>70 US dollars for the fucking screwdriver

Can I get a qrd

I've tried reading about it and I see a bunch of marketing buzzwords trying to make it sound appealing. What is so compelling about this goddamn screwdriver?
>>
if it's seventy dollars, I bet its pretty nice. Otherwise nobody would buy it for that price and they'd have to take less

amateur, garage level mechanic here.

if its a decent screwdriver, it should be manufactured in taiwan. as most US tool industry moved their industry over to taiwan for their premium stuff. even snap-on is now manufacturing some of their components in taiwan. if its china or anywhere else, its shit quality by default.

analyzing the tech snake oil man, screwdriver, it appears to be a generic driver. what you are paying for is the OMG MILLENNIAL, REMEMBER THE 2000'S TRANSPARENCY? case. a ratcheting screwdriver, with under handle bit storage, can sell as low as $5 for a chinese quality one. a good taiwanese one can cost about $15-$20 for a no name. a brand name one manufactured in taiwan can sell for about $30-$50. a us made snap-on

you are paying $70 for nostalgia and giving snake oil canadian man more money.

for that kind of money, you can buy a snap-on for $100: https://b2b.snapon.com/productDetails/SGDMRC44BO/2

you can find used snap-on ones for $30 on ebay.

or just buy the williams one:
https://www.amazon.com/Williams-WRS-1-Magnetic-Ratcheting-Screwdriver/dp/B002NI1LZK/

williams is the actual manufacturer for snap-on for it. its $39.99. USA made, quite literately snap-on without the snap-on branding.

Just get a normal screwdriver set. You don't need this and never will.

https://www.amazon.com/GEARWRENCH-19-Ratcheting-Multi-Bit-Driver/dp/B0929DFRG2

$23 for a Gearwrench ratcheting screwdriver. Much better value.

Even this Craftsman one for $17 is a better value: https://www.amazon.com/CRAFTSMAN-Ratcheting-Screwdriver-26-Piece-CMHT68001

If you are willing to pay $70, for a bit more you can get this Gearwrench torque ratcheting driver: https://www.amazon.com/GEARWRENCH-Drive-Torque-Screwdriver-10-50/dp/B08KHQVFCK/ and never have to worry about over tightening screws again because you can torque to spec.

Linus doesn't need anymore money. Don't buy his overpriced crap.

why people like so much ratcheting screwdrivers, i dont get it, its not like you can do a lever or something, the free spinning part in the opposite end is enough for me

so they advertise as either made in america or made in canada. going through their catalog seems like their stuff is priced between $30-$50. way better buying directly from them than snake oil canada man stuff. save yourself a decent chunk.
apparently costco sells their stuff sometimes: https://www.glbc.com/blog/megapro-case-study/
$35 isn't bad at all.

its nice for long screws or stuck in tight spaces. though if you really want to ratchet, just pick up a nice flexhead 1/4 ratchet, a bit adapter, some bits, and a few extension bars and go to town.
i really like the gearwrench 120xp ratchets. they are effectively clones of the older snap-on 120 tooth ratchets but easier to obtain and much cheaper. very smooth and little drag. excellent quality.

20 fucking posts and not one of you dumb ass niggas has mentioned the iFixIt Manta kit, been using this shit since it came out and have fixed literally everything I own, I used it to save someone's weekend at Bonneville Speedweek and fixed their Audi ignitor module so their car could race. you can go right fuckin now to Best Buy and get one, right now, they're on the shelf.

you don't need that hipster Millennial omg nostalgia crap and if you really want it, find an old Xcelite screwdriver set, that's what these are trying to emulate and those old Xcelites are actually pretty good I have a few in my toolbox for my racecar. They do not suck at all.

t. 40yo greaser
>>
>>108231802
i have a ifixit kit in my toolbox too. the bits come in handy. the bits don't suck. they have taken a lot of abuse and havent strip any yet.
>>
>>108231802
>>108231833
So the iFixIt shit is actually decent and worth a shot? Good to know, was wondering about that some years back when I needed stuff.
>>
>>108232150

If you buy anything else you are a brainlet

I think I paid like 80 bucks for the Manta it's worth every red cent. you can fix pretty much any laptop or any computer hardware with one. I've opened up 1950's Soviet cameras with one and fixed them.

pic related, a Windows 7 Toshiba with Nvidia Go 7900 I slapped an SSD in and found was getting to fucking 95c on idle, fans were completely blocked with dust so I opened it up and cleaned it and repasted it.

i love 'em. they make great sets for small bits. i've been extremely impressed with their bits. the one on the left is about 7-8 years old of hard abuse, never striped. never chipped. one on the right is two years old.
>>
>>108232198
Buying an extensive bit kit and opening old stuff isn't exactly the one huge challenge, said bits and everything else surviving more than 10 screws obviously is. Having said that, glad to hear their stuff is actually worth a damn, thought of buying some of their phone kits at some point to change my battery at some point, wasn't sure if their stuff is worthwhile the price.
>>
>>108232287

The bits I have are all original ones and never chipped. I only had one chip when I was using it to pry the top off a Soviet Leningrad camera and they aren't designed for that.

They are awesome, one of the best tool driver sets I've ever used. I've done most of my camera repair with it.
>>
>>108230867
Looks cool but I can't justify it. I lost faith in ratcheting screwdrivers after a sparky ruined my original xaiomi. That being said Milwaukee has a nice one that's basically equivalent with standard bits for ~$30 which I would consider buying.

Never saw a usage for ratcheting screwdriver. Besides Lennox makes the best multibit in terms of comfort.
>>
I mean assuming it's decent quality it's not that crazy markup for influencershit
>>
>>108233740
It is since it doesn't have a lifetime warranty. Straight up garbage product
>>
>>108231036
so what makes it worth paying $100 for a screwdriver?
>>
>>108234228
A ratcheting mechanism, apparently
anon keeps saying "snap-on" as a reason. as a non-american I can only imagine their selling point was once magnetic tips, which every $5 screwdriver set has now
>>
>>108230867
Whenever you see a price and you think "outrageous", the answer is always some form of money laundering.
>>
Do you really need a ratchet for the screws you're using on a PC build?
Biggest no-need thing ever.
>>
>>108230867
Why use a screwdriver when you can use a drill?
>>
>>108232150
They're a bit overpriced IMO, but yes: The iFixIts are solid.

iFixxlers aren't BTFO in this case.
>>
>>108231681
Probably the same reason people prefer using ratchet sets over wrenches.

Are you trying to larp as a gen x, boomer, or zoomer here? Also, the >$70 screwdriver primarily comes in plain plastic. The semitransparent type is a specialty, not to mention something only insecure faggots would be offended by.

You can get a screwdriver set from Harbor Freight for like $10 and they'll last you the rest of your life if you aren't a retard. 99/9% of people never need anything more than basic flat and phillips drivers. I don't understand why people spend ridiculous amounts of money on basic hand tools.

I worked in a factory and all the technicians loved these things. $7, six in one, and magnetic. Hard to misplace with the red coloring. We had guys who would spend all day screwing in things and they never wanted some gimmicky ratcheting expensive driver.

Idk if there is a specific brand, tons of companies make similar red ones. Made in USA too.
>>
For me, it's the SBDR121RBRT. I've had it for over 10 years and all the original bits are still good. Bought it when I was turning wrenches for a living.
>>
>>108236555
People are retarded with money. They think they need something expensive when they'll use it once or twice a year or just on their PCs. You're right, just buy the cheapest set you can find, same with a ratchet set. Buy whatever set has the most parts for cheap. If you wear something out to the point it breaks, then buy a quality replacement for only that one.
>>
I got the transparent one.
It's a nice screwdriver, better than a $15 or so one you'd get at WalMart anyway
>>
>>108231802
Just get the 3 dollar harbor freight one unless you truly need a bunch of meme security bits beyond torx
