Does your computer run better if you leave all the bullshit it ships with instead of reformatting and completely reimaging it? Is it preconfigured in such a way that by wiping it you lose that?
>>
What? No.
Just re-install necessary drivers.

the only thing that works better out of the box is the corporate spyware

grab the windows key, format it with Linux, and sell the key on ebay

>using the storage that came with your laptop at all
asking to get raped by spooks desu

>no no MY storage totally isn’t compromised :)

He seems like someone who wants to actually do shit with his computer, so probably won't be installing a hobby os.

>paying for Windows

I'm a whore for this platform but I haven't paid for a Windows key since the Windows 7 days when I discovered Daz's activator.

As an addendum I'm actually somewhat saddened that I'm playing straight into MS's hand.

The fact they're so blase about fighting piracy means they'd rather play the long game by having you in the ecosystem than to try to crack down on improperly licensed copies of Windows. There's much more to gain by letting people use the OS freely without paying than by demanding they pay the entry fee in the first place.

I'm aware of this, I live under no illusions of "getting away" with anything, but the utility of Windows is too great for how I use a PC.

Yes and if you turn on all the telemetry options it will run even better

>reformating
There might be a hidden recovery+drivers partition so not always the smartest thing to do.
>oobe crap
depends. HP leaves a lot of AI shit nowadays. But Lenovo Commercial (red) Vantage is legit, same with stuff like ASUS Armory Crate, Alienware CC. Unless reverse engineered those really are best ways to control some lower level functions of a laptop.

Always reinstall! Your CPU is already backdoored and your OS (probably running winjeet, right?) you don't want to risk another software backdoor/malware/spyware.

It's never "hidden", you can clearly see it on the partition map.

These days, especially for laptops, if you want easy-peasy driver updates you can just download an application from the OEM and let it scan for things it wants to install. That's just as good as restoring from an integrated recovery partition.

Fuck no.
I got this used Elitebook a few years ago, that had Win10 on it. It was fucking sluggish and generally uncomfortable.

I nuked the HDD, installed W7 Ultimate... and life was instantly improved ten-fold.

Hidden means without a drive letter, invisible in explorer, obviousely it does exist so diskmgmt and diskpart will see it, what are you on niba?
>>
>>108330282
your bios settings make more of a impact than windows bloat. if your bios menu is laggy from the start then it will be laggy in windows too.
>>
>>108331451
Well you made it sound like it was completely inaccessible unless you boot into it. I've seen that in the past (particularly I think Dells).
>>
>>108331490
Ohh, those, are something else, partition table fuckery, compaq diagnostic on early thinkpads. dd can still touch those
