It looks like Apple is pricing in the risk of (inevitable) Eurofines. Probably for bundling Safari
>>
why are half of the posts on this board lately about a fucking apple laptop
is there genuinely nothing more interesting going on in the world technologically speaking than a fucking laptop
>>
>>108355576
it's either that or ai slop, you choose, literally nothing else is habbening
>>
>>108355576
There really isn't bro if you haven't seen nobody is launching shit because muh ram and there's been nothing outside of "openclaw fucked my ass after I told it to fuck my ass" ai posts
>>
>>108355576
no one else can afford to launch products right now except Nvidia and Apple
>>
>>108355576
It's a 599 USD Apple laptop that runs the best operating system, macOS. Why wouldn't we be excited about it? Never before it has been so cheap to get the best OS.
>>
>>108355514
The price is $600 in the US. Add your VAT, extra warranty and there you have your price.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.
>>
>>108355548
You are including the student discount which isn't included in this price. The price is pretty much exactly the same as in the US. The US just doesn't include vat in the advertised price and vat is generally lower, nothing apple can control. The price is fair. If you want to complain, go to your government.
>>
>>108355617
Pretty sure you can download the OS for free from apple.com
>>
>>108355617
sorry but I honestly don't get it
I agree that mac is a great OS but this device is specced to be a literal browser launcher, why does the OS matter?
have we reached the absolute state where we're drooling over the Apple logo like normgroids?
>>
>>108355514
>those specs
is this 2014?
>>
>>108355793
It's a limit of the A18 Pro chip, the next year's will have A19 Pro, which has much more RAM. Regarding storage, Apple just doesn't want to cannibalize their MacBook Air sales.
>>
So why is this considered a good deal again?
This has worse specs than a 400€ laptop
>>
>>108355809
It has a good screen compared to most other cheap laptops, a fully aluminum body, identical keyboard to the keyboard in Air and Pro (except that it doesn't have a backlight), one of the best trackpads on the market

add 100€ and get M4 Air
neo not worth it at all

point still stands - worth for RAM upgrade itself, not counting other differences

>a fully aluminum body,
everyone is doing that, even cheap laptops

>identical keyboard to the keyboard in Air and Pro
so a fucking terrible keyboard
>best trackpads on the market
so it uses a different trackpad than the usual terrible Macbook trackpads?
>>
>>108355877
>everyone is doing that
What do you mean? I was looking at 500-600 USD laptops a few months ago and I didn't find anything aluminum.
>so it uses a different trackpad
Yes, actually, a worse one compared to their usual trackpads, it's a mechanical trackpad unlike a trackpad in every other current MacBook.
>usual terrible Macbook trackpads
In what way?! Pretty much everyone agrees that MacBook trackpads are good
>>
>>108355892
>What do you mean? I was looking at 500-600 USD laptops a few months ago and I didn't find anything aluminum.
The Galaxy Books are all full metal. The cheap fucking Acer Swift Light too. Even some Chromebooks like the Asus one.
>In what way?! Pretty much everyone agrees that MacBook trackpads are good
I absolutely loathe Macbook trackpads - they take forever to register a click.
They're also way too fucking big - there's more space reserved for the trackpad than the fucking keyboard
>>

its £599 - starting at - you disingenous shill wanker. Which is $800+. Wheres your '$499' now then, you lying fucking toerag?
Your '£499' - starting at - is student retard price. Which is $666, somewhat aptly for an 8GB tablet LARPing as a Chromebook.
>>
reminder that Americans earn way more, pay way less taxes, AND have lower costs of living they yuropoors
>>
>>108355936
lotta seething but I see £499
You not getting 499€? skill issue
>>
>>108355521
>>108355624
No, it's not "just tax".
See >>108355548, the school discount price is €700 ($806). Apple took €185 / $213 extra profit from EU students.
EU school discount requires proof while US doesnt and everyone uses it without being a student.
The normal $600 neo with 25% tax should be €650, it's €800.

So apple actually steals more profit from EU students than regular EU consumers, topkek.
>>108355571
They would have that problem either way (and the fines are tiny) so they aren't really relevant. But apple is probably angry about being cucked into giving everyone USB-c
>>
>>108355514
Garbage specs.
>>
>>108355514
Here is my ~200 € machine
Thats what you can get a 4/5700U book for

Mine is probably still worth more but I have 24 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD which I upgraded
That fact alone makes the Apple fag mad because he can't even on the high end
I'm thinking of selling the SSD, do you think I can get 250 for a Crucial P3 with the current market? I paid 50 for it so it would be worth the downgrade.

Device also has touch which was a must for me, most of the time I use it like a picture frame and bluetooth keyboard. So the non illiminated shit one does not matter. Its not high end, but instead it offers proper hardware.

they almost convinced me to move on from hackintosh but other than muh performace almost everything would be a downgrade from my 20 dollar ewaste laptop
>decent 1080p ips 13" matte screen
>decent backlit keyboard
>non-soldered ram
>non-soldered nvme storage
>hdmi port, ethernet port, 3x usb3.0 (2a 1c)
>microsd slot
>optional dell power jack if you don't want to hog the c port for charging
>not required to use liquid ass os

I only use this thing for boring business stuff and it's perfectly capable of that. Maybe when the soft touch rubber coating starts turning to goo in a few more years I'll consider a version 2 neo.
>>
>>108355868
I paid 30 € for a new 16 GB DDR4 module some years ago, even currently 200 is not justifiable.

Basically, think of the things that make California overly expensive/tedious

>high taxes
>high strangulatory regulations (basically 0 homebuilding)
>nanny state gov that rapes the working people to give back to themselves and their dependent pets

Now imagine an entire continent like this. Or Canada. This is their normal.

Probably any entry notebook has these, IPS isn't so nice but there was no affordable OLED with touch at the time I purchased

Having more than one USB port is a must, microSD should be default, power should be its own port not using the C
And x86, ARM may offer great battery but incompability, if ARM suffices maybe buy a cheap Android tablet right away
x86 can do 8-10 hours of battery for entry notebooks, its incredible how far technology has come my Vista book was 30-60 minutes, my i7-3610QM book about 2-3 hours max
This still has more than twice the performance and runs much cooler
And the iGPU is powerful enough to compete 2010s gaming notebooks so you can run light stuff like BF3 and 4 in reasonable way (medium 60 FPS).

macOS is a dumb operating system that doesn't make computing better.
>>
>>108356016
This is the regular price. Even on apple's own website it is €699. Without tax it is well under €600.

The student price is €599 including vat which is less than €500 excluding vat.

Still a bit more expensive than US but nowhere near of what you are claiming.
>>
what's the price in India? i want to know if they just sell cheaper than anywhere else in the US or if they just charge Europeans more
>>
>>108356013
its $666 (with tard discount) and Real Price $800+
where is '$499' here?
And why is your beloved fruitco telling Bongs to open their mouth while they take a shit in them?
>>
>>108355576
>is there genuinely nothing more interesting going on in the world technologically speaking than a fucking laptop
Correct. Every other news is about how how AI datacenters and the war in middle east are creating artificial scarcities of hardware, US bills lobbied by goolag and faceberg and made for the sole purpose of getting rid of your human rights, linux devs having meltdowns on internet over nothing, microsaar finding new ways to ruin windows, more thousands of workers being replaced with jeets and straight up /pol/ bait that has nothing to do with technology.
>>
>>108355514
They price in the future lawsuits of EU against Apple
>>
>>108355576
Because they literally made all the other laptops irrelevant with MacBook Neo.
