What reason do you have to hate mobile-first web design other than being old?
>>108176097Because I hate women who use mobile in portrait mode and killed the slick and slide keyboard older smartphones had.
You fit more stuff on a large display. Then when the time comes, you collapse things behind menus or tooltips etc. to compress it to the small display. You have to do this, to make it fit. You fit less stuff on a small display, so everything starts in a menu. You don't have to un-abstract things from behind the menus, it's not necessary to make it work, so you just don't. Thus you end up with a sparse awkward desktop layout.
>>108176132Twitter works just fine on desktop though.
>>108176097We had "mobile-first web design" almost 30 years ago with WAP. The whole point of the iPhone was to be able to use a full website. Then, after all the newfags flooded the webdev industry, they decided that cripping the entire internet was the way to go.
>>108176163Sparse, awkward layout
mobile websites are shit and i set my phone to desktop view for most sites
>>108176255It is a better layout than 4chan. Having the important content centered is better than having everything aligned to the left.
Excessive vertical scrolling with page-sized ads mixed in every 2-3 paragraphs.
ftfy
it's associated with phones and phones suck
because it sucks, I shouldnt have to use youtube on 67% zoom like its designed for a fucking tv
>>108176097it sucksusing the internet on a phone sucksusing a phone to do anything sucks.
>>108176097I don't like having to scroll
Renember when webshits cared about the fold and keeping shit above the fold and better to paginate than to lose content below the fold and see you below the fold and bla bla bla the our highschool journalism teacher taught us the rules of publishing on the web and the fold the fold the foldfucking webshitsI wish they'd go back to obsessing over the fold
>>108176097If you're not retarded you can design pages without being mobile-first or desktop-first.
>>1081763444chan is also ass, but it wasn't being used as an example of good design.
>>108176432Every fucking time.
>>108176432if only it worked like you say
>>108176097Everything you needed used to be clearly labeled and accessible with one click from the main page.
>>108176097Remember when websites scaled to your browser resolution? That shit was awesome. I'm exaggerating with this screenshot, I don't actually browse the internet in fullscreen 4k, that would be retarded. But videos displaying in 700p (not even a standard resolution like 720????) unless you want to go fullscreen just sucks. Man what the fuck happened to usability? X is somehow even worse than R*ddit, but at least that was sort of geared toward phones in the first place.
