>technology becomes ten times faster
>it only leads to running 9001 times slower python and java apps vibe coded by talentless web devs effectively making everything run slower than before
What went wrong?

nested abstractions

>technology becomes ten times faster
already wrong

it's crazy to think how how efficient things were or how inefficient they are now
like just opening up a youtube page now uses more ram than my computers had in total up until 2006 (just the tab itself)

>>108344824
he didn't specify a timeframe so i'm not sure how he can possibly be "wrong"
my current cpu is 10x faster than the one i had as late as 2017

Many programmers are trash but users also want more and more shiny features.

The use of "vibe code" specifies a timeframe
>>
>>108344861
lmao
>>
>>108344729
surely it's not because modern software has a lot more functionality than it used to
>>
>>108345263
for the most part, not really. if anything there has been a trend to reduce the number of user-facing features in software over time
>>
>>108344729
good times create weak men
Software, mostly proprietary, is too comfortable with how Moore's Law works on hardware, so they write bad programs without worrying about performance
open source software does not have this problem
>>
>>108345263
Yeah it might be a worse user experience with less functionality and fewer buttons but at least it pings NSA and Israel after every keystroke. THAT'S what's important for progress.

such as?
>>

It only sets a lower bound for its length. The "before" he refers to could be the 80s
