When I was using Windows, my HP printer told me I needed some gay proprietary app to print anything. When I switched over to Linux I just plugged it in and it worked without having to do anything. Do with this information what you will.

it has been happening forever, on some models firmware keeps track on the number of printed pages and kills the printer after something like 2000 prints so you have to buy a new one even of its physically flawless

Added plus is my family and friends have stopped asking me to use it. They still come around to borrow my van though
