it does not seem like a good idea
>>108357385laptops need every degree off they can get
>>108357385>Why are they putting liquid metal in laptopsSo they can charge you $377 after multiple repairs
>>108357385It's not like liquid metal sloshes around. It's just a better alternative to thermal paste.I suspect the "metal spilling" happened during assembly and caused a short later on?
>inb4 user cracked open to change the paste and didn't know it was liquid metal
>>108357601anyone dumb enough to buy a "gaymen laptop" isn't smart enough to replace paste anyways lol
>>108357609I have a gaming laptop since I travel and work remote in asia, but even I know to look up before hand what kind of cooling my laptop takes and if it's liquid metal first
>>108357385The user probably cracked the heatsink open to change the thermal paste and didn't know it was liquid metal.
>>108357385
>>108357638>UK retarddidn't read
>>108357609I bought a "gaming laptop" because nobody makes mobile workstations anymore.
>>108357715i'm not in the uk, guy in image is not in the uk. i have no idea what you're talking about.
>>108357715UK people don't really use the word "retard" since it's considered offensive. They prefer to say "american".
>>108357762>2024>want to buy a mobile workstation>3,999.99+tip+quadro card that can't do optimus properly>only other option is random used ebay laptop with 30% battery health laptop>go look at a gaming laptop>check gaming laptops with expandable ram and dual SSD's>16 inch Ryzen 7 + 64GB ram + extra 2TB SSD>1100ish
>>108357801Yep, and all I really wanted was decent cooling and enough RAM to simulate my servers. But every laptop has to be ultra thin now which means shit cooling and soldered RAM, with the one exception of gaming laptops.
>>108357847macbook
>>108357967>shit cooling and soldered ram
>>108357547>It's not like liquid metal sloshes aroundLiquid metal migrates over time due to the pump out effect just like thermal paste and you end up with dry spots on the die. That's why on devices where it's pre-applied there's usually a sponge or something to stop it eventually reaching the PCB and shorting something out, but that's far from a foolproof solution. It used to be common knowledge that liquid metal wasn't a set it and forget it type of thing and it required regular maintenance, back when it was something only extreme overclockers used. Of course, the kikes who run these companies don't care as long as the device makes it one day past the warranty expiration date and also overvolt everything to the max to get a 1% lead on benchmark charts, so now even fucking laptops and games consoles have liquid metal to stop them catching fire, despite the fact it won't last even as long as thermal paste, let alone PTM or a thermal pad.
>>108357385I despise liquid metal. It's too easy to shoot yourself in the foot with it. It also has a habit of migrating away from the heat over time creating dry hotspots.
>>108357385if this happened to me and i paid for the laptop within the last 6 months i'd just contact my credit card and despute the charge as fraudulent. If you claim to provide a 2 year warranty and then pull this shit then you broke the terms of the purchase and not only do you not deserve your $377 but you dont deserve the money spent for the laptop to begin with. You can bitch and complain and blacklist my customer email or credit card but burner emails are easy to set up and so is burner credit cards with the privacy app
>>108357547it's possibly related toe manufacturing. it's hard to work with and it's probably easy to use too much. i've heard of ps5's used in vertical orientation having issues. i've also heard that asus flow laptop has issues and they advise you to let it cool before putting into a bag where it'll be vertical.
>>108358138Liquid metal is fine if you keep it on a semi flat surface. Where the shit sucks is how sony and xbox implemented it by having it vertical.
>>108358755The pump out effect has literally nothing to do with the orientation of the device. It doesn't just drip out due to gravity. It's pushed out by materials expanding and contracting due to repeated heat cycling as the device is used. It's a particular issue with direct die cooling, which is why a lot of people have switched to using phase change pads for those use cases. Also, Microsoft don't use liquid metal on any of the Xbox consoles.
lenovo legion doesn't have this problem
>reparingsaaar
>>108357762
>>108358138because of this pump out, liquid metal thermal performance starts declining after just 6 months, and by then ptm performs better. so glad i ptm exists, switched to that shit and never looked back
>>1083573851. it is a very bad idea2. gaymers want to get their butt fucked by corpos
