>>108236752Nah OP you're not forgotten just retarded.>>108236759fpbp /thread
>>108236759Ok boomer
>>108236752I still use HDDs in my fileserver though.
>>108236752People still say 'save to Hard Disk/Drive', even when refferring to a high speed, PCIexpress 4.0 NVMe storage
not quite sata ssd is under revision but builders buy anything plenty
>>108236786no the don't unc. you don't even save files anymore
>>108236823>you don't even save files anymore??
>>108236752>she doesnt data hoard>in 5 years time she'll wonder where everything she likes to stream has gone
>>108236752Hard drives were cheaper back in the day, they might still be if you look on ebay haven't looked recently.
>>108236752I bought one of these for my NAS after using ssd long enough to forget how awful they are, and they are worse than you remember. It's the loudest thing in my basement and corrupted the first files I saved to it.
>>108236892I only watch things once. I never feel like rewatching a movie, much less TV shows.
>>108236759>>108236763>>108236770>>108236786>>108236972OP here, you bunch of homosexual r3dditorsI obviously meant picrel.
>>108236920>>108237013I hate this timelime.
>>108237013
My dad threw away a 20 year old pc and o took out the 250gb HDD for my home server. Made it dedicated for music
>>108236752Not really. They are indispensable.
>>108236752>sold out until 2030 or beyondyeah, they're doing just fine buddy
>>108239723>Asscock motherboardBruh
>>108236752I just bought four and am trying to buy another three, the vast majority of my storgage is raid with hdd or hdd, I only use ssd for booting a couple of win 10 boxes and a win 10 laptop and on a removable drive. I have no interest in nvme at all. To get that in perspective that's three machines out of 12 (not including the raid boxes which are also computers really)
>>108239634You should ahve kept the entire machine, flashed it up and reinnstalled it, what a waste
>>108240262Bro it was very outdated. I already had an old pc for a home server and it was still newer . I also took the ram even though it was useless
>>108236752lmao
>>108236752i need a new spinning rust drive (mine has been dying for years) but even the same drive costs more now than when i bought it
>>108236752The last 3 HDDs I've had have failed me spectacularly>Green WD in 2013Starts randomly disconnecting and throws IO errors>Blue WD in 20163 bad sectors. 3. and guess where they hit? right where the partition table is stored>seagate that arrived with landfill tier laptop in 2017faulty APM. would keep my OS unbootable sometimes.
>>108241364You bought the 3 worst HDD models on the market so I'm not surprised.
>>108241467what is the best HDD I can buy today?
>>108236752Based
>>108241473Toshiba MG series.HGST and WD Gold are okay if you get the drives that use helium, but they keep making random clicky noises for no reason which is really damn annoying.
>>108236752I just got a WD Purple today for my cameras.
>>108239981my asrock mb has lasted 10+ years. what are you talking about?
>>108236770>i still have a floppydick in my trousers so it can't be over!
>>108241564this anons rightl. the clicking drives me nuts. but WD Gold, WD Red Plus CRM, and Toshiba
>>108241637Out of stock
don't get pinched by these. it hurts alot.
>>108236752I'm going to need another large capacity drive soon. I bouht 2x 14TB drives in 2024 and I'm probably going to need at least another 14TB soon. They're more expensive than what I paid 2 years ago as well.Fuck this economy and fuck you.
>>108242561I know...I got pinched by these fuckers from amazon.
>>108236752Anons, how likely do you reckon is it for the HDDs to fall down in price this summer? I am hoping for 340-370 euro for Toshiba MG series 22-24TB. I don't want to pay the Jews AI tax and overpay by an obscene amount.
Will sd cards become the alternative?
>>108242707SD cards have been increasing in price since 2024 too. They don't have the longevity of HDDs. SSDs would be better than SDs I think.
>>108242659I wouldn't count on it. If you absolutely need one, I'd get it now. Prices may be up even more by Summer. But who knows, really.
>>108241364>>Green WD >>seagate2 of the biggest fuck ups and you drove head first asking for seconds right before your head splatters into a wall.
>>108242659Not until 2028
>>108241364i'm not even going to give you advice because i don't want other anons to compete with me.good luck tho.
>>108236752I just bought 3 4TB drives in a panic since they're sold out for 2026. It sold out now. I'm hoping they ship my last drive.
>>108242721I don't need it, I want it. I recently built the machine that will become my NAS + private server for various needs, the only that I am missing now are the 4 to 12x 22 or 24TB HDDs. I don't want to be a victim of the scalping, hence I'll just wait. It's not a matter of life or death, I just want to buy at least 4 in the somewhat near future. If the price somehow drops to 370 euro for 24TB I'll just buy 12 and be done with it for good.
>>108236759>>108236766
>>108242792You'll own nothing. Prices will drop, just like homes will become affordable again.Pay attention anon.
>>108240874Old machines are literally perfect for very old games, it makes you enjoy the original experience.I still have my pentium 1 to run DOS games. You have no idea how smooth and awesome it feels, modern hardware is bloated and lagging.
I've never had a hdd die on me. I've had them show signs of slowly dying, but I was always able to catch it in time and migrate to a new one.I had a m.2 ssd die on me. Just stopped working. Bad controller or something. I trust hdds more. Great for media files. Everything else will go on a ssd.
>>108236752Bought 4 10TB WD reds for my NAS the other day. The listing is gone from the site now. Out of stock.
>>108244809I had 1 of my HDD fail on me last month and decided send it back and RMA it a couple of weeks ago. I have no fucking clue how they're going to give me a new one when all of them are out of stock.
>>108241564Thanks anon, will keep that in mind
The world would be perfect if someone autistically upgraded Win98 or XP64 to run modern stuff as drivers by making think it is 10/11
>>108239981It works perfectly stable for a year now. Would buy again for the €243 I paid.https://www.igorslab.de/en/asrock-phantom-gaming-x870e-nova-wifi-in-test-cheap-taichi-alternative-with-experience-report-teardown-material-testing-and-thermal-modding/5/> You can hardly do better than that
>>108239981of course, this is my htpc / nas / server.
>>108236752henloordered my new 20tb external hdd yesterday
>>108246017Don't let the enterprise fag hear
>>108241818>my asrock mb has lasted 10+ years. what are you talking about?Asrock AM5 boards are killing Ryzen chips left and right.>>108242274>WD Gold, WD Red Plus CRMOnly buy the helium drives for these. The ones that use air are horrible. I'm talking 70C under load horrible without active cooling. You can spot these garbage ones on the spec sheets, if they use 9W load power and 34dBA noise in fucking idle, they are the garbage air drives. Helium ones have ~6W and 20dBA.Anything from 14TB and up uses helium at the moment.
>>108236920HD are hitting $20 per Tera now. Prices have doubled in the last month.
>>108241818>10+ yearsthat's why. Only 8000+ series CPUs and newer are effected
>>108246792yeah, I was expecting some HBA schizo crawl out of the woodwork. I once mentioned I use picrel in /hsg/, and I am still recovering from the trauma.
>>108246827>on the spec sheetsI hate that even sites like Canada computer don't have all the specs and you gave to manually go check. obviously you can expect that from AmazonI'm gonna buy 2x n300 8tbs despite them being 240 plus tax
>>108244046Nope, this won't happen. Just like the prophecy, in the end, Devil will rage upon the earth, in chaos.
>>108246024It will never come.
>>108247361neither will your cock in a vagina, homo
>>108241564>Toshiba MG series.you can't buy those today. They're sold out everywhere
>>108237085HNOME
>>108237085>image says "We know">filename says "We don't care"These two statements do not mean the same thing, moreover given the context of this image it is more appropriate to use it in instances where you actually care a lot about something.
>>108244635Eh i have a mister FPGA if i want to play those
>>108247826>you can't buy those today. They're sold out everywhereWell yeah, Toshiba has less manufacturing capacity and makes better drives, of course they get bought up first.
>>108239634IDE or SATA?>>108242707Unreliable, I don't think I've had any Iive more than a year, even when they sit unused. I have SATA drives from Optiplexes sold in 2008, that still work, some of them were dropped by retards and they haven't failed yet. USB drives a a tad better, but still feel like a time bomb if you bought some out of a bad batch.
