Anyone here running a dedicated box with Proxmox and then a virtual os with a firewall? If so, what box and what firewall are you running?

Dell optiplex 3050(mini) and pfsense.
It's served me well with about 4 years of service so far. My PVE server is too touchy to want to risk it running the network, but that's my personal choice in hardware.

no thats dumb as fuck, I use a shitty lenovo tiny as a firewall.
I do run proxmox on my server though because it was the only linux distro i found that supported root on zfs from the installer with no bullshit, the server only has 4 nvme drives in raidz1, no single boot drive to fail or bullshit archaic hardware raid card

me
>what box
chink fanless mini pc, i5-4200U, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD

pfSense

unfortunately this is the best way to have a captive portal with bandwidth limitations for my tenants (otherwise they'll suck up all the bandwidth of the shared wifi)
for simpler purposes it's better to have a dedicated router with OpenWRT though
