To my understanding C is their "all-rounder" model, K is their mostly deprecated original models, V is their successor to the K series, and Q is their metal shell boards. You'd probably be better served by C1 8K or C3 8K just because they're newer models if nothing else; K series boards are so old that RGB and hotswap were variable features on them because hotswap was pretty new to the market and nobody was quite sure if RGB effects would take off.

t. just opened one using picrel to prove to myself it could be done. Just find one of the four clamps that will stay open after lifting it, open the other without causing the first to re-latch, then flip it around and do the same on the other side while using some pressure from your finger to keep the open side from closing.

If you have kailh/outemu-style switches it's even easier, you can open a switch with your thumbnail alone

Would a Keychron C1 Pro 8K with the default red switches be as quiet as my current cherry stream keyboard?
I just need something that's not too distracting when I do video calls on my ipad which my cherry is good enough for, but it's impossible to tell how loud the keychron is from sound tests because of how variable everyone's mic setup is. Like in some videos it sounds loud as shit, but in others it's pretty quiet.

What are the HARDEST clicky tactile switches? I've read about cherry mx grays, but can't find them and they don't appear to allow for south facing LEDs. I've also read good things about Kailh Speed Navy's but its the same story, can't find em. I have some gateron greens coming in on amazon towards end of month, but could be as late as mid-April.

Any suggestions on the hardest clickiest most tactile switches? Currently running gateron blues, which are good, but I'd like more stiffness/resistance

Current work keyboard is a low profile membrane keyboard. I don't need RGB, macros, rotary knobs, wireless, hotswap switches, or any other gimmicks. I just need a keyboard suitable for emails, spreadsheets, and recording case notes for 8 hours a day. Detachable cable would be nice, but not essential. I work from home, so I'm not concerned about sound.
Current personal keyboard is a Shenzhen Special I've had for 6 years. The stem is black, and have a linear feel, so could be MX Black knockoffs. Crap, but it works. My keyboard before that was a Razer Blackwidow with Razer Greens. Most of the switches died within a year of the warranty ending.

Just spent hours delubing some Gateron Khonsu linears that felt sluggish, relubing a few select spots with 107 just to make sure the switch is moving well. At the end of all that work they still don't feel snappy enough because Gateron tightened the fit too much between the stem and the top housing. And their sound is weird as fuck when you really pay attention to it. At first I thought they were pleasantly high-pitch clacky but I'm starting to think they are more like polycarbonate clacky, or Gateron Ink clacky. They say it's modified POM and it definitely has that thin POM sound

"MX Blacks only" is one of those lessons you get to learn over and over again.

Asked for a qmk keyboard + silent switches a while back, and promised to give a review when everything arrived. Got a Keychron Q1 qmk, Outemu silent peach linear switches, and MDA profile tacky blue shinethrough keycaps.

The keyboard weighs a ton, angle is nice (~5 deg), via app on loonix works. Build quality is nice, everything fits BUT the retards didn't assemble the stabilizers correctly, driving me nuts cause left shift, enter, and backspace were stuck, destroyed two switches in the process of figuring it out, finally opened up the keyboard and wala now it works as inteded.

The switches feel nice, they are relatively silent and have a softer bottoming out thanks to the silicone silencers inside. There is a ticky noise though, but a it sounds good imo, on the beginning of the downstroke. They are very cheap (~ 16$ for 110 pieces) so if you want silent switches try them. I also like that the travel is only 3.3mm, always hated Cherry blacks cause of the 4mm travel.

The MDA profile keycaps are nice. Would have prefered blanck, but wasn't available with MDA on ali. Cost was 13$, they're from Womier. You can feel the letters, gives some grip, would have prefered only shiny but what can you do.

Need to work more with the keeb for a better review, but so far most thinks are either ok or good to very good. Biggest con was the stabilizer problem, but I fixed it. And the spacebar sounds kind of cheap/plasticy-pingy. Overall price was 85 Euro / 97 Dollaritos, not too bad.

got a ps/2 to usb adapter and played around with the kinesis. I also have a glove80 with cherry blossoms and it's obvious that the glove is better. typing on the glove is easier and faster.

Geon still has the small bump raw silents (mx brown-style), Thockking has $1.40/switch lubed Lucy V4s and until very recently still had stock ones (no more, alas). Chosfox has Summer Lime speed switches manufactured by Lichicx.

As you can tell from some of my typos my A key has started pressing multiple times on occasion. As far aasa I can tell, my current keyboard is not hot-swappable, otherwise I would have just switched the A switch for a less used one.
So aside from everything above I would either like a super-durable keyboard (I was reading about halal-effect keys eaarlier) or a hot-swaappable one
