Find image on Google Images for 4chan post
Try to upload image, and met with this error: "Upload failed".
What is causing this? The image used is a jpg, it's not webp or anything 'new' like that. I have to keep opening it in GIMP and then overwriting it just so I can upload it onto 4chan.
*Why* does the upload fail. Does anyone know?

It can be from a corrupted format to it having an embed or a filtered md5/filename.

>*Why* does the upload fail. Does anyone know?
Because it's an unsupported file with the wrong extension, in other words a jpg saved as a WebPlacebo. A file extension doesn't actually do anything but determine how a file is opened or otherwise handled by the OS.

it's likely not actually a jpg until you overwrite in gimp and convert it to one. it's probably a webp with a .jpg filename.

about half of reddit pics fail to upload. I have to edit them before posting them so that they will upload.
4chan is so shit, if you can't read image files, why make posting images mandatory?

The year is 2026 and as FUCKING STUPID as it sounds, 4chan not only lacks support for (arguably outdated) WebP images, but jpegli images as well.

There's a 50% chance it's also a jpegli image. Jpegli was literally created because everyone was shitting and pissing their pants about Webp....

AND 4CHAN DOESN'T FUCKING SUPPORT IT! FUUUUUUCK this fucking shit as shit cocksucker motherfucking site.

This and you can easily check by opening the file in a hex editor.
If it's a real jpeg it will start with either "FF D8 FF E0" or "FF D8 FF E1"
If you don't have a hex editor you can use a regular text editor and compare the first 3 or 4 characters to any real jpeg.

4chan is just very disingenuous about its policy in general

It's been a long time since 4chan's choked on a super progressive jpegli encoded jpg for me.
Pic related if you don't believe me.

Open it in Irfanview. It will probably tell you it's a misnamed webp and offer to rename it for you.
