Nope. No such thing.

What is yo be done about all the arch shitters and retards? Everyone who uses it or it's derivatives is a fucking moron and they shit up every single Linux community with their retardation.
We need a final solution

When I did my thermal paste there was a little wee chip which had putty on it that I didn't know about, so I just put paste on it because who gives a shit, the gap was pretty small anyway so I'm sure it's fine. Now I am seeing mixed answers, some people say NEVER use paste to replace putty because blah blah blah, some people say its fine. So which is it? Am I cooked? Brought temps down by a measly 5 degrees or so but whatever, better than nothing.

Gnome system monitor. What on earth is using 36.4gb of ram while shitposting? You're not using Chrome are you?

thanks anon. i wonder why it shows me as having 135gb of ram instead of 128. i really hope it's not counting cache

GB vs GiB brudda.

What the fuck are you doing man haha why is your CPU going nuts like that?

I prefer 'Resources' because it also shows apps separate from processes, and it has GPU information and some other cool stuff so maybe look into that. It didn't always show all the apps I had running which was a bit irritating but other than that it worked really well, it's a bit more heavy than the others too but nothing too strenuous for your $200,000 worth of ram.

add the cache and you're quite exactly at 128gb.

close, but...
>135GB + 8GB = 143 GB = 133.2 GiB
i don't think the cache is included. it's probably reserved for something else (though I don't have onboard video)
>>
>>108344527
>>108344535
But this is a little weird actually because ram is sold in GB units not GiB. So it seems odd that he would think he had 128GB when he really has 128GiB, how could he make that mistake?

>But this is a little weird actually because ram is sold in GB units not GiB.
are you sure about that? it certainly seems to me that's it's sold in gib. i know the industry as a whole has trouble conflating gib with gb.
>>
>>108344556
>ram is sold in GB units not GiB
incorrect, ram is sold in GiB units, whether it's actually printed like that is another story, but ram chips themselves are always produced in power-of-two units
>>
>>108344595
>>108344593
>>108344556
RAM is advertised as "GB" but is actually GiB
so if you buy 128"GB"
>you should be getting 128*(1000)^3 bytes
>you are actually getting 128*(1024)^3 bytes
So your 128"GB" ram is actually 128 gibibytes which is about 137.4 gigabytes
>>
>>108344599
exactly, unfortunately this probably won't change as altering advertising to say GiB may confuse people who don't know, and only really satisfies people who already know. it's just easier to keep things as they are

Any particularly huge downsides to flatpaks? So far I've been using pacman or octopi.
I want to install bottles and on their official website they recommend using the flatpak, I guess if the developer has a preferred way to install I should use that?

>>108344621
i don't know why the preference is separated either, probably because it's a 20 years old app.
>>
>>108344623
The main downside to Flatpak is that they have a quite initially high storage cost because of the amount of general dependencies they download when it comes the UI/libraries that program uses. Like you'll have a set for GTK ones and Qt/KDE ones. But after the initial bump, Flatpak can be pretty useful for certain things.

Thanks for the info, anon. That doesn't sound too bad :)
>>
>>108344630
typically ram uses base-2, and networks use base-10, though unless you're doing actual networking work, it's more convenient to measure that in base-2 for consistency

>>
>>108344649
>yeah these defaults are fucked
those are the preferences, which are literally the opposite of defaults.
>>
>>108344644
only storage is consistently measured using base-10, though an interesting point regarding ssd's and other flash media is that the flash chips themselves are produced in power-of-two increments like ram as well, this is why you see suspiciously familiar ssd sizes like "120GB" and "250GB", which actually contain 128GiB/256GiB worth of flash chips, just with some space reserved for internal use and reserved sectors
>>
>>108344656
the default preferences are to show memory in base 10 and network speed in MiB/GiB instead of Mbit/Gbit, which is retarded
>>
You guys should really switch to Resources, only reason not to is he is a hungry boy but it runs fine on my old as hell thinkpad so whatever.
>>
>>108344672
>has only 1 preference to change between gib and gb
yeah that's more reasonable and what i'd expect, i don't like the sidepanel ui so i'll probably stick with system monitor and htop.
