its a sad day
lightning killed my mac mini and my 2007fpb
the mini is out for warranty, i gotta take apart the monitor to try and find out what died, the mini gave no video output to anything and the 2007fpb takes no video input from anything, both turn on however

on the bright side, i still have this stupid giant monitor sitting around in storage, so i just plugged the trackmania box into it
im actually surprised the intel 300T and GT 1010 can do this, because its some destitute tier hardware for 4k

the desk itself sucks. cheap target crap. monitor arm is an ares wing dual wall mount, which has a second arm but I just wanted the improved leverage from the wall post so it wouldn't rip out of the stud when i have this fuckhuge monitor at full extension to be angled sideways.

goal is to have my desk completely decoupled from the wall with abolutely zero wires.

consultant for space mission design and systems engineering, so putting shit in orbit and link and power and mass budgets and requirements and blah blah, i'm a spreadsheet jockey. but this ultrawide (or, "SUPER-ultrawide" as it is termed) is incredible for spreadsheets. oled g9. finally getting to do some flight software work though, which is just embedded systems with stricter determinism and testing standards.

I have a black pull-down roller shade in those windows behind my desk for the afternoons since it's a very reflective screen and the glare is awful without it.

since this is also the master bedroom, i used masking tape to mark off the areas of the wall that'd be hidden by the monitor when you're (1) standing in the doorway to enter the room, and (2) sitting in my wife's spot in bed, and then tried to only mount things in the overlap of those two regions (except the laptop pocket which needs to be accessible).

the white outlet extender thing, i don't really like the look of, but it was free. I'll do something better. May make a hollow wood trim column-type dealy that gives the arm bracket an attachment point slightly off the wall (since this monitor is still too fuckin wide to be able to go to a hard 90 degrees to the wall even with the arm) that will double as a concealed power cable raceway.

no, like i said, goal is that the desk is completely disconnected from the wall with no cords, reasons are very specific to my use case. notice with wireless mouse, keyboard, and even a fucking wireless xlr transmitter for my mic. this is a recent shift -- previously everything was mounted to the underside of my desk with a single big wiring harness wrapped in split loom connected to the wall, but my use case has changed.

My 900€ C4 42" is 15 months old now with over 4000 hours, with every possible anti burn-in features disabled including in service menu (outside of automatic panel refresh while the display is suspended) and there's still zero burn-in. HDR always on, 25% while desktop usage, 100% while gaming or watching HDR movies (rarely watch movies on it though), quickly adding up the gaming hours on my top most played games it's around 1600 hours.
Considering I have zero burn-in, I'm getting to a point I'm tempted to upgrade because there's already better OLED screens coming out, not because burn-in. If this goes on I'll dump it on the second hand market for 300€ while still having zero burn in in like 6 months or give it to relatives.

I would in this case go for a triple monitor setup and buy two mini-PC's and a MacMini and connect them all to a KVM.
This way, you can have them running at the same time and access them with a push of a button.
Each of them would display on all three monitors, depening on what computer you switched to for the moment.

You only need one mouse and keyboard with such a KVM.

With the current price levels of RAM and SSD/HDD, Apple is not that expensive anymore compared top the Loonix/Winblows shit that's on the market.
You just happen to dislike Apple.

>I wanted to set up some kind of home server in the room as well as a learning experience.
So many options you can go for.
Turnkey NAS solutions, DIY Home-Servers and so on. Size also matters. And that's depending on what kind of files you want to share and what your budget is.

Prices on RAM, SSD's and HDD's literally exploded. So every solution is comparable expensive seen to what we had to pay a year ago.
Shit hurts like hell, since i'm a data-hoarder myself. (DAS, complimented with a single 2TB SATA HDD in a USB Docking-Station connected to my router.
I use it as my personal NAS and FTP-Server for out- and incoming connections of friends and family.

Then go for a Ugreen NAS DH2300.
It has an
ARM processor,
two SATA-Bays for HDD's,
4GB LPDDR4X RAM (soldered on modules)

A friend of mine has this and it's so easy to setup. You can even sync your Smartphones data like pics and stuff with it if you want.
The device itself is dirt cheap and draws barely any power itself (i think it was like 5 watts or so).
On top of it you have to account the power needed for the HDD's. But you could also go for two SATA SSD's and make it totally noiseless.
There's a 4-Bay version of this also, that supports Docker. In case you're into it.
>>
>>108385610

You shouldn't, the USB ports should be powered by the monitor, usually, regardless if there's a host or not.
Sometimes there might be separate menu option for USB power in the monitor menu too.

Just try charging your phone from one of the USB-A ports, if it works like this, it will work with the LED strip.

>Fuck, it doesn't work on my main monitor and I can't find anything in the settings.
Probably needs host to be plugged in, maybe it's just a fully separate USB hub inside the monitor, sucks.
I guess you'll have to use a USB extension and get power from another USB port somewhere else or wall-wart.

You could get a non-USB RGB LED strip too then that uses a 12V power brick for example, gives you more options, USB might still be useful if you want it to turn on with the PC for example, if your USB ports on your PC are off when the PC is off and you use an extension to take power from a port on the PC.

What causes desk wobble? I bought a nice wooden desk top, attached some legs to it and it wobbles from side to side.
It's not even a large desk, the top is around 47 inches (120cm) and I placed the legs 27 inches apart (70cm), they look like pic related so they are really well attached.
I don't think it's the lack of a crossbar, right? Like, the desk is TINY compared to most normal computer desks, it shouldn't need one, but I don't know what else to do lol.

I really like the mixing on that anon, feels very spacious. Cymbals are a tiiiny bit too bright for my taste, gets a little bit uncomfortable after a while listening through studio headphones, but pretty good otherwise.

Propably just uneven floor or legs. Usually there's 4 screw thingies to adjust on the bottom. Or you can prop it with paper or something like that.

Sorry anon, English is not my first language. Maybe "wobble" is not the correct word, it kinda sways a bit side to side. The legs have rubber feet to stop them from sliding around and all four are making contact with the floor (big ceramic slabs, extremely level) and if I push down on the corners nothing moves.
Found a video that shows something similar in the first few seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhtwfnMW-XI but the legs on my desk are not that far apart and they're not that thin/flimsy, I thought that would be enough to avoid wobble but apparently it isn't?
