It's dead, Jim.
id argue it was never alive
i expect many jeets to come in and defend this c# javasar over something like unreal with cpp

>>108344871It's unreal how hard Americans seethe at India 24/7. It's just really funny to me.In before I get called a jeet. Yes I know that was your first reflex, and you will probably give in to it.
i never did get the hate for unity. not much of a gamedev but it was straightforward to put together a 3d scene at >60fps. i feel like a lot of the hate game engines get is, its so easy to inadvertently write code that destroys and re-constructs 3d objects on every single frame, which is where most perf degradation comes from - silly stuff like that. you need to understand the rules by which the game engine itself operates to ensure you're not causing the engine to copy something, or re-create something uselessly, or do some re-scaling, etc.i suppose its a tragedy of the commons: in the pursuit of making a tool as accessible as possible, you bend over backwards for the inexperienced coder: "Oh, a texture with the wrong format - let me autoconvert that, oh and rescae it too... oh and here it needs to be copied to provide this guarantee..." - now everyone says your engine is slow and buggy and janky.a lot of software is actually quite good, but requires a little thinking on the part of the user to make it work. i enjoyed using Unity, and i thought it was quite impressive that I could, with the switch of a drop-down menu, go from a PC game to a static asset browser game that I could serve from a cloudflare bucket with brotli compression. that was like, wow. and it Just Worked.
>>108345582It's unreal how hard humans seethe at poo 24/7. It's just really funny to me. In before I get called turd. Yes, I know that was your first realization, and you were correct about it.
>>108345875See, this is exactly what I mean. I guess you do think about poop all day.
>>108345372They started trying to take royalties on all games made with the software. It would be like logic or protools demanding royalties on songs made in their software. Or final cut pro or adobe premier doing the same with movies, tv, youtube videos made in their software.
>>108346201Again?
>>108344943>raylibreal men use SDL, which is faster than raylib.>>108345582nobody cares, rajeesh shitinthestreet. you've been posting the same unhinged shit for weeks. are you and the rest of the pedophiles on discord trying to do some kind of raid in defense of one of the most corrupt countries on earth? clearly isn't working out well for you pathetic losers.
heh

>>108346409I suppose the OP post actually refers to your brain, which is why you're spamming /g/ about poop.
>>108344770for gamedev maybethe majority of its revenue comes from bespoke corpo "experience" crap. architectural firms building 3d simulated walkthroughs of their project visions, stuff like that.
>>108345582>It's unreal how hard Americans seethe at India 24/7.Wouldn't have to be seething if the fuckin Limeys would have just left the subcontinent corked. But noooooooooooo ya just had to open that bottle of poo and let it loose on the world. If you're name is Ian or Nigel or Graham go fuck yourself.
>>108345582This. I find lots of memes about India funny but we've gotten to a point where it's just brainless seething. It's as low effort as Indian intagram comments under random women's posts.
>>108344770I think Unity is neat. Just imagining the amount of engineering that goes into something like that, that's not only intended to just work across all platforms but also create builds for all platforms. Even Microsoft's Visual Studio could only get the "create builds for all platforms" part. Not only that but it mostly just works and the user almost never has to think about the target platform. They just select the target in a dropdown list and click Build. Granted, Unity has gotten too big for its britches. And the company who owns it is scummy. This is software that I would like to see liberated and open sourced. Who knows, it could happen. Crazier things have happened. >>108346235>SDLEh kinda. There is not the same level of abstraction as you get with raylib. You are basically doing full graphics programming at that point, unless all you want to do is draw basic sprites with no/minimal effects. But yeah I agree SDL is the better choice since it's more industry standard and battle tested, has better documentation and support too and isn't just one guy named Ray complaining on twitter that he can't afford to keep working on it for free lol.
>>108344930I'm learning godot, it's pretty comfy for building indie games fr fr, although probably not robust enough for large 3d games.
>>108346201Unity has always done that, and Unreal does the same thing too. You might be thinking of what they tried last year with making the methodology of their royalty payments extremely stupid. (Like charging per download)I'm assuming what OP is talking about is more about how a bunch of Unity Store assets are getting nuked for one reason or another. I don't actually know why or care to know why since I make everything myself. But I heard a lot of people freaking out over it.
>>108344770>Proclaim they actually own everything ever made on the engine no taksies backsies it's in the EULA you own nothing>Engine diesHOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?!!!?
>>108346639>Unity has always done that, and Unreal does the same thing too. The scale is way, way, way different. Unreal doesn't request licenses until you cross some ridiculous threshold like a million in sales. If you're making over a million dollars in sales, it's hard to describe you as Indie.Unity was pushing this bullshit which was basically "You made something more widespread than a tech demo? Where's our cut, bitch?". The lower limit was $100,000 and was suggested to be $50,000 at one pointhttps://www.polygon.com/23870247/unity-engine-pricing-model-install-fee/And then they walked it all back and said "no no no no no no no we're sorry we're sorry we'll make it $200,000 instead (they didn't use to have one for personal use at all)" but it was too late, the damage was done, you don't violate people's trust like that and just expect people to just come back in waves. Especially when Unity wasn't the dominant engine in the first place, it was always fighting for the #2 spot with Godot. Another case of FAFO
>>108346639>I'm assuming what OP is talking about is more about how a bunch of Unity Store assets are getting nuked for one reason or another. I don't actually know why or care to know why since I make everything myself. But I heard a lot of people freaking out over it.It's the AI purge, right now. AI can't be copywritten by law, so much of it is getting deleted since the cool new thing is to take asset packs, have AI modify it a bit, and then re-upload them. But if people buy the packs, they don't know which are which. So suddenly an entire asset pack they bought from the store can just vanish and it's for reasons not told to them or they're able to find out before it vanishes because it looks legit to them.
It's okay, there's also Monogame.
wish gayben would finish source 2 already

>>108346477I agree. I think Indians are very over-hated on here and Indians in general are actually pretty cool.

>>108345582it's understandable if you've ever been part of any type of culture, community, hobby, etc that has been decimated by them. But you haven't, so you don't.
>>108346683>Especially when Unity wasn't the dominant engine in the first place, it was always fighting for the #2 spot with Godot. In terms of games made and units sold unity far outpaces both unreal and Godot. It wasn't until recently that Godot started eating unity's lunch and that only a few croutons from the salad.
