go smaller on the alpha legends: they are only slightly larger than the capital letters on the mod keys, which makes the mod key legends look big, and inconsistently so.- Curly bracket key legends seem inconsistent with the other alphas. They look oversized. - Kerning is far from perfect. Shif t and C trl will be familiar to anyone who has bought cheap keycaps before. A full space is an exaggeration of course—all of the issues I am pointing out are fully visible in the photos on the product page, so have a look there if you want to see what I mean.- The texture is rough and grainy, moreso than most PBT caps.- I haven't yet figured out what makes Leopold's profile different than Cherry, feels the same.- The black doesn't look as deep/dark as e.g. GMK, but that's probably because of the surface texture, not the dye. You'd have to really shine them up to compare apples-to-apples.Overall I think these are perfectly good keycaps for the price, although the mod legends are disappointing. Maybe I'll do pictures later

>>108191835V1. malicious ergodon't get me wrong, it isn't perfect. the board is super simple and lacks mounting options, lacks plate options and the plate itself is just FR4 which is a material I don't think should even be used in plates anymore and it's also little too tight. the PCB is one piece with no daughter board, all that being said the ano is 11/10

>>108192707Probably can't do better than that board for a QMK/VIA hotswap keyboard

Somehow I always end up coming back to this cheapo Daring Run Flip 6P with stock cherry browns, plateless hotswap. How fucked up is thatIt's just so bouncy to type on, there's a slight "boioing" feeling to the bottom-out of every key press, and the sound is extra clacky. I don't know how a keyboard could be any better than this.>>108193418Yeah "silent" is a catch-all for switches that have dampening of any kind, including ones that are hardly even trying to be quiet
Chosfox Voyagers feel good for tactiles but both the V1 and V2 have an odd problem where if if you press a key down too sharply on the top or bottom edge of the keycap, it'll fail to actuate the switch even though the slider is fully depressed. It's weird and it's the only switch I've ever come across that does it.
>>108192396Lookin good
>>108193425>this cheapo Daring Run Flip 6PBro, that board is awesome. I'm sad I missed out on that one.
>>108193510It's not all good. I had to do my share of modding to make the board acceptable. Among other things, that connecting piece over the numpad gap has a metallic ring if you don't dampen it with something. I put two layers of hockey tape on the underside and that fixed it.For what I paid I guess I can't complain. And I like the layout.
>>108193418>ttc frozen silent v2cost 3.5 times as much as the outemus, might try them first or maybe the HUANO Sakura as they are just a bit more expensive
>>108192188It's my first time trying a mechanical keyboard, and I'm basically beta testing this model due to lack of reviews (price seemed too good to pass, at least from what I searched and considering my lack of experience), but I decided to go for it anyway since this brand seems decently reputable.I thought I'd easily get used to TKL, coming from a full keyboard, but I keep reaching for the numpad as if it was a fucking phantom limb, so it's going to take some practice.Since I couldn't find information at all I imagined I'd be stuck with rainbow pattern forever, but it was nice finding out I can set pretty much any single color, dozens of patterns too (most locked to rainbow though).I'm really enjoying the typing experience so far, it isn't very loud and the sound is kind of nice. Some people made it seem like Kailh Box Red would be bad for a first timer because the clicks are too smooth or something (and I can see it), but I'm not having any issues with it during these first hours (maybe I just have decent "control" over my typing?), naturally I have no experience with tactile switches so I can't feel if I'm missing out or something. For some reason I thought the light would pass through the letters on the caps, but they don't, kind of a bummer. I don't really need to see them in a dark room, it just would look nicer in my opinion.Other than that I think there isn't much to talk about, I still need to try it a little more extensively anyway.>tl;dr I don't know if I made a good choice, but I'm liking it.
I have Aula F75 and Lemokey P1 Pro. Wtf is the difference since my fingers rest on the edge of the Lemokey's keycaps while on the Aula its more center
>>108193654>it just would look nicer in my opinion. It's literally impossible for light to pass through the center of a Cherry MX keycap, because the center is where it connects to the switch stem. Light can only pass through at the top or bottom, depending on the orientation of the switch.
>>108193591they're 3.5 times as good, do some research before you buy or you might end up with a bunch of shit switches you'll never use
>>108193683There shouldn't be a difference, the keycap profiles look the same to me.
>>108193724yeah, unless its like milky yellows or something everyone knows is good, you usually get what you pay for
>>108193725I have the ISO version. This is the one I have.....
>>108193734Oh I was looking at ANSI. That looks to be Keychron's OSA keycaps. Kinda weird that your fingers aren't "settling into them" like with Cherry keycaps since they're dished more deeply than Cherry.
>>108169394Overall a good idea, but some people say the touchpads on the go60 aren't great. This is somewhat relative I guess, because it's pretty expensive so people expect very high quality.I wanted to do a build with trackpoints but now I have configured hotkeys for almost everything, even wrote my own Gnome shell extension and I rarely even use the mouse anymore.
>>108193724honestly the effectivity of research into switch quality is pretty limited. for each chinesium switch (they're all chinesium) I can find good and bad reviews, and even here opinions differ greatly. but maybe I should just order a small tester kit or idk 5 switches and get the cheap ones as well. worst case I got 90 switches I don't like, but in my cunt (Germanistan) the used market is extremely active and selling pink switches to retards and trannies for a profit probably won't be that difficult lmao
>>108179004At 120wpm you are so fast that probably noone can teach you any theory that you don't already know. The people who are faster most likely do what you do, they have just practiced for longer.
>>108193739Ye my bad I was unclear. I think it's because the Cherry keycaps are more wide, the OSA keycaps feel smaller at least to me
>>108193763I personally don't like OSA very much, especially odd because I already do like sculpted keycaps but I find OSA isn't sculpted *enough* for my tastes. Try MDA, SA or Keychron's own KSA sometime.
>>108193706I see, thanks for the insight.
>>108193743Test it yourself lmaoChinesium switches are fantastic>I can find good and bad reviewsTEST IT
>>108193743People seem to agree, generally, that the TTC Frozen Silent V2 is, in fact, very quiet. Whether they think that's good depends on the person. I think it's bad. I prefer Lichicx, which isn't really silent at all.
>>108194252i prefer blue stars which also aren't really silent either
>>108194259There's this idea in the air that, since they're called "silent switches", they should be judged by their success or failure to be dead silent, and the best silent switches must be the most silent. There are clearly a lot of people who would like most of the 'feedback'—both sound and feel—of a regular switch, but a little quieter. So a manufacturer will make a switch that meets this demand and then some reviewer gives it a "4/10 for sound" because "it's not that silent"
>>108152098The kerning on Lock looks wicked bad on KKB. That's disappointing
>>108194259Those seem neat. The sound is closer to POM-on-nylon than you'd expect from a silent. Lichicx sounds more rubbery.I'm tempted to order some to try but I really need to stop losing cash to this dumb hobby for a while
