JUST RELEASE THE BAREBONES

I HAVE LAPTOP RAM

I HAVE SSDS

JUST RELEASE THE FUCKING KIT
>>
>>108355515
>please help a multi billion dollar corporation run by a fat wealthy retard
lmao no. fuck no.
>>
>>108355515
I'll just say I know for a fact that companies and DCs have been sending people out to retail stores to buy out their entire stocks. Some managers have said they can't do that but others have made the deals.
>>
>>108355515
Sorry OP but I'm still not using epic
>>
>>108355515

Other thread about this too good for you, OP?
>>

Where is my steam frame, GABEN??

My 2019 Valve index is getting dust under the lenses and the resolution is low for what others have in 2026
>>
>>108355515
just install steamos on a different ryzen mini pc if you want it that bad
they released the generic image like a year ago and it works fine for me
only minor annoyance was needing to dig out an old usb ethernet adapter so it could download drivers/firmware
>>
The real tragedy is that they still haven't released the controller. I'm med.
>>
>>108356181
Who is really gonna buy that shit
>>
>>108355789
This. Steam machine has no tangible benefit over building your own PC. With some second hand parts you're even going to get much better performance for the same price.

This is for normies that want a plug and play console. These people dont want to build half of the machine and install an OS to get it working.

The market for a barebones machine is basically zero. Also, just releasing a barebones is idiotic and will guarantee a flop of the whole thing.

>>108355515

This thread is pretty funny, OP. It speaks volumes about the pli/g/ht of /g/. You don’t buy a console to modify it with stuff you already have. You buy a console to play a game.

Does this thing even release? I don’t think so.

>With some second hand parts you're even going to get much better performance for the same price.
you know where to get ram cheaper do you?

everything that is effecting valve effects everyone else. the level of effect is due to how much money you have to spend. you don't have valve money to spend.

Maybe Gabe should buy a RAM factory instead of yachts

Give us Half-Life 3 and we'll talk.
>>
>>108356503
A second hand AM4 machine with DDR4 and a 16GB vram AMD 6000 series GPU will most definitely be cheaper and faster than the steam machine.

Reminder that massive fab capacity is wasted for shitcoin miners that constantly become obsolete as the difficulty rises, and shitcoiner pay billions for what was given away for pizza and sharpie up pooper pics in 2010.

Also reminder that perfectly working computers with 8-32GB ram are being thrown away because of Windows 10 "end of support".

Honestly...
After decades of farming an unprecedented amount of goodwill from their customer base,
[whilst having made their CEO a multi billionaire and most of their staff down to the janitor at least a 7-figure millionaire]
I believe the proper thing to do would be for Valve - and perhaps Lord Gaben personally - to bite a bullet and at least release a limited run of the Steam Machine at a loss.
Everyone - especially their loyal customer base - know that he and they CAN afford it.

They're slowly revealing their true nosen shape and size here.

I'm not liking it.

Valve/Steam seemed to have been the last bastion of unkikendom in this hellworld.
>>
>>108358753
You don't think them releasing a limited run would make people more upset than waiting until they're able to have stable production? I doubt we're going to get stable enough prices for them to release in 2026.

>You don't think them releasing a limited run would make people more upset than waiting until they're able to have stable production?
No, I don't think so.
People are upset to the ultimate degree by the thing not being released in any way shape or form, or in other words, they already are upset rn.
If successful, I'd like to believe that the Steam Machine is not going to be just a one off, but will eventually become a line of products like phones.
Therefore I think it's be best to bring the Steam Machine (2026) to market at any cost (to them) right now, even if it means a limited edition run.
Have the people apply for a pre-order slot. Have them fill out some forms. Judge them by their good-goy steam scores. I do not care.
Just get a few of them out of the door at a reasonable price for the already past-generation hardware package that it is.

Postponing the 2026 Steam Machine for another year in the hope of hardware prices coming down and availability to increase is risky as the hardware just gets older and older by the week.

Let's say component prices come down in 2027 from whatever their 2026 highs are going to be, yet not decreasing to their pre-AI-datacenter craze.
Those prices will still be elevated.
The Steam Machine hardware will just be older.
New "things" will be on the horizon very likely.
So who is the 2026 Steam Machine for in 2027?

I ain't paying "still too much, but just not THAT much" money for anything that can already be considered "old" in current year, in current year plus one.

Valve went full retard with the Steam Machine by trying to be repair friendly. They could easily eat the cost of memory if it was soldered but since it isn't, people would just be buying them en masse and pulling out memory to sell for as much as the machine itself goes. Using a standard PCIE graphics card means they have to pay for the entire assembly of the card and the GDDR6 on the card which only the card can access.
What Valve should've done is use something like Ryzen AI 388 maybe negotiate with AMD to get chips with crippled NPU to lower the costs. They can't quite commission custom silicon the same way Sony and MS do but AMD has plenty of silicon from failed projects exactly for such purposes. This is how the OG Steam Deck came to life, repurposing a failed notebook APU.
The Steam Machine is a failed project. It was outdated the day they announced and it'll be even worse by the time it actually releases. Since it's delayed so fucking much why not at this point wait for UDNA? A gaming PC/console that doesn't support FSR4 or DLSS4 is DoA.
No shit it's expensive when you go about doing things the most braindead redundant way imaginable. Instead of making a meme Linux PC they should've focused on it primarily being a console.
>>
>>108360943
You really think Valve has the manpower to make a console? They have like 300 employees.

A quick search tells me...
Xbox has 20,000 employees.
Playstation has 12,000 employees
Nintendo has 8500 employees.

Making an ecosystem like that, and actually having it secure, is a big endeavor. There's no way that 50 dudes or however many are actually on the hardware team can make a secure hardware console.
>>
>>108360727
>season passes
Rockstar invented the season pass. Valnve invented the battle pass.
The battle pass model is annoying but it is infinitely better than the system most f2p games had before it.
Cases are a more gray area but I'd say the concept is pretty inocuous. Though the way they animate them to make them feel as close to a slot machine as possible in CS is pretty scummy.
But the real problem with valve's cases/loot boxes are that the items can be traded, giving them a real monetary value and spawning the entire item gambling industry. I feel the initial intention was good but they really fucked that up and now it is impossible to fix the problem without causing pain to a lot of people, so they jusr let the status quo ride unless a government forces their hand.
>>
>>108355756
That's what I want to know too. Don't care about the Steam Machine but the Steam Frame is something I'm definitely interested in.

Also, where's the fucking Steam Controller? Can't use RAM as an excuse for that one. Put it on sale already.
>>
>>108360891
Antitrust is a thing of the past. Most of the mag 7 would have to get broken up if it was actually applied and those companies make sure to put money in the right pockets so it never happens, while justifying everything by going "muh strategic value" and "muh china".
We are headed into an era where every major corporation turns into a Samsung style everything-company that buys every potential competitor that isn't another megacorp.
>>
>>108360912
>and take a disgusting 30% tax.
Which is still less money than what is lost by not publishing your game on steam kek. Do you think valve should just give out that value gor free?

Use case?
>>
>>108360904
The money is so good from the AI datacenter corpos that the vital chip makers are just laughing at everyone over it as they make bank like crazy.
The average Jane and Joe could potentially make all their plans backfire by boycotting cloud AI services and large groups bugging small businesses to do the same, I speculate. Good luck trying to make that happen.

I don't get it, why fuck over the whole world if the services to be set up with the coming datacenters depend on us or businesses that depend on us?
I can only conclude sheer hatred of the masses.
