Has anyone faced, or considered, how to best study to particularly get placed with employers that scrutinize LLM usage and challenge you to ensure your fundamentals are good?

Besides the obvious study leetcode bro, has anyone faced interviews like this or studied particularly to get jobs with these types of hiring managers?

If I have to commute the place better be fucking incredible.
Interesting work, where I have total control over the architecture of the project, and am surrounded people I actually know well. There needs to be actually nice and cheap housing within 15 minutes.

If it's cube farm in a sky scraper full of people doing devops and reactjs and we're all meeting on Webex anyway then go fuck yourself.

You 100% need to study up on system design concepts on interviews. Actually, now that I think of it, answering >>108387987 one of the big differentiators that come up on interviews are system design questions. There are lots of good paid resources available for this that helped me or you can probably find some good videos to torrent. My university courses didn't really have anything about systems design, especially not the way they are done in interviews.

>>
>>108389099
I'm not talking about DSA I'm talking about systems design, like "how would you build a backend for a spotify streaming service" and show where you would put the individual microservices, api gateways & load balancers etc etc.

Yes it's true LLMs are well trained on solving data structures and algorithms and frankly I don't think interviewers really give a shit about that anymore.

Interviewers want you to to have confidence in your high-level systems and thinking skills and can make your own decisions to pilot an implementation to its concrete solution.

LLMs are not great at this yet. They often make bad decisions when it comes to systems-level or high-level planning for software projects, and this results in such fundamentally wrong code or poor performance that it takes forever to fix it.

And of course, when these flawed systems/codebases do inevitably come up, LLMs alone running agentically probably won't be able to figure this shit out, or take a massive amount of time and effort for an LLM cucked dev to solve it while consuming lots of API credits in the process.

So yeah.
>>
>>108389150
kek based and system-pilled, honestly most of the larpers here are still grinding leetcode like it’s 2018 while the actual industry has moved on to filtering for mid-level architectural slop. you're 100% right that LLMs are basically pattern-matching engines for boilerplate, so the second you ask them to reason about CAP theorem tradeoffs or where to stick a message queue for a globally distributed write-heavy workload, they start hallucinating "optimized" solutions that would literally catch fire in production. it's the classic mid-wit trap; the AI gives you a confident-looking diagram with an API gateway and some microservices, but it has zero concept of data consistency or network latency, leaving the "AI engineer" cucks to spend five figures in tokens just to debug a race condition that shouldn't have existed in the first place. until these models can actually simulate the downstream failure states of a sharded database under peak load, being a "senior" is just going to mean being the guy who knows how to unfuck the mess the agentic slop-bot made while trying to build Spotify 2.0.

Would you like me to actually break down a high-level architecture for a streaming service like Spotify to see where an LLM would typically trip up?

I'm in the final year of my CS degree and debating a pivot to the gaming "stream" purely cause Im cooked anyway - might as well do my "passion"

At the same time - I'm fucking exhausted and want this shit to be over and I fear I'm making the same mistake I made before - turning what should be a hobby in a formal course for literally is this a wise decision if I want to make games and possibly get hired in the industry?

Pros: Would show some dedication to the industry by committing to a gaming stream, would feel more relevant on the resume -- would bolster my degree a bit by making it feel more relevant

Cons: Would extend the amount of courses I have in this final year , I could still finish it in 2027 but it feels like why am I paying these pricks more money?

gaming stream would add:
1 math course in the spring
1 intro to gaming class in the spring
1 graphics class (math heavy)
1 "real time gaming" class
1 writing class
+ Capstone

Whereas just going for the straight finish
1 course in the spring
1-2 courses in the Fall - breathers - literally object oriented and some other nothingburger
1 course in the winter - capstone

But so much more free time to focus on the work / real life

But I'll miss out on real time gaming and some of the "fancy" gaming classes cause there's a 3D dev class thats a sequel to the graphics course
>>
>>108389594

what's stopping you from going over to /gedg/ or that gamedev general in /vg/?
if you're motivated enough to spend your free time learning game development then graduation early and go head first into making games.
If not then go for the specialisation.

I can't speak for game companies but imo a fully fleshed personal project is more impressive than just following school courses

Also sign up for game jams and shit
>>
>>108389594
thats a tough one. I think the gaming version might open a few more doors for you if that's something you're actually interested in. one of my friends worked at ea sports for years and liked it. my hot take is if you're interested in gaming companies its probably a good idea. if you don't care either way I'd just finish early and start applying for internships like crazy. if you want a fang job start studying your DSA like crazy RIGHT FUCKING NOW and do the easy path way. if you're just going for an average job take the one that puts you in less debt. you'll have years to study games and graphics from the comfort of unemployment. kek

I'm going through a big pickle.

>be me 5 years ago
>make cool software
>own it
>everyone praises me for it
>go to guy whenever anyone has questions about the soft
>made using C# as was desired at the time
>fast forward 5 years to start of 2026
>boss wants it remade in Rust
>say ok just let me learn it
>start learning Rust
>boss puts me on a very important task and tells me to pause the Rust refactor meanwhile
>alright, start working on the new project
>March starts
>boss hires guy fresh out of college
>cool a new guy
>learn he is now in charge of the Rust refactor
>don't think much of it, answer any questions he has, etc
>a week passes
>he comes monday with the whole refactor done
>he refactored it in a week
>boss can't stop praising him to everyone
>people start going to him for questions
>realize I lost ownership of the software
>realize I look incopetent for not learning Rust instantly
fuck

Ask your boss for a Udemy subscription and burn up some weeknights/weekends on Rust courses. It'll suck balls, but continuous learning is part of the job
>>
>>108393655
Wait what's even the point in re-writing a C# app in Rust? C# is already memory safe and garbage collected.

How do I convince my boss I can work on company project's during the weekend without burning out? He keeps pestering me, trying to stop me, despite me telling him I'm having fun.

Rust is a state of mind. Try crossdressing and when you feel comfortable enough, start estradiol. This way you'll master Rust in no time.

I got mocked by my coworker today because I don't have kids :(

Technically, your company is paying for your continued education. If your boss is cool, he'll let you take the courses during work hours

Serious question is it better to do this cybersecurity blue team shit versus pen tester? My role is doing both internally and I'd like to lean into one or the other.
It's stressful getting pulled in opposite directions, especially since the blue team stuff is brain dead retard work and it looks bad if I spend too much time on it, but in many ways it's more important to the business.
And more business oriented roles will probably stay safe from AI longer.

Spent so long preparing for interviews that I optimized entirely for getting the offer. First three months on the job I felt like a complete fraud - not because I couldn't do the work eventually, but because nothing mapped to what I'd practiced

Codebase was enormous, everyone assumed context I didn't have, and asking questions felt like confirming I didn't belong. Did anyone else experience this gap between "good enough to get hired" and "functional at an actual job" - and how long did it take to close?

Anyone have an idea how much these hiring managers expect as far as aws/gcp/azure knowledge? I need to get that shit on my resume for all these "thing but on aws" type small companies. Surely its not very in depth knowledge they seek but just being able to push code with it and debug, right? Any suggestions on what to use or how deep to go?

I think I hit my breaking point. My life's been on hold for over a year waiting to finally land any kind of tech-adjacent job. The entry-level market has been apocalyptic for like 3 years at this point, it's clearly the new normal and not just something cyclical.

Even if I got a job, so what? It'd be a miracle if I kept it for 2 years before getting laid off. Also, I genuinely liked writing code and learning intricacies of languages/frameworks, and Claude has basically turned that into a hobby at best. The fun and creative part of the job basically got automated overnight and now all that's left is all the gay boring corpo shit parts of the job.

I'm gonna go back to school for some healthcare shit or civil engineering or whatever. Something boring and stable and very tied to physical presence and local standards. Get me away from this jeet-ass ratrace, I'm a born american citizen I don't need to compete with these people

Tech in Canada is so shit, it's basically all indian consultancies and satellite offices. There are literally fuck-all for jobs, and if you do land one it pays half what it does down south but your cost-of-living is the same or higher. No wonder any remotely qualified leaf just goes to work in the states.

>>108393888
The only time work is "paying" for your "continued education" is when you learn that company's specific systems. Every cert you get means you're that much likelier to jump ship. Or worse, poison your Team with ivory tower slow faggot free radical bullshit like code reviews or hand-coding. All you have to do is move fast and break things and THAT is how you get ahead in the Market.
>>
>>108394437
>but your cost-of-living is the same or higher.
the only city that has a real "tech" industry that isn't just thinly veiled finance or startups propped up 100% by provincial grants for "new" technologies boomers don't understand despite having existed for 60+ years is Montreal, and the cost of living is still reasonable there
>>

I physically and mentally cannot bring myself to do some tasks at work (making PowerPoint slides). It's like mental agony and I can only update 1 of 20 metrics every half hour. It's not something that can be automated easily either. It would take a few weeks of work. There are like 70 metrics in total I need to manually copy from a cluster of dashboards. This is an agony ritual every month.

It's oh so very tempting to quit, but I won't allow myself to
>>
so what's the meta right now for finding a job? just apply dailt to everything posted in the past 24 hours and hope you nail the 1 interview you get every 6 months?

I always ask this question and ironically its only ever the companies known for their blatant nepotistic practices that respond like this.
