That orientation only makes sense if you have ample airflow so the case can suck the hot air out the top/back, and have intakes on the bottom to help it out. The up side is that they have shorter grille lengths and more "exhausts" on the side by the length of the card, so they are more efficient as hot air does not have to travel the entire length of the card.On your pic there's nothing to pull the hot air out at the top so it just sits there, with the bottom fans pushing it a tiny bit through the top grille.If you use a lower end card, those still have grilles set up length wise, so they vent on the back or the front of the card. Which means there's fewer venting holes but the heat exits at the PCIE slot (and at the front, unless you have some intake to provide pressure). This latter orientation is what the raven02 on your pic is designed for.Both methods suck though, what we'd need is a radically new form factor. Honestly it would make more sense to just have a large GPU socket of a sort instead of PCIE connectors, so you can put tower coolers there.
