What is the best BD player for Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, Blu-ray discs, CDs, and DVDs?
A PS5 lol I am so funny
a dedicated 4k BR player with all the codecs you would ever need and zero region locking.
>>108360535UHD-BR on a PC is a minefield, so many obstacles and hurdles to jump its not worth the effort. Papasonic rule the standalone 4k BR market, the Panasonic DP-UB820EB is awesome
>>108361101*Panasonic
>>108360590doesnt PS5 not play CDs
>>108361114Yup and SACD's!
pursuing anything more than dvd quality 720p is mental illness
PS5 cant play pirated discs, avoid all Sony players
>>108361327weak bait
PS5 UHD Blu-ray arbitrarily doesn't support Dolby Vision. Even though streaming apps on it do.
>>108360535>>108361327Dunno about blue rays I have acheap panasonic but the best DVD player I have is a rackmount pioneer DVD V8000 which does DVI-I and upscales to 1080i, TV does the rest . They're all digital mediums so it really does not matter a fuck unless they do something extra. I have a big physical media library but it's mostly DVD
>>108360535PS5, Xbox Series X or a PC with a Libredrive compatible bluray readerStandalone bluray players are not worth it because bluray discs are inherently reliant on a new set of encryption keys being regularly released, and it's always baked into the firmware of your device rather than a generic software update. So every single bluray player needs its own update to play the latest bluray discs.AFAIK the only device older than a decade that can play the latest regular bluray discs is the PS3. No standalone player ever has had good long term support.Consider a separate device for CD playback, even a mid-range dedicated player from the 80's will start playing discs faster than any multiformat player you can get. DVD as well since good image processing really makes a big difference when watching DVDs on modern TVs, and unlike blurays they don't need software updates to play.
>>108361411Same with Xbox Series/One UHD drives. The entire ecosystem is so shitty you might as well pirate.
>>108361440>rackmount pioneer DVD V8000 which does DVI-I and upscales to 1080i,Tis is the odl marketing blurb"Advanced upscaling: The player employs Pioneer's Advanced Reality Enhancer (ADENSYS) technology, allowing it to upscale standard-definition DVDs to near-high-definition resolution."It works really well, have a DVI to HDMI cable on it, goes into a UHD TV. The combination convinced me that a lot of blue rays are just upscale processed a few thimes themselves and they are not rescans. In my experience there are only a handful of blue rays that are actual rescans, like scarface.
>>108361457>Standalone bluray players are not worth it because bluray discs are inherently reliant on a new set of encryption keys being regularly released, and it's always baked into the firmware of your device rather than a generic software updateThis is why I never became huge fan of them, I have about three hundred but it was a fucking cancerous thing to do so they are only 10% of my physical collection
>>108360535anything but sony
For playback or for copying?
>>108361101>Papasonic
>>108360535I have a Sony UHD Player I hardly use with a USB port on the front of it. It’s pretty nice actually. I sometimes plug a cheap af USB drive into it with MKV files and the player knows what to do with them.
>>108360535
>>108360535Xbox One S>No gaymsAnd? It's unironically a great deal as a media player
>>108360535you need periodical bd key updates so it must be ps5 or recent xbox?
