Why are PCs so much harder to optimize for? Is it really that much harder to build for the high-end CPUs and low-end CPUs?
harder than what? mexican jumping beans?
>>108225461>Why are PCs so much harder to optimize forlots of combinations of cpu models, ram timings, motherboard chipsets, and videocards you idiotthats why apple OS just works smoothly, it's because they need to iron out a few bugs for like 5 platforms instead of 5 million part combos
>>108225514>apple OS>just worksSure, if all you're trying to do is write reports at starbucks between sucking mountains of cocks. But if you're trying to do any actual work, no the fuck it doesn't. Lmao.
it's actually very possible to make a cheap, low-end PC that's very well optimized and efficient for its price point. only mouth-breathing try-hard min-maxxer uber-autists act like you need the absolute best, S-tier, AAA, $20,000 PC builds using only the best parts that got the highest benchmarks on Tom's Hardware to have a functioning PC.You can make a very effective and optimized PC for $500-$700 that will very likely do everything you need it to do.
>>108227719It can objectively run games better with less hardware. I'm surprised by what this Mac Mini can do, my Windows machine with better specs did worse.
>>108227762lmao mac minis are outright ripoffs
>>108227719Yes, that's why every professional developer or anyone doing anything remotely useful with their computers are either using macOS or Windows. On the other hand, if your life revolves around changing fonts in your terminal and debugging why suddenly your mouse doesn't work - Linux is your ideal OS.
>>108227811Yes, I'm telling you the Mini will run games better than what you just posted. That's the point.
>>108227896lol yeah right buddy
>>108227876Thank god that's due to the objective superiority of these OSes and not the constant shilling towards companies and public institutions at every occasion.>On the other hand, if your life revolves around changing fonts in your terminal and debugging why suddenly your mouse doesn't work - Linux is your ideal OS.And what the fuck is this shit anyway "Hurr, durr, here's some supposed linux issue from somewhere i wasn't born.". At least make something up that's worthwhile.
>>108227896>The absolute state of macfags.Which games? Go on, post some.
>>108225461cuz pc jews mafia fucks everyone with 100 different specs of same piece of hardware. there is no reason for this shit to exist. just produce top-tier-only components.
>>108227742Umm I need a 360mm AiO and brown fans for my 65W cpu and 120W gpunot to mention a $200 sheetmetal box with a disco light viewing portal
>>108225461retarded questionthey're notconsole optimisation isn't a thing anymorealso there aren't that many variations in pcs either, every generation of cpu/gpu functions the same under the hood, you just have more meat to spread the load under
>>108227896I’m a happy Mac mini owner but I got a refund for Nine Sols because it couldn’t handle my Switch controller properly Probably got more FPS than the other thing, though
>>108227742Build me a 500$ pc that can run battlefield 6 and marvel rivals at 240 fps
>>108225461It's not. Devs are just fags.
>>108225461Dude, nVidia and AMD can't even optimize their own fucking drivers, how do you expect random game devs to be able to?
>>108225461console optimisation is fucking dead you retardthey upscale from 720p on low settings and the inferiority of controllers as an input device takes care of the restand on the pc hardware side there really aren't that many permutationsall the hardware within the same generation is fundamentally the same, an r5 9600 is treated the same as an r7 9800x3d, a 5050 is treated the same as a 5090
>>108227811>22w vs 45w>120gb/s ports vs 10gb/s portsit's not the win you believe it is.nevertheless, macos ai is an abomination.
>>108228695it is when you consider how much you lose from being limited by applethey don't even have native vulkan
>>108225461You can just skip the entire optimization process by telling your users to get a stronger CPU/GPU, saving several months if not years in the development time. That's millions of dollars saved in salaries (programmer has to optimize code, artists have to make lower LOD models, etc).
>>108228179>build me a $5000 car that can win F1 japanese gp
>>108227811>$100 more for a much more powerful PC with a better OS>ripoff?
>>108225461Because of diversity.
>>108228065>Thank god that's due to the objective superiority of these OSes and not the constant shilling towards companies and public institutions at every occasion. No, it must be that your average Linux Ooga Booga distro is far superior as a desktop OS. It's just that nobody is using it because le evil Microsoft/Apple are using mind control.>And what the fuck is this shit anyway "Hurr, durr, here's some supposed linux issue from somewhere i wasn't born.". At least make something up that's worthwhile.- constant screen flickering/dithering- app store constantly crashing when window maximized (lol)- desktop icons for some reason not clickable anymore- HDR not working- text clarity utter shit- and other fun bugs you get when using a server OS as a desktop daily driver
>>108234487>quick, my shitty flamethread is dying!
>>108234551>No arguments whatsoeverLike clockwork.
>>108234734You're retarded.
>>108225461It's not that it's harder to optimize for. It's that PC users can notice problems and console users can't. They've been living with 30fps and upscaling for 20 years. So only PC users complain.
>>108234761Damn, you got me!
>>108225461>so much harder to optimize forThey aren't.If anything it's easier because everything is standard and has ton of documentation, unlike consoles where often even the maker doesn't know how to use their thing at full power (N64 being the most hilarious case at this, but it's common to all).>>Is it really that much harder to build for the high-end CPUs and low-end CPUs?The actual issues are:>game director not setting a clear "minimum spec that can run the game" and clear "minimum spec that can run at max settings" right from the project start - AND make sure those machines are available to QA and devs>dev's own PC need to be way beefier than the target to handle building the game in a reasonable time or running it alongside diagnostic toolsConsoles have the advantage on those two, since the specs are hard set for you.>"competency crisis" hitting optimization harder than anything, as optimization require understanding how shit actually work (superficially won't cut it), not just blindly applying some "best practice" nor treating the hardware as a magical black box>marketing loving bullshot and pushing for unnecessary graphical capabilities (helped in that by graphicfags, although the current era seems to be taming them a bit)>the eternal "we need 3 years to make all of that, and management gave us 3 months" that force everyone to pick whatever code "just work" and can be shat out fast instead of pulling something requiring finesse and testing>the eternal "feature list changed 5 time this month" that both add new performance cost in place that where carefully set to run at 60.001 fps AND encourage grafting the new random shit design demanded on an existing system that wasn't designed for it from the beginning >90% of optimization being about picking between many algos all with different perf and different limitations, but neither management nor art department being willing to accept ANY limitation so you can only pick the generalist-and-slow algo
>>108231808>better OSWhat OS would that be?
>>108234810>It's that PC users can notice problems and console users can'tSonic's "Secret Level" is still beautiful in that category.
>>108235158>"feature list changed 5 time this month"Most modern vidya is just a glorified point and click adventure game.
wow this thread is full of stupid people
