how long is it too much? i've been unemployed since june and it feels brutal.i was working as a """data engineer""" but the job was a meme. it was a WFH where there was nothing to do though the company could mantain my position and i was confortable doing nothing and making money. now i have no prospects of getting a new job in this bloody AI market. no replies, no interviews, no responses, no nothing.how can i get a grip?
>>108274417i'm scared. i'm scared.>>108274404how did you get fired? other than applying for jobs what have you been doing since june? make any projects? link up with someone?
>>108274425well, the company was merge aquired and the new leadership started cutting costs until eventually got to me.to be honest, i'm stagnating: i plan to take certs and study core skills but i simply don't start. i'm too lazy or too scared of doing something. i know i'm not entitled to a job but i simply freeze when i have to do something. and finally my linkedin is not filled with info, just the positions/companies i worked in. i'm very low profile and so i don't like exposing myself too much.in the end, i know, i deserve this. i have a problem but i just don't pull myself up to do something.

2.5 years without a cushy tech job. This sucks. Manual labor is the fucking worst.
>>108273854Im wrapping up my last contract. Job boards are empty. 5 whole ass it jobs in my state on indeed and 1 on dice. 1 fucking it job. Do I admit (lie) that I've been an unlicensed contractor for the past 10 years?

Am I not getting calls due to not having a LinkedIn photo?
Last week I was doing labeling work for Anthropic through a contractor for $40/hour, and they can outright reject your "tasks" for completely subjective reasons. Of course, if they reject it, you don't get paid, so obviously they have incentive to reject your work. This is an elaborate scam to get a rotation of developers working for peanuts. There are so many "developers" desperate for any work that they can pull this off.If you're enough of a sucker to keep getting more than half of your work "rejected" and effectively getting paid $15/hour or less, good for them. If you're not, it doesn't matter, they have enough suckers to do at least 10 "tasks" for them before they figure out the scam.I was suspicious from the start, but if figured maybe this wasn't a scam because for each "task" you have to make a fully working app from scratch in 5 hours and compare the model's generated code through every prompt, so obviously programming expertise is required. Clearly I was wrong. So if you ever get an "offer" for shit like this don't fall for it.

Graduated ~6mo ago with PhD. Have elicited effectively zero interest in anyone. Got 1 interview early on but rejected a couple days later despite being a good candidate on paper (social skills my biggest weakness by far). Other than that only had an interview for temp position at early stage startup and the pos ghosted me after offering job and an interview with a furniture store I wasn’t good enough to work in. Trying and failing not to get caught up in all the places my experience might appear weak. Naturally been rough on the self-esteem and general outlook. Caved and applied to a couple postdocs (maybe 5). Get offer from lab at big name school after thorough vetting process. Get offer at ivy league school under huge name researcher I’ve been aware for years now. They even fly me out to meet the lab and seem interested in my work. Want me to be the ML expert for the lab. I’m sorry for you guys (and myself, god I’m so ready for a real job and not more of this pretending I’m a student to justify not paying me much bullshit), there’s something so fucked with the job market right now, especially tech and it’s all the worse for you 20ish year olds. Talked to someone with multiple years at google who’s struggling to get a job. As far as I’m concern this postdoc position is way more competitive in a reasonable timeline than any of the 100s of job apps I haven’t heard back from. Good luck. This shit is more than you being bad candidates

I got an interview right away, but then it didn't happen (arguably my fault). The HR person for that job was a man, and he has been completely unable to reply to my follow-up emails or anything. He's hopeless.>>108287974What I just wrote above is literally this. I was expecting an email with a link to the online meeting, but I didn't realise the link was in the previous email, so I spent five minutes waiting and the interviewer had given up on me by then. He has emailed me a couple of times since, so he didn't ghost me, but he can't arrange a new interview to save his life. He's hopeless. Or maybe he's just toying with me to humiliate me.

>>108288444I actually asked a friend how she got her job recently, because she was helping me because I'm convinced I'm doing it wrong. She asked what sort of wage I wanted, and I said £40,000, because that's pretty much the very maximum I can get and it's very slightly more than I was getting at my old job. Based on what I've read here, £40,000 in Bongistan is probably about $150,000 in American job money. Now, this friend is a nice person and she's helpful and stuff, but she doesn't radiate incredible genius or anything, and she was shocked at £40,000. In her words, "I wouldn't get out of bed for less than £70,000".By the way, "account executive" as a job title is just a bullshit sales job. Same as account manager, sales executive, and so on. They make up their own job titles and they pick fancy-sounding ones so they can impress the people they're trying to sell to. My old job had someone who was "account director", which we weren't happy about because legally, in the UK, if you are a "director" in a limited company then that means something very specific, and she is not a director. Her boss was the Head of Sales, which is the opposite of how it's meant to go with that job title. I think it might even be illegal for her job title to say "director" when she isn't one. But she was allowed to keep it because apparently it impresses people. It's all bullshit.
>>108288500I would take the job. You say you graduated in November 2024; I got my psychology degree in 2008 and was still getting minimum wage selling printer toner in 2014. The crappiest company outsourcing for Japan I applied for as a last-resort ticket in my shithole country just rejected me once I disclosed to them I had no degree. I thought they were supposed to give me another chance given that they scheduled on another call, thinking in retrospect is to realize it's just bureaucracy. Now I have to keep searching for jobs but this can only get harder. I'm 25 now and I live in a judgy rural bumpkin countryside that already spread whispers about how I still stay home for a year. Perhaps I should just go to the city and find any job at all to get away from this place. That's not the worst part, I have applied for so many companies already, many of them rejected or ghosted me and those that did were just hard to pass the tests or interviews. How do I cope with this?
So I found a job listing that seems perfect for me. I'm going to save up with my part time job to get my next cert, spend a few weeks studying the subjects on the listing, blog some more about relevant homelab projects, and tailor my resume. I figure there's a good chance I won't get it, but I'll be better prepared for a similar role.

I remember when i was still working on a company, i would receive 1-4 job offers messaged to me on linkedin. 2 of them always turns out to be fake or remote hell. There are also remote hell, you know? Thats when i was updating my LinkedIn during internship. When i stopped working there, the job offers never came again.
There used to be some data annotation gigs that paid $15-20/h for my locale which was high, especially compared to the local CoL. Now the most generous paying remote model assessing job I can find is $9/h. Foreign companies must have learned how to set the apt prices for poor countries.
>Seemingly unemployable for reasons unknown >Looking for shit to do to be productive and shitpost about on LinkedIn >Figure I'll get qualified in every DoD 8140 role >Find out a bunch of them are locked behind websites you need a CAC for fuck, yet another reason I should have joined the Reserve after I left active duty. Anyway I hold Advanced in 15 roles, and should expand that to 27 within a month or so. This is all a joke anyway, my time would be better spent playing videogames and then blowing my brains out.
>>108288669Just become a runescape gold seller brah youll make more money >>108291818For me its working out. Vidya is piss boring now. Everything is being handcrafted to appease these same useless fuck normies that make the tech industry what it is today
>>108284479Ooh okay, well it doesn’t really seem worth it desu, but if you want the experience, then that’s fine. It just seems like you’ll spend more than you gain
I just had an idea, let's all band together and create our own company, who is with me?
>>108292068I will make the slogan
I hate americans, you guys can always join the military meanwhile our military takes 3 years to call you back

>>108292143>im too old (30+) even though i can body 95% of the <30 y.o. population no contestI have made it my life mission to not be a resentful, delusional boomer retard once I get oldIt's all of you. Literally all of you. How the fuck is everyone over 30 so retarded and insufferable?

I see quite a few network engineer job listings where I'm at but don't really know much about it. Anyone knows how such jobs are like and what they do?
>Recruiter calls me >Hey, we got this opening for [some bullshit title] at [company I used to work for and hated] for the [biggest shitshow in the company] program Well I don't think I'll get this job, but if I do, fuck it I'll take it
>>108290117>You must be like 40 by now. How much do you make each month?Zero. I'm unemployed. That's why I'm in this thread.
>>108292662I did an interview a week ago, on Wednesday. The guy said, "We have one more person to interview, but you should have an answer by tomorrow at the latest." I got an email to schedule a second interview today. People with jobs are the laziest niggers on the planet.
>>108294081>People with jobs are the laziest niggers on the planet.Yes, they are.
>>108293448It's a very generic job title so it will depend a lot on the company. I would expect you to be putting servers and switches and firewalls into server racks, plugging in all the cables between each of them, and configuring the ports on the switches so everything works. Like all jobs, there will be lengthy instructions saying, "Type INT gi0/1/1 then type NO SHUTDOWN" that anybody on the planet could follow, but you would probably still need a load of qualifications that you only need so you can prove you're not a gigaretard. If it's not that, you'll probably be digging up roads and splicing fibre-optic cable for broadband providers.
>>108290184rat race + nerds have the need to feel superior because they were bullied all their life
>>108293448My last "network engineering" job was repetitive data collection on hundreds of sites using CDP neighbor. On day 2 i started trying to automate it and by day 14 it was doing my job and i basically did nothing for 2 years straight
>part time shift as a service worker at a wedding venue>boss tells me ill get paid 1.5x the usual rate today but i need to work 6 hours extra (10 am -> 12 am)>okay whatever>get here>it's another jewish weddingit's not even about the pay this time, these fuckers are all subhuman pieces of shit
Once I finally attain a job, I’ll finally be able to relax and enjoy my vidya…..Right, anons?
>>108294558Why are you asking us what it's like to be employed? LMAO
Ngl I'm considering looking into applying to nursing programs. They can make bank here in the US.
fuck you. I'm a liar. I don't have any experience. I told you I had 10 years but actually I don't have any. No I've never done any of this before. I've never seen any of this technology that you're asking me about. no I can't do it. thank you for your time jackass. I'll do this until I'm dead and then I'll kill myself. I'm the stupidest piece of shit you've ever had to waste your time on
>>108295011I could memorize how to spell the word "faggot" by typing it 10,000 times and then if you asked me to spell it in an interview I would just start throwing up and then punch you right in the face
just wasted all my free claude tokens because I was too lazy to read 50 loc I wrote a week ago (bug was a single line) and now I have to wait 5 hours award>claude didnt catch it either
>>108295018why don't you just give it more of your money? don't you have a job
>>108295027>don't you have a jobthis is the unemployed general
>>108294928The medical field seems to be the only one doing well, I don't want to take care of lives though, too much pressure.
The pro's of getting fired:>Wasn't happy at old job. Offered little/no upward mobility, was in-office 5 days a week with a shitty commute, didn't like my coworkers, etc. Now I have all the time I could ever want to seek out better opportunities.
>>108294928LMAO have fun
>Trying to explain to the hiring manager that my security clearance isn't expired and top secrets don't magically downgrade to secret anymore and if their FSO is seriously telling them this he should be fired for being half a decade behind on clearance processes
>>108295084How'd you get a security clearance? I'm in the DC area and half the tech jobs here require one. Shit sucks ass.
>Oh a 400 page book on LPI Linux Essentials >no problem I'll know that out in two afternoonsbros I'm worried this college thing is turning me into a fucking dweeb
>>108295105I joined the Air Force. My AFSC gave me top secret and my first unit upgraded that to TS/SCI, and then I just barely got screwed out of getting a CI poly, which I am still upset about. I recommend the Guard/Reserve to pretty much anyone who isn't making high six-figures, and active duty to anyone who is going nowhere in life (which is basically everyone in this job market).
