just got a trashcan, is it still useful in the big 2026
>>108349137>198 watts idlingnah
>>108349137Was it useful when it released? I remember hearing it had horrible air flow
>>108349137Hell yeah it's not the most efficient thing but it still fucks if you got it cheap enough.
>>108350601i got it out of a trashcan
>>1083491378 cores should be enough for everyone.
>>108351534each invididual core is not that good doe
>>108351539Still pretty good for basic computer use and the 16 threads will be used, it never was a gaming machine even back then.
>>108349137notOP, but how much use was/is a trashcan gfx upgrade, D500 to dual, or D700 or whatever. I know its 3GB v 6GB, just is there any purpose tho, like does anyone still do video editing on these?
>>108349137You can use it for AI. The dual GPU will support Vulkan if you install Linux and activate the experimental drivers. From there you are just a quick compilation of llama.CPP away. You could also max out the RAM, officially 64gb but it will work with 128 only at a slower speed. My trashcan was one of my.favorite e-waste purchases. It makes a great everyday workstation and ita fun to try and push it well beyond its limits. You van run MacOS if you want. I know it will run Sonoma with little issue but I never did try Tahoe. Although I think it makes a better Linux machine especially if you decide to rock Window Maker in honor of NeXTRegardless have fun anon. Never forgot that is the important part. One should relax and try to have fun.
>>108349137>MontereyNo.
>>108351615The upgrade is not worth it. If you must use the trashcan and need better graphics your best bet is a externalities GPU enclosure. You can hook one up to the Thunderbolt 2 ports. But to be honest trying to get better graphics out of it is just a waste of money. It would be better to buy a tiny 1366x768 screen and just play Quake 3 at that resolutions if you must game.
>>108349137>2013>haswell just came out>trashcan mac has sandy bridge based xeon inside (two generations behind, no avx2 etc.)it was outdated at the release date
You can install Linux (or Win10 LTSC IoT) and then you have a laptop that should serve all possible mobile computing needs. In before some retard who doesn't own a desktop posts some usecase he should do on his desktop. In before "whaaa 4 hour battery life" from someone who has never spend 4 hours away from an outlet in their life besides on a plane, where you can bring a power bank.
>>108349137>still usefulnever was
>>108349137>the big 2026kys yourself
>>108349137It's insane how trash Apple hardware was, and how insanely good it now is.
The Trash Pro was never useful. You'd better have a laptop cooling pad under that thing or its days are numbered.>>108351615For longevity purposes, it's actually recommended to get the low-end model with the weakest graphics card since it's least likely to fail.
>>108352243Hard to believe they sold that bitch until 2019 too, Selling AMD FX from late 2011 to early 2017 was like holy shit, but it wasn't a workstation computer.
