>>108182811The only way we're getting a real alternative to Windows is if the EU, Russia, and China decides to invest heavily into one AND bans Windows for use in a lot of if not most cases. The issue isn't the OS itself but software compatibility. The only way you motivate software companies to put as much effort into compatibility as they do into Windows is by having a large base of users. The only way you get a large base at this point is by outright forcing people to use it instead of Windows, normalfags will not move over otherwise and companies who are allergic to change, risk, and expenses absolutely won't unless forced.

EU alone could flip the situation for the whole world. there is a need for more Windows fuck-ups on consumer machines for that to happen, tho. You can tell it was designed tastefully and care was put in.Most linux distros just slap on some mismatched packages, themes with a shitty unthemed calamares installer and call it a day. Yes it works but its not polished and doesnt feel like a cohesive product that was created. Its the frankenstein effect of linux.>>108183548Its already losing quite frankly. windows marketshare went from 90%+ in 2016 to 65% within 10 years, within another 5 years since linux has accelerated in the field of gaming, user friendliness and easy of install for most people I expect windows to lose at least another 10-15% in the next 5 years
