>KDE Plasma is the only competent desktop environment>crashes constantly, uses too much ram, and looks uglyWhy is it so difficult for lintards to make software that does basic shit that Windows did 20 years ago? I tried other DEs and stacking WMs, but none of them support all of the following:>resizes windows when dragged while maximized (none of the stacking WMs that I tried do this)>scales properly on high resolution monitors (only KDE and Gnome do this properly)>has a file manager with folder thumbnails (only dolphin supports this)
>>108202691>crashes constantlyKDE 4 came out during the Bush presidency you fucking retarded Jeet, get over it. Plasma 6 is great.
>>108202742>anyone who points out that KDE is unstable is an Indian

>>108202691why not install dolphin from flatpak to gnome and just use gnome if you don't like kde.
One of these days, Cinnamon will receive massive improvements and take over, just you waitOr someone will make a full hybrid between hyprland and normal DE that's not janky shit like dank shell
>>108202691>KDE Plasma is the only competent desktop environmentWrong>crashes constantly, uses too much ram, and looks uglyTrue
>>108202777>it does not465 bugs reported in the last week;https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?chfield=%5BBug%20creation%5D&chfieldfrom=7d&f1=product&o1=notequals&v1=Spam>it does not2.1GB idle on Fedora.>it does notnot even its devs think it looks good, thats why the GNOMITIFICATION is happening (ruining the last few good sides of kde).https://thelibre.news/the-future-of-kde-styling-and-design/
>>108203221Honestly I don't know what's the good side of KDE, padding is the most fucked aspect and it's not a thing you can just change in the settings, so most themeing is worthless anyways besides colorsBut every new meme in Plasma is 3 times more broken on GNOME (HDR, VRR, fractional scaling, basically anything worth using Wayland for)
>>108202691>scales properly on high resolution monitors (only KDE and Gnome do this properly)i have a 4k display and kde always looked like shit here, fonts were terrible as well. cant wait to get ride of this meme resolution.
>>108202742*checks the weather*
*squeekdabs on your Ktroon corpse*
>>108203244Yeah fractional scaling is fucked. If it was any good there wouldn't be like 6 different fucking rounding methods. The only really good solution for this unfortunately is the footfag solution: integer scaling. Twice or bust. Nothing in between. What's that you bought 1440p? Get that shit closer and increase the fonts a little.Honestly, GNOME with the font scale factor set higher is probably the best compromise if you want bigger fonts and shit not to look too fucking weird or out of place, except GNOME is shit.
>>108203309>stable, reliable, worksIt's too boring for the average Linux user, they want something they have to constantly tinker with
>>108203309Actually great but call me when Wayland support is out of the experimental phase. Need vrr and mixed refresh rates.
>>108203348It not supporting Jankland yet is a good thing though
>>108203331You're narrowing it all down to "people want to tinker" but sometimes what people want is "modern hardware feature support", so they either cuck it up or accept the lack of stability.
>>108203239i think its only appeal is to be friendly to window refugees or at least people whom think windows like DEs are the only viable choice like OP, i was stuck with that mindset for a long time too, but moved over thankfully.>>108203309what a smug, this thing does theming right, even the qt applications behave better here.>>108203311>What's that you bought 1440?i didnt, lets say im stuck with it for now. like you said gnome has the better approach, it is either x1 or x2 like xfce, everything in between wont look alright. but when i was on kde even that look'd bad, i tried everything to strike a balance between font size X scaling but it was never satisfactory, the fonts look'd extra blurry on custom config even tho im very close to the screen.
>>108203379>modern hardware feature supportThey're actively working on Wayland and once it's ready, there won't be any argument against it anymore
>>108203221>2.1GB idle on FedoraFedora uses more RAM than other distros regardless of desktop environment, lmao. Manjaro KDE (or anything Arch KDE) uses under 1GB of RAM after a cold boot.
>>108202691Any why are the animations so gross? And that massive lag on ALT-TAB.This desktop is gross.
>>108203420This worked just fine on KDE5 too. KDE6 added so much pointless dogshit animations like they're trying to emulate W11 reactshit. You can tinker with a bunch of shit to make it more bearable but its not completely fixable.
>>108203407You know you can have a wayland desktop without the features that would make it worth using, right?Once XFCE has wayland support, there's no guarantee for working HDR, VRR, and all the other stuff that actually makes it worth using on modern hardware over X11. I think a lot of people would actually go the fuck back to X11 if they didn't have some of those things.
>>108203418when i was on debian 12 + kde it used 1.2GB idle, fresh boot. i doubt it is any less nowdays.
>>108203438There is no kde on debian and derivs. There is a random old version from 2019 in the repos.

>>108203497Open your Google app, type in Debian kde-plasma package version
>>108203481nevermind you said already, although i dont think most people will install arch, cachy+kde is probably bloated too and i havent heard of manjaro for a long time. point is, kde uses a lot of ram or more ram than most other DEs minus gnome.>>108203510so outdated kde is not kde? i can agree that the debian + kde is a terrible combo.
>>108203518I said "anything Arch KDE". I have no idea where you've conjured up "cachy+kde is probably bloated too" because it uses under 1 gig after a cold boot.
Back when I was using Mint about 3-4 years ago, with a more traditional setup, I liked how everything looked with the more classic themes. It just looked fucking right to me on Cinnamon.I cannot for the love of me make plasma look and feel like that. Everything that's not a pain to customize ends in just the same fucking flat transparent shit. I'm sorry I just like how this looks. This looks right to me. Some people might hate it, I just want this back
>>108203533I like how normal it looks
>>108203533>can see through the start menuModern Cinnamon lacks these transparency effects
>>108202691>that Windows did 20 years agoBecause they don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves, they want to be THE GUY. If they cared they would gather all their efforts in one piece of software

If you're a retard run FVWM with PCFMan.If you're not a retard run CWM and just do everything in Bash.Everything else is a bunch of retarded highschoolers LARPing as Microsoft employees. Don't listen to them.
>>108206331Actually I just checked and Dolphin has gotten *way* better than PCManFM (maybe it always was, idk, I don't use those.) Otherwise this is right. KDE as a desktop environment has always been unusable trash just like Gnome.
KDE lost.
