Considering that most Linux users are homosexual, transsexual, pedo or Indian, it's really not surprising that their instinct is to ram things into holes they don't belong in.
>>
What are we moaning about?
Most Windows users begrudgingly use it. They do it because "my hardware thing works on it" or "this corporation does not support anything that isn't windows or macOS so I'm stuck in here". The argument for many not to switch to Linux is not "Windows is great" it is "I am locked down to this vendor". Windows has become a general nuisance for the longest time, hence why people are even considering alternatives now.
Let's not even talk about Apple, I mean they're the masters of locking you in and forcing you to stay in this very narrow cuckbox, if you even try to install applications in there without going through their app store they will mutilate your ass. Hell they will change whole fucking CPU architectures and you BETTER adapt or else.
This fat fuck with 32 yachts isn't forcing you to do anything. Manufacturers aren't gonna ditch Microsoft tomorrow and ask you to switch to Linux instead, you don't have to worry your pretty little flamboyant brown fuckboy ass. That overpriced Steam Machine is still going to work fine with Windows because AMD is not just about to ditch it and most of it is essentially AMD hardware (and most of the market is Windows users still, it's not like Valve just wants to lose that either). You can keep fancily using your OS that requires logging in with an online account if you don't unplug your internet connection and your daddy makes it so that a command you shouldn't have to use stops working overnight. You can keep sucking that dick voluntarily.
>>
>>108178064
The more technically apt you are, the more you appreciate Windows. Most people are tards and want an appliance, yet can't stomach the cost of a Mac.
So yeah, this wall of text does hold - but not for the reason the poster thinks.

>>

video games worked fine on my PC long before Steam or even the internet.
>>
Linux isn't for everyone. We need to gatekeep more.

If you can't figure out basic shit from wikis, manpages, ChatGPT and a little perseverance then you may simply lack the IQ required to use Linux effectively. Freedom requires making choices and those choices require intelligence. You'll be happier if somebody else makes those choices for you.

Instead of becoming frustrated and wasting your time as well as ours you should instead work a few extra shifts at your McJob and buy a Macbook Air instead.
>>
>>108178636
He worked for Microsoft on DirectX, idiot. That's the core of Windows gaming. Also, PC gaming was on the verge of dying before Steam became a big thing because brick and mortar stores didn't want to carry much games for such an unpopular platform. So he helped with that too.
>>
>>108178668
Nobody is impressed by people pirating LTSC IOT versions of Windows either, yet people brag about that all the time.
>>
>>108178666
>PC gaming was on the verge of dying
That's a lie.
>brick and mortar stores didn't want to carry much games
All the popular ones were readily available. The rest could be easily ordered.
The only thing I am willing to give Steam is that it made patching easier and gave indies a chance to sell without going through publishers (which can be now done through better platforms). That's it. Everything else was a net loss for gaming industry and community.
>>
>>108174078
hes just like me!
>>
>>108178693
Not the person you're replying to, but I remember a very different situation. Finding PC games in stores was balls hard, and even walmart had like maybe 10 games that weren't shit before steam took off.
>>
>>108178693
Yeah I'm sure I want to live in a world where triple A slop is all I get to buy. Also not all of them, depended on store and region. PC games selection was ALWAYS much smaller than the consoles. Always. Without exception. There's a reason why people like Timmy from Epic said that consoles are the future. That's exactly what it looked like in the mid 2000s.
>>
>>108178718
How would you know?
You were only 5 in the mid 2000s.
>>
>>108178723
I'm not literally you.
>>
>>108178714
>even walmart
I wouldn't know. Were I live, we had specialized stores selling PCs and games.
>>
>>108178727
Yeah I'm sure every village under the sun had one of those specialist PC game stores. Thanks, genius.
>>
>>108178725
You made it painfully obvious that you never actually experienced PC gaming before Steam, so you're either underage or were entirely focused on console gaming.
>>
>>108178733
I come from a small rural town, we had stores selling PC games.
>>
>>108178736
And how did I make it obvious? Did the games I played in the 90s give it away? I had early access to Steam. The only consoles I've ever owned were the PSP and PS3.
>>
>>108178033
Haha believing internet memes is peak retardation
>>
>>108178747
By thinking PC gaming was worse before (the time of all time great classics like Deus Ex and JK2) Steam than after (lazy 360 ports).
>>
>>108178787
I never said anything about PC gaming being worse vs consoles or now you absolute illiterate cretin, I said it was dying. The reason for that was because getting the games in the first place was an amazing experience with piracy and shit tier without piracy. PC gaming was absolutely amazing before Steam when you pirated everything, you didn't even have to leave your home to play all the games nor did you need to have the shitty CD in your drive - but that also meant that PC games became more and more sparse in brick and mortar stores because they were very unpopular compared to console games. Consoles were 100% the future, there was no money in PC gaming.

Also I don't give a fuck about your taste in video games, but since you're sharing. I liked LHX and Return Fire Played the shit out of those.
>>
>>108178787
Because he doesn't subscribe to nostalgia like you?
If you want to play games now, it's objectively better than it was in the 90s and much better than it would have been had it been GFWL or some other mediocre garbage that succeeded instead of steam
Physical distribution was already enshittified by securom and it only would've gotten worse
>>
>>108174078

Truth. Windows was, is and will always be what Linux claims to be but will never become. It’s just a fact. Get over it Linus, you make an OS for webserver backend. That’s good enough.

I've been running linux since 2015 or so and it's my pleasure to inform you that it's actually gotten many orders of magnitude better. The debian-likes are mostly "just werks" for most stuff. The slackware-likes are rock solid and Arch is fun (but it can be finnicky). Arch being supported by valve makes Steam a first class citizen on it and it works.
