The same thing that GPS did to people's sense of direction and mental mapping. They've lost it. Completely. Most people now would get totally lost if they had go somewhere without GPS

when people offload a cognitive skill to something they lose that skill. It's been demonstrated across many tasks. AI is going to be different. It won't be one specialised task. It'll be everything

People are going to become stupid as shit
>>
Before GPS, we had something called "maps".

if this were true then we would have also experienced the same thing when stackoverflow and google came out, yet it has been the opposite and that's what allowed programming to flourish.

As is common for new tools, it enables smart people to do more, and dumb people to think less.

>Want to learn something

>Want to learn something extremely niche you don't know anything about (and non political ofc)

Why do people think this?
>Ask AI

Cool. What are you going to do about it? Piss and shit yourself?

AI will enhance humanity beyond the need for cognition. AI is the future. AI has already catapulted my productivity 1000x. I am leaps and bounds ahead of everyone I know by every meaningful metric. AI is incredible and Homo AI is going to do to Homo sapiens what Homo sapiens did to Homo neanderthalensis. AI is the future. Face it.

>you will never be a teenager with an Amiga, a copy of devpac assembler and some reference manuals ever again.
Feels bad man. broke and expanded my mind a few times learning how to program without spoonfed jeet tutorials, candy coloured syntax highlighting or stackoverflow/AI tools.

replace want to learn with
>have an ai do it for me
most people aren't going t use ai for learning. they're going to use ai to get their work done for me

Really? I remember playing driver on GBC which required me to look at the pause map because no minimap, and horrible arrow, and also driver on PSX with great minimap. All in all, I can use GPS or look in static map. I usually look the route on map first, overall, where the GPS is telling me to go, if it's good, then I go my way (which may or may not be what it suggested) but keep it there in case there's some blockage or something and I need to readjust. Idk, I thought most people who grew with vidya were good enough at handling maps.

Autismchads are not "most people"

Your example proves itself. This person's "find a starting point for learning an extremely niche subject" ability has already atrophied, if they must ask AI to do it for them.

Most people do not have a thought. Most people are animals that just respond to stimuli

Depends on when they grew up. When's the last time a game actually had players look at a map and figure out how to get somewhere, instead of populating POI markers across their HUD?
>>
>>108184871
I think the real problem is not lack of spacial navigation, but rather losing the ability to remember locations properly. I bet you would get lost much closer to your home then your grandparents would.

Same with maps.

Zoomers with Minecraft probably mog other zoomers in map direction because Minecraft I game map is absolute unusable dogshit and you need to retrace your steps in caves constantly, not just to get back but to get to the unemployed regions.

I don’t believe that’s a real thing. Once I’ve navigated to a place like twice I remember the road and never forget it.
>>
>>108183923
We also had thinking when we didn't have a map at hand or couldn't be bothered to pull over and unfold it all over the place. It's often possible to figure out where you are and what way to go to get where you're trying to go without a map.
>>
>>108185644
It's more about figure out how to get someplace you haven't been than repeating a known route. You can use a map, ask someone directions and hold them in your head, or figure it out by what way something is and roads you know the way they go.

>AI will enhance humanity beyond the need for cognition
Humans are cognition.
Without it we are worth the same as fruit flies. We would become worthless and god help us if AI continues to improve and comes to that conclusion because of people like you.
>>
>>108184317
>Homo AI is going to do to Homo sapiens what Homo sapiens did to Homo neanderthalensis.
This is actually coherent, because neanderthalensis didn't have NOVA1 which means it couldn't sustain self-deception against material conditions and thus didn't believe in culture as superior.

>>108183875
I could never code before at all, so if I vibecode, what am I losing?
>>
>>108183923
Using maps still required to use a lot of cognitive abilities to keep track
>>
>>108184276
OP means if you use AI a lot to perform tasks that you previously did yourself. This is very much the case with me, I no longer write formal documents or even emails and just get an LLM to do it
>>
>>108188125
Basically the same for me, I'm a schizo autist so I don't know how to communicate with normalfags
>>
>>108184276
If you're retarded enough to ask AI about anything niche your brain atrophied long ago.
>>
>>108183875
I thought most people were shit with directions because they are just stupid, because some friends have always been bad with directions even before phones with GPS.
>>

>The same thing that GPS did to people's sense of direction and mental mapping.
you must be retarded if you think that if im going to Paris i'm gonna spend 3 months studying the map of Paris and which train and cab and bus goes where and which spot to visit.
