The continued enshittification of GNU/Linux has made me realize that I need to dive deeper into it. Arch with XFCE is no longer enough to stay away from bad software.
I used to believe that I could turn GNU/Linux into Windows and be happy with it. But GNU/Linux is not Windows or macOS. The design philosophy means that all attempts to turn it into (a better) Windows ends with a mediocre product that lack the ease of use and wastes away the power that Linux has. In the end, all you'll get is software that was once great, but now is getting rewritten in Rust for no reason, sometimes with the help of AI, also for no reason. With added dependencies that limit choice and increase vulnerabilities.
This was a foolish endeavor. The writing is on the wall. Soon the AI slop will start to leak in, and I have to be ready to just ship, just like I did with Windows.
The no DE autists were right.
The dwm chads were right.
The anti systemd spergs were right.
I might switch to Artix once I have free time next month. I'll go full dwm for the first time.

DXVK_ASYNC was a patch not done by upstream, dxvk did it's own similar thing in 2.1, so if you want to use ASYNC you're stuck with dxvk 2.0. If you've never used a standalone window manager before then it's going to be overwhelming for you, and I definitely suggest you start with something easier than dwm, maybe IceWM will be more to your liking since it's closer to an actual DE and also extremely lightweight.
There's also TDE if you don't mind a little bloat for a lot of extra functionality.

I'm so bad at computers I can't even get this into the right thread. Hyprland suggests adding some environment variables to the config, like xdg session type and qt qpa platform. I'm just curious why it has to be set. I've read articles. Looked at some wikis, and everything just says hey good idea to set this, but not really why to set it. I did some tests and for me it wasn't any different. I decided to ditch the fork and just use regular dxvk.
Also one thing what I noticed is that at least with umu-run, when using Mangohud with fps_limit it will instantly crash. I don't know if this is because of umu-run or ge-proton10-32 or something else.
I was testing Mangohud fps limit because dxvk dev himself recommended other options...
Not a big deal I just keep using dxvk/vkd3d limiters as long as they are still implemented. Just annoying really.

Also, it was effectively abandonware until recently since they halted the release of their 24 LTS until Cosmic was somewhat ready. PopOS users were stuck on Ubuntu 22 LTS base until a couple months ago. And for gaming this is awful since you're on an outdated driver/mesa stack. It's been there for a few years.
It's not as incompetent of a project as something like say, Manjaro or Garuda, which handled things much more poorly.
It's not EndeavourOS which is kind of pointless since it's just a bunch of very small additions (which also do not specifically break anything, so you could say it's harmless).
The modifications it has are a bit opinionated, but not too difficult to change. A good number of different distros borrow from it and they provide multiple kernel variants that can also be installed on other different distros (for instance you can basically install the same default kernel, settings and schedext GUI application in fedora if you wish). It is also not difficult to turn arch into this, the basic steps to do it are fairly decently documented.
The distro has been criticized because some it is being pushed as a gaming distro everywhere and it is advertised to increase performance drastically (in many cases it's neither here nor there, you might notice a slight increase in performance with newer CPUs but it's basically not the main reason why you would want to use this distro). Also because it is a derivative distro based on arch which leads to a lot of assumptions from historical cases of these being fucking terrible.

I use my countries time laboratory, Cloudflare, my old ISPs pool, some random iOT devices NTP pool and then of course the actual OpenWRT pool. You can add 6 or 7 different sources if you want a good distribution. Then get everything else on your network to sync from this device.

The reason Systemd only uses a single time source is because it's not a proper NTP daemon and is a shitty SNTP daemon (the 'S' is for simple). Its own man page even acknowledges if you want accurate time keeping then you should use a real NTP daemon.

Red Hat/IBM has offices in Cali and probably Colorado too, so I am sure they are going to "comply" in some form or fashion. Plus this particular game needs dll injection for modding and this creates issues with linux compatibility.

Hoping you guys can help me. I'm a life-long Windows user but I've dabbled in linux here and there, mostly without a gui so i'm comfortable working with the terminal. Last year I tried daily driving Arch on my gayming PC which went pretty well but ran into so many issues with Wayland that I ended up crawling back to WIndows.
I have an easy job so I spend a lot of time remote desktopped into my home PC (which I'm doing now) and I just couldn't find a workable alternative on Arch with Wayland. Gnome's RDP worked well but required my physical session to be logged out, so I couldn't pick up where I left off, and it kept me locked into Gnome. KDE's RDP was too slow. Nomachine just wouldn't work for reasons I never worked out.
I'm thinking about trying Linux again, maybe Arch, maybe something else, but with X11 instead of Wayland. Only problem is I have a lot of more advanced display requirements like HDR, VRR and so on that I don't think X11 handles well, if at all.

Fedora, after installing Steam native, Half Life 2 keeps crashing when you get to the 3d parts. After looking on the Arch wiki it tells me to run a command to see if there are any missing libraries. I run them and get this output:

I want to load a custom EDID. Normally this involves copying an edid file over /usr/lib/firmware/edid but this shit ain't just reading it.
As I understand, openSUSE uses dracut. I'm following these steps after copying it:

Not sure how badly it got raped by the previous owner but when I ran CrystalDiskInfo it said the m2 disk was like 96% healthy

I did try putting the smartctl log into the AIs but it hasn't really told me anything conclusive but I'm going to keep trying.
