Firefox just announced that they are extending Windows 7 support yet again. Despite originally pledging to drop support in 2024 they have now announced yet another 6 month extension and will probably extend after that to 2027 or even match Windows 10 LTSCs support timeline. This gives Windows 7 users an unprecedented 7 years post EOL support.Despite being only 0.7% of Windows users they comprise 5% of Firefox users which are now becoming very lucrative to Mozilla as Windows 7 users are captive to Firefox as they are the only mainstream browser left in town. Despite recommending Linux upgrades it looks like RAM price increases have prevented people from buying new computers forcing them to keep using their ewaste Windows 7 computers and using Firefox. It will be very interesting to see how long the can will be kicked, will we see Windows 7 users in the 2030s?

>>108339135Well, Firefox is shit, so it doesn't really matter much.
>>108339135>will we see Windows 7 users in the 2030sAs long as there's schizophrenia, there will be fucking XP users in the 2030s along with the 7 users going out of their way to drag unsupported software into the future.

>>108342112You'll own nothing and be happy. These are strategic supply shortages and price increases combined with the more overt laws being written to require age verification for all operating systems, with the end goal to control all computing devices like the ATF controls firearms.

>>108346715Why don't they get those motherfuckers used to using an ubuntu based distro, so that their life doesn't go sideways when their old ass computer dies. and they can't load 7 on a new one?
>>108339135>Windows 7 users are captive to Firefox as they are the only mainstream browser left in townVery important information. Posting from my win 7 with vivaldi though. Guess it isn't a mainstream browser then. It does get a tad slow at times, but then again I tend to have several hundred tabs open always. The "hibernated backround tabs" function helps

Every windows 7 user is probably a nostalgiajak There would be a picrel but I'm not verifying my email
>>108347658They have to be, Windows 7 came out when I was a teenager, loved the times with it, but I wouldn't spend any effort at all trying to keep using it, it made more sense to get a better computer where you could at least get an up to date Linux that would deliver a good experience going foward into the future, with newer computers, up to date open source software, etc.
>>108339135>Despite recommending Linux upgrades it looks like RAM price increases have prevented people from buying new computers forcing them to keep using their ewaste Windows 7 computers and using Firefox. Can't you just run Linux on those ewaste Windows 7 computers?
>>108347707Yes, my main laptop is a dual core 2013 Ivy bridge piece of shit with 16GB of RAM stuffed in it, and my HTPC is an FX-8350 with Mint on it, total e-waste computers, but they still get around fine, the 8350 likes Linux better than 7 because 7's kernel has no clue how to use an AMD FX processor, that's why having up to doot software can be a good thing.
7-zip still supports Windows 2000. Why can't Firefox?
>>108347658My windows experience goes from 3.1 -> 95 -> 98SE -> XP -> XP64 -> 7. I don't have any particular nostalgia for 7, but it is the last windows that seemed like a straight upgrade from the previous one. Win 10 had some forced update & telemetry fuckery iirc when it came out, but I think it's usable now. I got this computer in 2019, and installed 7 due to an annoying legacy project I was working on. The project is over now, but I just haven't had a reason to upgrade, and now that win 10 is eol, I probably won't. Win 11 seems abhorrent in it's current state, and I have doubts that microslop can unfuck it sufficiently for regain my faithAll the software I need still work just fine. Mozilla based browsers work, and Vivaldi works. Even still Steam works, even though they were implying it would stop working quite a while ago. VxKex exists, though I can't remember if I've actually needed it for anything yet
>>108347658Windows 11 requires email verification in order to send a picrel to 4chin? Grim
>>108339135>upgrades it looks like RAM price increases have prevented people from buying new computers forcing them to keep using their ewaste Windows 7 computers and using Firefox. If someone in 2026 is still using Windows 7, the RAM prices aren't the problem
>>108348283>If someone in 2026 is still using Windows 7, the RAM prices aren't the problemThat's correct. Windows 8, 10 and 11 are.
>>108347734it does know if you update the scheduler and install something like park control so it gets the right power profile. my fx8350 is in 10 now. i'll jump to linux later.
>>108348023reaper supports windowsxpthe issue is that "new" heavily relies on 3rd party bullshit that updates and doesn't care about old versions of your OS. is more work for them to port s shit back. they don't have the money or time to do it. they need to pay more to the CEO
>>108348976Based fellow 8350 user, I did have the hotfix for 7 to park the cores, but Windows 10 seemed to run way better than 7 on my 8350 when the chrome support ran out, it just seemed like Windows 8 onward and FX processors were a match made in heaven, I really regret not running Linux on my 8350 from jump street, would've just been using an ever evolving kernel instead of one stuck in 2009, but whatever.
>>108348283Funnily enough RAM prices are a sort of a problem for my upgrade aspirations. I've been waiting for Intel to launch their granite rapids workstation chips to see if they can compete with threadrippers. I was planning to build a ~32 core workstation with whatever is fastest in my application. Well now granite rapids ws is out, but it's moot, because I ain't paying the current RAM prices. Not unless my workload changes to something that I can't get done with my current setup. I wouldn't put win 7 in the new machine

>>108349528Windows 7 is not like XP you stupid moron. There are far more malware targeting Windows 11 because backdoors in Windows 7 got fixed. That is why there was a massive push to move into Windows 10.
