I really don't get the appeal of Usenet... I'm on in and omg and I don't think they really have any content that isn't also on cabal/BIS trackers. I have noticed that once in a while they get scene releases faster than the trackers so they could be good resources for racers but otherwise they seem like a waste of time.

Usenet fee + power user donation fee (all indexers are practically unusable with the free tier API hits) + the time/effort investment of ranking up on trackers to even get invited to endgame indexers and after all of that you aren't even getting anything better than the tracker you applied from.

What's the point?

Using RED/OPS as a guide for what to search for is the best, most intuitive way to get things. If you immediately know what version is worth getting and can find it that saves time and effort. But if that's not an option you can do things in another way.

https://logs.musichoarders.xyz/ serves as a public log checker. If it scores 100% and this thing says it can't be trumped on OPS you know you got a good rip. If something has a perfect log but no checksum use cuetools to verify it yourself. If it says everything is good and ctdb/accurip matches who fucking cares if RED/OPS says the rip is trumpable? Provided it has multiple matches from people who ripped the same discs it's very safe to assume it's legit. You just want to be sure every other setting is proper too.

There are also edge cases like the rip of the EMI black triangle version of Iron Maiden - Powerslave that is floating around. Scores 100% on RED/OPS but one track does not actually match accurip/ctdb. Cuetools is able to repair it.

I have mine set to 120 minutes which I think is the default.
More importantly (to me) I have the setting enabled to search on torrent completion, so any time you download anything it will immediately add all found cross seeds.

When you get to the front of the queue you have no fucking idea what's gonna happen, you can instantly get an interview, or you can be unlucky enough to wait there for hours and hours. You can't afk or go to sleep, they only give you a few minutes to say you're ready, if you miss it too fucking bad.

If you're new to all of this, don't give up.
The journey between interview queue and reaching PU on RED is terrible and completely designed to make the average guy give up, or make mistakes along the way and get banned, but once you reach it and you gain access to other trackers, things get MUCH better.

Just for any other neons in this thread reading this, I will say from all of my interactions staff have been very reasonable when it comes to noobs uploading things. I am high ranking on 4 or 5 different trackers and have made plenty of mistakes uploading on all of them, but I have never once received a warning because I never make the same mistake twice and always act cordial with staff members. If you don't act like a jackass they won't treat you like one.

BTN for all TV, HDB for all movies that can be had from there since the economy is easier, then any remaining movies from PTP. Cabal trackers floods you with invites you can never use, since there's always a risk that this person will make mistakes, get cabal banned and make you get banned as well. It can take 1, 2, 5 years but someone you invited can and will give you problems eventually
