Webp is the worst image format in the world and somehow every company is using it because those images are broken and they want us to have broken images

just screenshot then

I agree, it's a conspiracy
>>
I wouldn't call it a conspiracy, it was clearly a power grab by google because they couldn't stand the technically superior option (jpegxl) being deployed over their shitty hack

In this family we have jpegs and pngs!!!!!!!!!!!

File: 1766100617865174.png (181 KB, 400x400)
181 KB
181 KB PNG
whats wrong with webps other than 4chan not supporting them?
I genuinely don't know, they're just image files to me

It's a trojan horse format, you are promised a loseless image and receive lossy blurry crap which you can only distinguish by placing in a image inspector instead of immediately looking at the extension
And the lossy mode of webp makes everything blurry, it's way worse to look at than JPEG artifacts
It's being pushed because it's made by google to get a profit from serving worse images to the users without most noticing

???

In a lot of places you expect a image in the original quality that was posted, even if a jpeg was posted you expect no further degrading
But then they use webp that degrades images hugely, decades of JPEG and you didn't see the generational loss you see nowadays with webp
Normie memes are illegibly blurry due to being resposts from sites that use webp

Me either. I'm not nearly smart enough to engage in this conversation. But everyone else feel free to continue.

As bad as svg

Lossy mode always uses 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, which can sometimes produce very noticeable artifacts even at maximum quality, pic related.*
Other than that, many websites using WebP are the kind of websites that try to save as much bandwidth as possible, and consequently compress everything to hell with little regard for image quality, and usually they still serve JPG as fallback, with, for some reason, usually much larger file size and better image quality.

WebP compression settings: lossy, quality 100, Sharp YUV.
