literally just go to an employment agency. you will have a job in a week if you can pass a drug test or handle fake piss. they hire nonviolent felons even. yes they will take 20% of your paycheck for the 90 days but that's the price you pay for not going through job application humiliation.

The job was to take two textbooks, and a Red Bull, and put them together in bag. That was it. You stand there in one place, doing that one repetitive task for 12 hours. I walked out immediately

I ran into a laptop-refurbishing racket run out of the back of a UPS-owned, giant but otherwise completely empty warehouse. the cubans and 2 white dudes were in the "tech room" replacing screens and chassis, while the mass of high turnover recent africans were in the main area (they all had to stand) running some arch-based (lol) live usb tester on the laptops and pass/failing them. the ones who are there longer than 3 months get to be supervisors on the floor. there was also a section for painting/detailing passed laptops, which I was hired to but didn't see any of because I somehow wandered into the "tech room" instead (lol oops), so my supervisor was a toothless white guy instead of an african guy whose only knowledge of this country is the back of this warehouse he was tricked into coming to. I actually kind of respect the former, he had like a "prisoner laborer turned prison-labor-supervisor in recognition of his hardness and willing complicity" thing going on. the cubans were cool and I thought I might feel ok there, regardless the UPS supervisor of the whole building talked to the temp agency girls and got rid of me together. didn't even bother firing me just straight up said fuck off via ghosting. I mean I saw it coming but yeah things like this are scams that are not "for" you. I think prior to the immigrants stuff like this was done by teens and women. come to think of it these laptops were literally for the program where every kid in the schools gets a designated laptop. so this "job" would be a perfect fucking fit for high school seniors or 19-22yo that just barely graduated high school. but no, we cant have nice things.
