Why do my ears ache or feel fatigued after I use my laptop speakers or $10 headphones? It's really annoying.

What did you expect for $10.

Ask your doctor

Why not buy $100 headphones?
Or a nice pair of speakers for even less?

I'll use this thread instead of making another one.
I want to buy a new set of headphones to use with my pc: which would you suggest, from your personal experience? Budget is not a problem. I mostly want audio quality and lifespan (at least 4-5 years, ideally more); integrated microphone is a plus, appreciated but not essential

I want to buy good speakers or headphones, but I'd be more motivated to spend the money if I knew it would relieve this fatigue problem. I'm looking for a reason other than just "they'd sound better :D"

Missing frequencies chunks made me feel bad. I absolutely hate it when they play music through cell phone speakers. The sound is so teeny and unbalanced it almost hurts.
Maybe you have my same problem, just amplified. EQ might help.

>listening to stuff too loud causes fatigue
>cheap stuff has wonky tuning, and sharp resonances cause fatigue
>on ear has 0 comfort, unlike a good over-ear headphone
Money issue

you probably fell for the iem meme. go to your local dollar store, and pick up their finest $5 fare, and that should fix you right up.

what the fuck are you talking about? i don't have any IEMs :|

well at least you managed to avoid that mistake. now follow my advice and your ears will last you until you're 93.

Not sure about the laptop speakers, but my ears hurt from headphones that don't give them enough room.
Big open backs that don't even touch my ears are the way, but they're pricey.

WHAT ADVICE
>>
>>108192363
You might be autistic. I have the zx330bt and they're the most unobtrusive headphones I've ever owned and I have a large melon

- turn the volume down
- turn off any kind of loudness/compression features

so i tried to use a noise generator with my laptop speakers to figure out if it's because of treble

https://29a.ch/noise-generator/

and when i listen at max volume to white or pink noise, and then switch to brown noise, it's obvious that the latter is much more tolerable. the white and pink noise is very fatiguing and grating but the brown noise is relatively comfortable to listen to.

so i'm beginning to think it's because of excess treble. since my stuff >>108195986 is clearly very mid/treble biased. there's basically no bass or even low mids in these speakers. the headphones are bit better though so--i tried just now with the headphones and it's basically the same story. white/pink noise I can just tell are more grating than the brown noise.

so it's safe to assume i need to buy something that's more neutral/has low mids and bass, as it will let me use a lower volume to hear everything and not blast myself with treble, right? or is that wrong?
