It's another layer on top of Cloudflare, they do IP profiling and such. Basically you are being fingerprinted even harder than before. I don't know more than this. Seems sketchy because Cloudflare was supposed to be the Heavy Duty protection anyway.

Some preplexity answers:
>spur.us is the main site of Spur, a company that sells IP reputation and “are you on a VPN/proxy/resi‑proxy?” style detection to websites.
>mcl.spur.us (and related domains) are used as part of a small challenge/network check that runs in your browser to help sites see whether you’re behind a VPN/proxy or other anonymization.
>mcl.io appears to be a convenience/short domain used in the same ecosystem, essentially for the same “network check / challenge” purpose (so it will look “strange” if you just open it, but it’s not random malware).

The snippet you are supposed to send to support is base64 encoded JSON.
That JSON includes a bunch of indicators, ranging from individual features your browser supports, your IP connectivity, your DNS connectivity, stuff on WebGL that didn't run since I used tor, whether you are likely in incognito mode, your clock, potentially what extensions you use, whether you are using adblock, and many other things.
Good fucking lord. Even if this is for """"""debugging"""""" it is a horrifying amount of information

Use one of the many fingerprint testing sites. I tested it in private browser on Firefox PC, and Safari with a fresh window & new network. Simply switching networks or starting a new session does not change your unique fingerprint.

I mean it’s ancient VPN detection software but damn is it evolving, Cloudflare and others are pushing more invasive tracking fingerprint methods, while good for bot prevention it’s a nightmare for privacy. Cloudflare as a company is a big Jew factory, I’ll spare you my opinions on them.

Consumers are getting too comfortable with this overreach, Call Of Duty wanted me to run anti cheat software on my PC for Warzone. Fuck that. And the death of local accounts is just a push to cloud computing aka everything from browser history, cache and your photos/files go to glowie servers. You will do nothing, own nothing and be happy.
>>
I bought 4chan pass, you should buy yours too. Less trouble.
>>
>>108182437
it's up to firefox and co to limit fingerprinting, you can't hide in crowds with tweaks on your side.
>>
>>108182437

Based. Residential proxies are a scourge on this site, not only are retards using “free” proxies like Tuxler, they are exchanging traffic…so if someone does something illegal while using your proxy address it’s going to be your door they knock on, not to mention getting IP blacklisted by most big online service providers. Too many fucktards flying fake Israel flags for rage bait, this is amazing, if your IP changes countries tied to your device fingerprint you get blocked from posting, way overdo thank you cloud flare, Google, and these new tech start ups!

Since they fingerprint everything including GPU canvas, can I somehow send this comic down the wire to Spur.us servers? Anecdote, new Call of Duty games take random screenshots of user's game to see if they detect an overlay that way. It is possible to hook these calls and replace them with your own data. Some people have done this and replaced their screenshots with pictures of porn.

I think the screenshot and anti cheat software is a smart thing to combat those ruining the online experience for the rest of us. There should be periodic screenshots of the screen in general because sometimes these sickos will switch between Call Of Duty and then minus out to do illegal stuff on apps like TOR.

Cloud account computing is better because it can detect known abuse material and new original content stuff like with Googles AI detection on their browser, photos & any android cloud services. If you hate Epstein then you’d want this rolled out

That's probably a bad idea.
>>
i would rather have logins than involving third-parties who specialize in data collection. these third-parties always end up selling their data.
>>
So if I disable UBlock, reload, it gets my fingerprint and then gives me the Cloudflare captcha, then I can turn UBO back on (but I guess the damage is already done so that doesn't change anything)

Basically this site is making it where blocking third party cookies and scripts breaks the site for normal users. Worse: this won't affect the bot spammers at all and just marks to the largest aggregator of user data that you browse the loli anime site.
>>
>>108182821

>Doubt. The spur and mcl shit is loaded when requesting the captcha, not when passing the cloudflare turnstile.

So the captcha verification sets an internal variable that user XY with 4chan_pass cookie requested a captcha, said cookie also containing several encrypted IDs, which they could send quietly to spur/mcl to identify you. Or the spur/mcl thing also reads whatever cookies you have set.

That's just standard browser fingerprinting. It's not a "horrifying" amount of information. All it can do is identify that a certain user is a certain user across IPs. For a site like 4chan that's completely normal and kind of required for any level of moderation. I'm surprised it took this long to implement, I've been doing similar shit for almost a decade (ran a webshop that had to detect what phone you use so it could offer you accessories for your device).

Brave won't do jack shit when it has 0.01% market share, since being a Brave user will be how you are identified. The absence of data you share is a fingerprint on its own. If 9999 in 10000 users all used Brave anti-fingerprinting, sure, it would matter. But as long as its otherwise, it won't do nothing.

>>108182799
You forgot the part where the CP spam and the pedophile network is ran by the same user who is trying to kill the site because it offended him by existing.

also, fingerprinting actually does help locking out CP spam. I know from experience.

I'm going to revise and say that it appears somebody screwed up implementation on this site. Go to their debug site with all the regular sites set to noop https://www.spurdebug.com/ and it appears to work fine on their side. They are doing something that does not tick off UBlock's third party domain filter. I pass every check there except for their DNS sniffer (Everyone should be using DoH at this point)

I'm not doing console inspection and troubleshoot for 4chan for free, so fix the site.

The problem is: This isn't meant to stop the kind of spam that is covering this site. This is purely meant to stop DDOS bots. So a few userscripts will bypass it easily, and since this happens before the turnstyle: RapeApe doesn't see this fingerprint at all. It's useless for his moderation.

>and it's not light weight
The fingerprinting part is very light weight. There are certain fingerprint checks which are slower than not (like testing fonts), but as far as I can tell it's not running any of those. Based on the output, anyway. It does run a math performance test which is probably about the heaviest thing in there. The rest of those are mostly 0.001 sec lookups. It's also not even capturing that much info.

What makes the spur thing actually slow is that it runs 348579 network checks as well and those take time to complete, especially since it runs them one by one. At least on spurdebug. In a real site you could run most of them at the same time asynchronously. But adding a network speed test will obviously make it take a while to run.

I didn't check, I only read the output json, and there's like a dozen network checks there. DNS, ip4, ip6, a speed test, tests how fast you can access several CDNs (apple hotspot, jsdelivr, google dns), just from memory. No clue what it is useful for, but I imagine it could be used to profile your network connection, which could potentially be used to detect VPNs if you have a large enough data set.

Would love to see what kind of database they have with all this data, it makes my aspergers tingle like a Spidey's spider-sense when fighting the sinister six.

That one was confirmed by the source code to show up by calling rand(0,1) if 4chan doesn't like your browser profile, ie. if you use firefox and don't have a high enough captcha score it'll randomly show up with a 50% chance.

It still happens to me occasionally on Firefox, I then have to post from Chrome, after that Firefox works again. Once you pass enough captchas (which takes a fucking week) it will no longer happen.
I think they know it's broken but they just keep it in there because 4chan has so many users that if the error makes 1 in a million users buy a pass, they already made hundreds if not thousands of dollars on it.

>It may be partially fake, but not entirely.

It is fake. The source code for 4chan was leaked, you can look up the error. If you are legitimately range banned, you get a completely different message. The abuse message is tied to the bot score check and if your score is too low the site literally rolls the dice. It also gets generated after you post, that's why sometimes you get it 100% of the time, but if you then post on another browser, you roll another check.

There's also a dozen or so very specific spam checks for certain board + thread combinations, where you can only post if you have a high enough verified score + have posted enough posts on the site + have a low enough threat score.

4chan saves your user profile via cookies and the more you post successfully, the higher your profiles score is, and the easier the captchas get. >>108183565

This part never seems to happen to me but I clear cookies basically once a day so that's probably why.
>>
>>108183631
if i am on my mobile network (Mint mobile which i believe runs on T-mobile) its basically 50/50 if i get the 'blocked by abuse'.
this is a college town so i assume its retards posting CP or sumthin.

They very obviously do. They're so spiteful, I have no idea why they are even still on this website.

Last time I had to clear cookies it too me an entire fucking week to move away from the "select 2 stars with 5 points" utter fucking garbage, to just three instances of "select an image not like the others".
>>
>right when that Anon was working on getting Clover to work again
It's so fucking over.
>>
>>108183645
oh I thought this was like when people were posting
>there were only 30 IPs on /pw/ in november
Which if you know about /pw/ would be like 3 guys because there are a ton of ban evading schizos. The whole board is like a series of schizos ban evading so they can troll the other schizo who is ban evading because they don't like each other and are trying to get the other fag to leave the site

killed his bots and forced them to depend posters to age sessions
>>
>>108183650
you need to have your cookies up close to a week depending on your browser
>>108183651
there's a good chance your phone hardware/browser choice is contributing to it. again the actual range ban gives you a different message

I remember when they did this with the pigguip stuff years ago.

Funniest way to fuck with him would be to buy residential proxies yourself and burn as many of his sessions as possible, probably.
>>
>>108183688
well i assume its because my IP addy is constantly changing on mobile. its one of them newfangled IPs that looks crazy and is super long.
sometimes ill just get an ip addy that was permabanned for CP like a year ago or whatevs and have to wait for it to refresh.
easier to not use mobile. i barely use the site outside of my house wifi network because its so pervasive.

There -is- an auto range ban that checks for IPs with the same first two octets as you, eg. 12.34.xx.xx. And it's automatically ran on every post and will give you an auto ban depending on custom filters in the database.
like for ex. they could have a filter for a certain string or regex, and if your post matches those, you'll get logged in the event log. Then on your next post, if there's anything in the event log AND you don't have x posts or have not posted in y minutes, you get blocked. Then having a normal post (in another browser) clears it.

But there are also other checks that actually will roll randomly on whether you should be blocked or not. Or even show a fake post that doesn't get written in the database.

Next time you get the message, try using a different browser, see if it'll get through.

But these are not actual range bans. If you were range banned, it would outright say you are range banned. The "blocked due to abuse" is automated, and based on banned strings increasing the chance for it to happen.

In other words, if you say a bad word you'll get a boo boo.
