I wonder how hard it is to make a quality phone for yourself. As in like 1, not mass produced. Seems daunting and expensive.
>>
>>108171689
didn't this only fail because multiple different companies were paying for its development and couldn't agree on certain standards, and then because they couldn't agree it couldn't continue development?
>>
>>108171717
there's actually a lot of people online that do that, I saw a video of a high school kid make his own with some parts he bought online
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy_9w_c2ub0
and there's the entire cyberdeck scene which is pretty much the same thing if you don't care about specifically cell service which is more or less useless nowadays anyway

it's as close as you can get, really, though. Not much different from just buying a sbc and screen/etc and 3d printing a case for it.

uconsole owner for the last few weeks after a year of waiting.
Good for basic stuff, runs on flat tops, and as the os is on an sd card you can really fuck around and fly as close to the sun as you want.
It's just neat. It's way more fun doing stuff on some low spec brick I assembled than any of the other fancy over-engineered gadgets I have.

No, it failed because the interconnects had to be fixed, that limits everything in the design because you can only have so many IO interconnects per module. Trivial problem to solve however if you're not an NPC.

the catch is that it wont run your banking app or anything to do with payment like uber, parking or a government tax app. while i lament the state of android, even on graphene i barely use my phone outside for anything other than music or calls. I go out to do other stuff than computing and relying on a halfassed computer while going out will only result in fully being able to appreciate either one.

Oh for fuck's sake didn't Librem 5 teach people anything?
>If you're going to make a Linux phone it needs...
>Recent, open hardware that is high performance for the value
>The ability to actually do phone things on it that are not contingent on the handful of built in programs - it needs to be able to run Android apps at very least, and preferably the 'important' ones like banking.
Its all well and good to just be a handheld linux toy and that's fine, there are plenty of those over the years but if you want to make something people could carry as a daily driver, you need to be able to do 'phone things' which means both hardware support AND the ability to run Android apps at a high rate of success. Until you can do that, don't even try to sell it as anything but a Linux pocket retro fuckery computer or whatever the hell, but not a 'phone' - you're just going to waste time.
>>
>>108172915
oh
nevermind
>>
>>108191304
>it needs to be able to run Android apps at very least, and preferably the 'important' ones like banking.
This is the phone equivalent of the "anti-cheat" bitching gammers do. Those apps will never run because the authors *intentionally* make them incompatible with open platforms.

If you actually want to get away from that kind of thing you'll figure out how to do banking without Android.
>>
>>108191323
Many of the 'anticheats' are now running on Linux for gaming if the devs like do one "press the make it work on Linux button" - there was a whole shitshow about how Tim Sweeney whined about Gaben being mean pointing this out about EasyAntiCheat to stop Tim from being a whiny bitch.

Anyway, if it was only the most obtuse and obnoxious security level fuck you apps that didn't work, I would be fine with that. However its not like they're able to run seamlessly with all the Android apps (even FOSS stuff like Fdroid etc) who aren't as obnoxious as some of the banking ones. If they said they had some sort of virtualizer or emulator or whatever that made sure that you could run most Android apps that would be one thing, but they don't have that, they're going to make their own speshul sauce "linux phone" UI shit and say that you should be happy with that just like every other project that makes one of these, which for the most part end up poorly supported a year or two down the line - especially those that claimed they were super haxor Linux devices or the only phone you needed or whatever

i'm even less convinced of you being an actual maid than I am of you being a dragon. Go programming on a desk, a table or even a couch or go cleaning. Your house is a mess everywhere but the most surface level surfaces and all your programs are bound to resemble the absolute scatterbrain you are. If you really do larp as a maid irl (i doubt it) give in to the character fully and leave the programming to another character or alter ego to play at other times. Only focus and discipline can bring you the calm of mind you seek from whatever combined fetish and autistic focus you've thrown yourself into.
>>
>>108171651
I want one, but I'm confused by the sheer amount of models + I don't want to wait till September.
>>
A pocket portable GNU Linux (terminal and all) with physical qwerty keyboard does make my dick hard indeed. Would. But using it as a phone? The problem is I need to use normie cancer like WhatsApp and banking apps so I would have a separate phone for that, but still, would carry both. A proper GNU Linux terminal (not cucked phone environments or SSH) you can use while standing up with a *physical keyboard* is something I really want.

But between India and Kickstarter, it's very iffy for this to succeed. If there already something like this out there (without going all the way to those old Nokias)?

>>108183022
Weight is the least of my concerns. Fitting in a pocket is the biggest requirement, because otherwise just use a laptop.
>>
>>108171651
