to keep enabling and even supporting these jobless bastards in their incel idea of deserving money for making something without cost is egregious, no program i use should ever ask me for donations no matter if it was free or not, the freecucks and opencucks should know better than to keep doing this now that we got the power of claude code to just prompt replacements to their entitled beggardware!
>>108178235Sorry you lose your credibility in making social commentary on what developers should and shouldn't do when you use a pink color scheme.
I'm practically starving as an OSS developer and I still agree.I don't know how we solve the funding problem but begging and donations don't seem ideal.
>>108178235It's somewhat troubling that begging for money has become normal. It's not uncommon uncommon to test a small foss tool like Bottles (which is vibecoded python shit frontend for wine/proton) and getting greeted by "please gib money patreon" with permanent "donate" icon.Free software should be free, if they want to make it something else they should stop distributing it as foss then. Many such cases.

>>108178259It's been getting worse.
>free and open source should not beg for donationsTrue. It should be publicly funded with tax money.
>>108178235so no_fun and eastereggs are redundant? sloppy job.
>>108178259>It's somewhat troubling that begging for money has become normal. It's not uncommon uncommon to test a small foss tool like Bottles (which is vibecoded python shit frontend for wine/proton) and getting greeted by "please gib money patreon" with permanent "donate" icon. This is nothing new; you're describing the shareware model that was prevalent all throughout the 90s. Software that was "free" but would lock minor features or whine endlessly until you finally broke down and paid the dev/installed a keygen crack. Lots of devs even provided source code when they were under no obligation.Difference was that back then we were under no pretenses whether the product was commercial or not; no shit people had to eat, it's not some serious moral crime for some developer to ask for a few bucks if you found a tool useful. But now that the whole "Free Software" narrative spun out of control, every author feels massive social pressure to license every small tool under some restrictive "libre" license and pretend they're doing it from the good of their heart when they really just want to make a few bucks. In a saner world we'd just go back to distributing FOSS beggarware as shareware, but that won't happen anytime soon because so many young devs end up getting fucked by FSF licensing shenanigans whether or not they intend to FOSS their work. Either you want to make money but can't figure out how to provide commercialized versions of their mistakenly GPL'd code because that lawyerware license is deliberately designed to make things as confusing as possible if you aren't IBM or Microsoft with an army of Talmudic warriors ready to exploit every loophole. Or you actually want to donate your software to the public domain but end up being trapped because you happen to rely on one small bit of sharealike code upstream, totally damning its widespread utilization until its forked by professional GNU (i.e., Amazon, Oracle, etc.)-approved maintainers who quickly boot you.
>>108178259foss doesn't necessitate free work. although there are better ways to finance development than begging, for example enterprise support like blender.

True, there should be a shop with some fun merch like coffee mugs or similar to support, but nothing in your face begging.Open source projects are prestige and hobby’s.
>>108178235>should know better than to keep doing this now that we got the power of claude code to just prompt replacements to their entitled beggardware!Lol, just vibecode replacements then instead of complaining.I beleive in you, OP.

I've stopped using some foss for that shit
