Any good headphones yet?

Requesting advice for babby’s first DAC
-US, will be ordering over the internet
-$400, but I might be willing to go a bit over
-Looking for a DAC for a desktop computer that’ll stay in one place and be a “do everything” for computer audio on headphones. Will be used for all types of music, but electronic will be the most common. Will also be used for gaming but that’s comparatively minor.
-Currently have a Sound Blaster AE-5 sound card and Sennheiser HD 600 headphones. The AE-5 sounds good but I want to upgrade and everyone says sound cards have EMI and DACs will always be the better option. I like the HD 600s and have used Audio-Technica ATH-R70xs in the past, I might like the 600s a bit better.
>>
>>108228257
You'll never need more than a Topping DX3 Pro+, but there are plenty of cheaper models that would also be perfectly adequate, starting with dongle DAC/Amps.

If you want a DAC, then a Schiit stack (whatever fits your budget), or Apos Druid R2R DAC + Apos Gremlin tube amp.

>a “do everything” for computer audio on headphones
What does that entail precisely?

Do you actually encounter any such issues in your setup? Because if you don't, another DAC will make precious little difference.

Continuing my posts from yesterday, does it looks like leather pad to you? About 1-2mm thick, in places where holes are it has brown undyed color. It feels stiff but it's soft if it need to be. It absorbed moisture and oil. I could use bit of flame on the outside but it's my only pair of those. Do you think it's leather or fake leather? Bought from AliExpress for 15usd

Now you need to spend $2,000+ on your next upgrade because this hobby (yes, buying shit online is a hobby) is ALL about spending more and more money for updoots. This definitely goes in the "too good to be true" category, anon. If we talk full high-quality grain/top grain leather, which is what usually people mean when talking about leather.
Definition of "Leather" is really smeared at this moment, it could be just chemically processed pressed mixture of leather shreds. Technically this also counts as leather. Even if it is artificial leather, it does not mean anything bad per se, there are some high-quality pads made of artificial leather which hold for decades.
>>
>>108228257
Like others said, you don’t need more than a dongle as a DAC. You might benefit, however, of an amp. Luckily, DACs and amps often come together nowadays, and getting a good stack gives you other benefits such as RCA input bypass, balanced connectors and more IO in general. I bought my DAC (smsl c200) just for headphone s initially, but when I got into proper speakers, it worked great as a preamp and I can quickly change between them and headphones with the click of a button.

The stuff about AlNiCo isn't wrong necessarily, but seeing as ETA still do repair/replacement jobs on the Fostex mods they did like 7 years ago I'm confident they'll fix whatever might happen with the magnets after however many years so I'm not too concerned about obsolescence.

One has nothing to do with the other. You can increase or decrease treble and have an observable effect, but there's no neutral amount of treble for all listeners because headphones exclude parts of your anatomy which normally inform what neutral is.

I have no love for Drop but this is a shame since it means the Koss electrostat won't ever be back either. Also means DCA planars for $400 are also no longer a thing.
>>108242169
Use a hair dryer. Don't use in ears after showering as that's an even worse idea since that will give you an ear infection. Or just cut your hair shorter, will take less time to dry.
>>108241790
Yes but JT7 is a better planar for less tbdesu. Either way you get chinkshit quality control but the JT7 is tuned better. You might also want to look at FT1 Pro. Albeit I've heard unit variation might be an issue. Sundara is one of chinkfiman's best models, at the very least. This one doesn't have the treble distortion spike XS/XV have.

>>108245722

The iridescent version looks a bit dumb, but the black one is quite fine actually.
If you don't like the silver metal driver mesh, it seems to be attached with screws, so its literally 5 minute unscrew and black spraypaint job if you don't like it.
Also if you like autistic eastern european USSR-inspired design, Neuropunk M1 looks quite fascinating and does not measure that bad either.
