did they fix it with revisions?
>>
>>108358040
it raped my entire family to death dude
>>
>>108358040
No, even with these top pins that are supposed to help with managing that shit it doesn't stop your PC form smelling 'funny'. To many cases of fire damage.
>>
>>108358040
It's not inherently the connector's fault, it's the fact that the power socket on the GPU has no power regulation and all 6 wires feed into a single bus bar
>>
>>108358040
The only true solution came from third parties fixing it for them.
>>
>can design microprocessors that exploit quantum effects to put 600W to use crunching numbers reliably across trillions of transistors in a tiny piece of rock
>can't figure out how to connect 600W to the board itself
wtf seems like they put the tards in charge of board design and the smart people in charge of chip design
>>
>THE standard DC power connector since electricity was invented
>gigachad.tiff
Usecase for meme connectors?
>>
>>108358040
no

yes, it's all good now.
>>
>>108358040
It's impossible to fix it the cable. But if the thing was correctly implemented by the gpus themselves there would never be any fires.
The entire thing needs to fail and not boot unless all pins are connected instead of allowing all 600W go through one single pin in some cases.

It's the easiest fix in the world and I have no idea why they haven't done it yet
>>
>>108358049
No, sorry, that was me. I just framed the cable for it.

/thread
As for why they haven't done it yet it would marginally increase support volume and we can't have that. Think of the shareholders! I'm sure they're much happier with the reputational damage of releasing a fundamentally broken piece of shit.

i worry constantly. it took a couple weeks before i felt comfortable leaving my computer on when i left the house.
i ran a sustained 600w workload for 380 seconds the other day and i was nervous the whole time.
>>
In which models we see this thing burning ? Only on the 5090 and 4090 ? Or it's possible to see 5080s and the 5070Ti burning because of this ?

Why didn't they just use Anderson plugs?
These are used in the automotive industry. They can handle 300 amps.
>>
>>108358110
It's basically just two wires with insulation between the strands of the cable.
It's so fucking retarded.
>>
>have the opportunity to make a new high power draw cable standard from scratch
>spec it out with:
>small diameter wires
>connector that melts easily, doesn't provide a positive connection, and needs to be replaced every two or three times you unplug it
>no fuses or overcurrent protection
>>
>>108358340
It's because of the retarded specs for the connector.
It wants it's 12v blob.
>>
no
reminder that this only exists because jensen is a fag that cared more about his founders edition cards looking good and saving pennies on 4 pins than actually making it work
the 8 pin is rated for 250w and delivers 150
the 12vhpwr is rated for 650w and delivers up to 600
if you were to use 4x8pins to fuel the 5090 it would at worst result in one wire pulling 150w while this thing could shove 600 into one
>>
>>108358062
This.

>>108358111
Not even, see: >>108358062

Simple fact is NoVidya skimped on having proper pin design.
>>
logically good PSU with 3x8pin to 12pin is a better idea than native 12pin-12pin
>>
>>108358040
final solution is switching to 48V
>>108358117
>not keyd
if they did that, onions hands redditors would hook the GPU up backwards and blow it up and complain about a faulty design
>>
>>108358531
any card with the connector can melt. happens on both amd and nvidia.
>>
>>108358040
Just get a RTX 4070, good performance, consumption and still uses a 8 pin connector.
>>
>>108358830

no it is not one 2ms there goes 700W other 2ms there goes 70W
>>
Why can't everything just use these? Ignore issues like connecting two plugs from a single line into the gpu.

sata power is comfy
molex is comfy
sata data is comfy
pata data must be carefull and remember jumpers and stuff

I have been vindicated by sticking with a 4070 ti and not bothering with anything higher power, especially since I barely game nowadays.
>>
>>108359413
I fucking hate Molex. Those fucking loose ass pins fuck those shits fuck.
>>
>>108359529

obviously your not into crimping quality fans
>>
>>108358040
They updated the socket.
>>
>>108358040
no its still melting
far less than in the past after the 12v-2x6 update but it still melts
>>
>>108359413
>>108359430
molex is the most retarded shit ever and it even melted sometimes
>loose as fuck
>if you can't see it then you WILL be making at least three attempts to get it to mate
>sometimes the pins would come out when you were plugging it in

I'm genuinely curious. I assume the RTX's themselves haven't been fixed, but SeaSonic said they'd fix the problem on nVidia's behalf with their own cables. I bought a RTX Pro 6000 and a new ATX 3.1 SeaSonic 1600W and I'm still worried.

I honestly wouldn't worry with ATX 3.1 PSUs desu.
>>
>>108358110
It's a lot more sensitive to contamination and poor contact than the 8-pins it's supposed to replace and doesn't have anywhere near the built-in safety margin.
