>>108327317Just works. I don't bother with anything else.
>>108327317It was okay for decades but nowadays too much software simply does not work without a real compositor especially given the rounded corners trend.
>>108327317>thoughts on dwmI like the way it looks, but I prefer xmonad w/ dmenu & xmobar.
>>108327317the poor man's EXWM
>>108327419like what?
Just use GNOME. It's comfy
>>108327468>javscript shell using up 5x the resources of the entirety of dwm + Xyuck
>>108327317Need age verification asap.
>>108327419Retard wayland alert. The compositor is not the job of dwm, that's for now brace yourself.. a compositor.. like all x11 window managers.
>>108327460both web browsers.>>108327509then it's not suckless.
>>108327419There’s literally nothing it doesn’t work with. Also X11 supports round windows since probably the 80s or early 90s with oclock.
>>108327544You are actually a clueless retard and have very clearly never used dwm, it has zero issue whatsoever with picom or with rendering rounded windows. Dilate.
>>108327438> xmonadDwm has monad mode: Alt+M
>>108327544i use firefox with dwm and nothing is wrong with it
>>108327572It's very likely the set of people who have used dwm without a compositor is a strict superset of the set of people who have used dwm with a compositor. You're just german.
>>108327317don't give a shit about the suckless philosophy but I appreciate how fast and light it runs. the fact my patched build from 10 years ago will still run without issues nowadays is also a plus in my book.
>>108327679>the suckless philosophyIsn't this just ``quality made lightweight software that does what it is supposed to do very well and nothing more''? I appreciate that, but if there is more to it than that I also don't give a shit ;3
>>108327692pretty much yes and stop using that gay backtick queerbait
>>108327647You can run wayland in an X window when you want screen tearing, bad performance, rounded rectangles, and blurry text and graphics.… that’s wayland was developed… in an X window, and it actually works best like that.
>>108327708>and stopNo.
>>108327692>qualitysubjective, though I'd argue most of their projects are indeed quite good>lightweightsuckless is very stuck on >more LoC == shit codewhich limits both functionality and optimization potential, I've barely ever seen anyone who uses barebones dwm or st, and performance-wise it matches most other WM environments if not limited by low specs. complexity is a natural part of software development, and ignoring it is simply a blanket solution.I appreciate what dwm and other suckless projects do, don't get me wrong. but the moment I run into a random issue in dwm or want to add some functionality that isn't already available as a patch I'd fucking groan. I spent the entire weekend wondering why one of my programs, which interacts within a window's content, was refusing to work. the fix in the end was altering the way dwm interacts with _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW requests, which there is a patch for, but said patch did not work when applied before another patch (I still have no fucking idea which, it just worked eventually).I fucking love this environment and I know it won't break randomly on me, but the moment some new usecase arises I just know I'm going to have to spend hours on it where something like i3 would just work for maybe a 1-2% resource/performance hit. I'm just autistic enough to accept that trade-off.
>>108327860Thanks for sharing your opinion, stranger.
>>108327544>both web browsersI've used everything down to Zen which has rounded EVERYTHING on uncomposited X11 desktops and they're always just squared out properly. What exactly is the issue?
>>108327860i use a bare dwm. the issue youre describing, while true for most, is not an issue to the people suckless and openbsd software are aimed at, it's like integral to their enjoyment of it.
>>108327884no prob
>>108327885There is no issue. I've used it for 10 years without a single issue rendering anything.
>>108327317cuck license
>>108327317i just switched to sway today actually.
>>108328032sway gay
>>108328032based
>>1083280322 tabs open and foot open = 5gb ram usage with an uptime only of 37 minutes wtf nigga...
>>108328371sway has dynamic workspaces, there's most likely shit open in the other ones my dude
>>108328032It's a solid choice, I always gravitate to tabs over stacks but it's one of my favorite features over a traditional stacking compositor.>>108328371He has 4 active workspaces.
>>108328379he only has 2 windows open on workspace 1 and 1 is for fastfetch i really doubt it. every sway screenshot ive seen has high memory usage also saying my dude is trans coded
>>108328371another browser window with a few tabs and codium with a webapp running in workspace 4, steam, and dicksword on 2 and 3.>>108328391im running vs codium on that workspace too, its just tabbed with the fastfetch terminal.>>108328359its honestly comfy. not much jank besides waybar having special needs with my 2nd monitor. spent the whole day just theming everything. very smooth.>>108328216or so I've heard.
>>108328511>waybar having special needs with my 2nd monitorWould you elaborate on this, please?
>>108328386it has so many options that you can actually access by default, and all of them are ones you would want to use. its great. I loved dwm, but this is obviously superior in function for my usage.>>108328526it was overlaying from my CRT to my main monitor, making everything unreadable. set different bars for each with tweaked styling to make it work.
>>108328391Does it make you irrationally angry when you see people using their RAM without "having the windows open for you to see"?
>>108328543>different bars for eachNice. I needed a similar solution for my 2nd & 3rd monitor for xmobar.
