How do we make modern file formats more appealing to the cool weeb kids at /g/?
av1 webms never ever4chan is not a video hosting website/gif/ should only accept GIF file uploadsjpg, and png are all you need
what do you have against JpegXL?
>>108195640Deprecated technology.
>>108195644You're actually delusional if you think that, especially with chromium now adopting it. We'll only need three image formats: AVIF, SVG, and JXL. The latter is better for most cases and also replaces GIF but is weaker than AVIF on vector-y images.
>>108195640Exactly
>>108195722Humanity peaked at jpeg 2000
>>108195537i can't post webps or avifs here so they are dead to me
>>108195537What exactly is "modern" about them? They offer zero features over currently-existing formats.>filesize and rendering spe-Fuck that shit. Why isn't there an animated format with independent looping layers, or even branching or random animations? Where is the image format with "gutter" color depth where numbers can break the 256 limit so data isn't lost via adjusting hue and gamma?Where the fuck are THESE? I want image formats that let you say "check out this cool dice roll gif, it picks a random number 1-6 each time". I want pixel art with four layers each with its own independent frame count. I want images that change according to your browser or operating system. I want image formats with FEATURES rather than edge-case optimization!

>>108195537Make more comparisons like webm related. AVIF seems to be unusually good at compressing large flat colors with minimal bayer noise and chromatic aberration, in other words, Anime images. In fact JXL's death is a real possibility if the mainstream internet starts to care more about 2D than 3D.
>>108196497>In fact JXL's death is a real possibility if the mainstream internet starts to care more about 2D than 3D.lol
>>108196497>q50Meaning ffmpeg was used to produce those imagesmake a better comparison
>>108196497
>>108196700It's not mine but even SS2 BPP graphs (ie biased toward Jpeg XL) seem to confirm that AVIF was built from the ground up by dedicated engineers/developers/scientists, all working tirelessly and thanklessly to...compress Anime as much as possiblehttps://giannirosato.com/blog/post/image-comparison/
>>108197006fileshttps://files.catbox.moe/duu3cd.pnghttps://files.catbox.moe/ohwfuj.avifhttps://files.catbox.moe/er6c4b.jxlavif took 1:30 to encodejxl just a few seconds on the slowest settings
>>108197074libavif uses the AOM encoder by default so that's expected, there's no other way to preserve 4:4:4 chroma resolution and like 100 PSY stuff that pertains to images.SVT-AV1 will actually reach parity with libjxl even on the slow settings but I'm not sure how much compression efficiency is sacrificed...
HOWEVER 4:2:0 (is SVT-AV1) isn't the devil because Anime video is also 4:2:0. So keep that in mind, you fucking weebs.
>>108197074Is catbox broken?reuploadhttps://limewire.com/d/QHMnH#FJEVPHzWV1
>>108197132I've noticed that AVIF destroys the original colors because it's using a different color space, which is more annoying than the encoding time
>>108196438Nope. I'm just autistic.
>>108195537allow them with soundI still don't get why it's allowed on /gif/ but not here or elsewhere
>>108195644sometimes deprecated tech can be fine
>>108197229You have to specify CICP and a bunch of other special snowflake options that aren't necessary with Jpeg XL. When you get things just right there are some non-Anime samples in which libavif will outperform libjxl in compression efficiency. Stuff like this is probably what genuinely caused Chrome devs to abandon support for Jpeg XL so it wasn't just google being "le evil" this time, technically speaking anyways.>80 = very high quality. Distortion not noticeable by an average observer in a side-by-side comparison at 1:1 from a normal viewing distance. This corresponds to the typical output of cjxl -d 1.5 / -q 85 or libjpeg-turbo 4:2:2 quality 85.https://github.com/cloudinary/ssimulacra2File size: 254 KB (~29% smaller than JPG)https://files.catbox.moe/ptvr88.avif--sharpyuv -s 6 -q 72 -d 10 -y 420 --cicp 1/13/1 -a tune=iqFile size: 284 KB (~20% smaller than JPG)https://files.catbox.moe/isrw29.jxl-q 91 -e 7 --override_bitdepth=10
AVIF is like a dragster to JXL's Mazerati. Sure, it can perform really well in compression efficiency in specific scenarios, but it's very limited in other ways. JpegXL is a much better all-rounder.
>>108197456Hmmmmmm, I dunno but since AVIF really is AV1 being forced to pretend to be an image codec, there seems to be a lot of levers and cranks you have to deal with as shown in the post above yours. Arguably that's a pretty big pro on Jpeg XL, you just input -q 90 and the results will probably be good enough and more importantly consistent.

Since you guys might know, is the best quality I can download with YouTube premium better with webm container or mp4 container? Specifically at 1080 if it matters
