I'm thinking about buying a USRP B210 Kintex-7. Can one of you anons speak to the quality of these Chinese FPGAs?

>>108223155SDR? pic rel is best approach>I've got two>one dedicated to ADS-B stuff>second one is currently doing P25 stuff
You wont find the good stuff unless you go to shangai snd then smuggle it back. (4/5g full duplex)
Why not just get a hackrf and use that with your computer?
>>108225121expensive and you get added to every glowie database if you order it
>>108223155>Can one of you anons speak to the quality of these Chinese FPGAs?I can't, I've never had one.Casual glance, tho, it appears to be an open source design. So assuming that was good initally and they've managed to fab it without fucking it up, chances are good.>>108223238>Clones suck most of the time.Good thing that was built to be what it is then, huh?>>108224070That's RX only?>>108225121>Why not just get a hackrf$200 vs $2?Just a guess mind...>>108225135>added to every glowie database if you order itIf I'm not already there they f'kin slackin'
I just got a new job somewhere that does radar. What can I buy to learn some more about this stuff? I know absolutely nothing
>>108226002how did you get the job then?
>>108223155I have limeSDR and used bladeRF, both are great>>108225121it's not full duplex>>108225135>glowie database really? glad I never ordered it under my name then lmao>>108226197prolly pajeet, nepo, or a womana couple months ago I applied to radar engineer job, 4 interviews and I aced them all, technical or behavioral and in person, after 2.5months they sent a generic email saying suck it up we went with another dude
>>108223155imma drop some spoiler hereantenna > sdr equipment if your antenna is shit all you're going to see and hear is noises and emf
>>108224070Are these two virtually the same?

>>108223155 any toddler level guide to SDR ?
>>108226613AFAIK - fair warning, I'm not an ADR expert - they are the same.Well. They sport the same SDR chips... Mine cost a tenner...As another anon points out (and I did previous) they're RX only. But they stil good enough to grab data off satellites as they go passed...
>>108226636I'm not sure 'bout that none...Grab >>108226613 one o them. Should be able to find for cheaps. Then ofc to assume you'll want to do more than DVB you might want some software to go with that...SDR++ and analog signal hunter are good shouts, I thought...Other than that - play? What you wanting to do with such a beastie anyhay?
rtl_tcp nearly every sdr-warez speaks it
using mine to spy on public services after being frustrated with op25 i noticed r/rtlsdr mention https://github.com/TrunkRecorder/trunk-recorder
>>108226613The antenna on this one fucking sucks.
Since we're on the topic of SDR - can anyone help me diagnose what the FUCK happened to my stock dipole antenna that came with picrel? It used to work amazingly well and I was picking up ADS-B from hundreds of km away. Now suddenly anything above ~500 mhz is pretty much just flat noise. FM broadcast and the 70cm Ham band still works ok somewhat. The dipole has spent a significant time outside exposed to the elements. I checked the connectivity between each pole and its respective center pin/shielding and it seems fine. There doesn't seem to be any shorts or signs of corrosion either. Should I bother trying to fix it or just get a new antenna?
>>108229731If you're using it for ADS-B, built a co-co antenna. My antenna on top of my house (about 25') off the ground picks up ADS-B from aircraft at FL350 that are 200 miles away.> pick good coax> build slowly> use a multimeter to check for fuck ups
>>108226287>it's not full duplexjust get two, retard
>>108226197I don’t know. By knowing C++ and embedded Linux I guess. I was honest in the interview about having zero radar knowledge. I’m trying to do some learning on the side to fill in the theoretical gaps hopefully with some smaller affordable hardware.
>>108226287What does full duplex do and what devices do duplex?
>>108226287>limeSDR$1k damn I'm too poor for that, is there something like adalm pluto but with HF bands coverage?
>>108229731the antenna is probably corroded on the inside
>>108223155https://meshtastic.org/???
>>108229731>Now suddenly anything above ~500 mhz is pretty much just flat noiseInterference?>There doesn't seem to be any shorts or signs of corrosion eitherPollution building up a film? Shit that builds up on your car will build up there... Not as heavy, but still. Might effect. /me shrugs.>>108234656That?>just get a new antenna? That.Dipole? See what tickles yur clittles in Yagi...And whilst you're at it, as you have an SMA jack anyway, why not take a gander at boosters that'll dribble you up. Should only be RX so can shave costs with a ½duplex jobbie, and not puttin' out you don't *really* have to worry about 'legal' limits to strength in terms of watts, and double, or even triple digits may be on the cards... Depends what you'd wanna spends...>>108233826>full duplex doLong story short, shouts and listens at the same time. ½duplex is shouting or listening...>>108234686??I'm not OP, btw.But what you mean? In theory, suttin' like meshtastic could be used on top of this... I've no personal experience, but RF is RF after all. Might need to be mindful that TX frequencies you can use with impunity are limited. Generally, you can step outside the rewls, no biggie. But if someone notices, depending on the scale of what you fuck up that causes them to notice, they will make a point of finding you...
>>108224070You cannot transmit with that tho
>>108226002>surrounded by experts in radar>still asks nonnymousse for help
>>108235288>cannot transmitNTABut sometimes, anon, RX is all you actually need...Horses for courses...>>108235746>>surrounded by experts in radarI'm still waitin' for that quantum chip - or at least that technology - to get outta the labs n into my hands. If you're shoeless as to what I'm talking here, your 'common' SDR needs to hop frequencies to 'listen'... This 'quantum' beastie eats them *all*. At the same time. Naturally this shit is going into 'advanced' radar systems resistant to interference, detection, and manipulation before the unwashed masses get near... If we're lucky maybe 2035...
>>108237365m8, wtf does quantum chips got to do with learning the basics?
>>108237458>got to do withFuckall?Just made me think o a toy aint played wit is all. First up how "absolutely nothing"? >>108230713why? I barely have any space left on the back of my laptop>>108233826half is like a one way lane, you either use it going or returning, but never at the same time
>>108229552it does but if you grab the antenna you get better reception because your body becomes the antenna and if you nazi salute around the room you pick up different stationsit's a neat way to show people how radio works and you get to heil hitler while doing it
>>108226613Kinda. But the real McCoy has a lot added to it to make it more viable as an SDR instead of just being a TV receiver with an oversized band. Just spend the extra for the kit with the di-poles and stuff that rubber ducky bullshit. You won't regret it.
>>108235009>>108240736So which devices do full duplex?
i bought a pair of baofengs and they work fine. honestly because USB SDRs jumped in price so much in the past few years, at this point i think my UV-17 (which can transmit!!!) is actually cheaper than the typical RTL-SDR and i can just like record audio off it for further analysis if i really want>>108241848generally not many, even high-end marine radios achieve "full duplex" by just having multiple smaller radios grouped into onealso due to the nature of radio, full duplex is next to impossible on a single frequency. you generally have an uplink frequency and downlink frequency, which is much simpler and doesnt require any fancy signal processing.>>108226002just ask your boss lol>>108232443if you're not larping, what do you want to knowyou can get a basic start looking at military manuals i guess. in the military people are just button-pushers but still need to know the basics to tune their radars correctly or at least know what the different settings meanim not in radar myself but know the bare basics and some fuddlore
>>108225152>That's RX only?Yes.
Now that I have intimate knowledge of every jeet security guard on FRS, is there anything fun left to do with my memefeng radios?
>>108241848bladeRF, LimeSDR are affordable and good. I don't how much they cost now, but the blade I think was 600 and lime was 300 or something

can you be tracked when using an rtlsdr?
>>108244178you cannot be tracked if you only receive, bc there is nothing to track, unless you have a visible antenna where is not legal or some other shit
>>108244178This. You cannot be tracked if just passively listening and receiving. However, if you transmit and send a literal boomer in some rusted out pick up truck could triangulate you probably in minutes. Exaggerating but kind not.
