>programs clutter your file system by dumping files in Documents, Downloads, the user home folder or any combination of them instead of AppData
is there no better way of fixing this than creating your own copies of said folders?
I do this too but it doesn't solve the actual problem at hand, which is that the Documents folder, which is implied to be the appropriate folder for your personal spreadsheets and tax papers, is also the folder where games dump their non human readable database files and caches
it pisses me off so much that I'm genuinely considering writing my own minifilters to force program files into AppData. I've also considered running everything through Sandboxie.
more appropriate solutions would be appreciated.
>>
>>108390918
Not exactly sure what you’re doing, but you could always map a folder as a ‘drive’, and turn your SSD into say a C and D.

everybody should use ltsc

That's irrelevant but it adds to the experience for sure, like the last time I installed XP (~1 year ago) had to get me a USB optical drive for burning the drive and installing it. Turns out months later the optical drive came in handy

I guess it's the nostalgia of going back

Win 10 ltsc won’t have problems with running stuff right? I’m planning on completely getting rid off win11 from my pc and I would try this one as a replacement.
>>
>>108395899
as long as you aren't on a 12th gen or newer intel cpu it does not currently have issues running anything, although if you want uwp functionality you need to set it up via a script that i believe is somewhere in the op.

long-term, you will probably see new programs and devices that do not have baked in windows 10 support similar to the situation with windows 7. but it hasn't happened yet.
>>
>>108395899
Depends on the software itself, eventually software will drop W10 support, so you should check if that scenario is possible in your case.

Some software like browsers will keep supporting it for a long time but other stuff is more annoying with it, some even require W10 22H2 so you can't use LTSC because it's stuck on 21H2

Is telemetry disabled by default on win 10 ltsc? how's kernel protection on 10 compared to 11?
>>
>>108406754
No it isn't, you still need to turn it off in the registry or otherwise.
11 has more kernel related protections. It's like one of the reasons it has those hardware "requirements."

Did something change in diskpart defaults recently?
It used to set 1024 KB unallocated space at the end of the drive couple years ago but now defaults to full drive.
Should I re-partition my older drives too if the new behaviour is better?

How the fuck do I disable a Task in Win10 Scheduler if the system won't let me? I got no premissions no matter what I do.
>>
>>108390800
Unironically, what is the use case for thighhigh socks?
>>
>>108407209
i'm pretty sure the 1024kb is for alignment purposes and is actually at the front of the drive. it's useful for ssds but doesn't matter for hdds. it's possible the other disks are improperly aligned or something else is going on. either way i would not try to "fix" it on the other disks, it's probably there intentionally. either way it's just one megabyte.
>>
>>108407209
>>108407897
actually it seems like alignment might not be needed for gpt disks, which is most disks. it's possible the ones that have the reserved space are using mbr instead of gpt. older versions of windows might have set them as mbr automatically. supposedly (according to llms, take with a grain of salt) gpt doesn't require this.
>>
>>108407543
run mmc as admin and add the snap-in that way. sometimes mmc snapins like task scheduler have issues acquiring admin permissions if they are run directly. i assume that's probably what's happening.
>>
>>108407935
It just says that I have no permissions even as admin. Even tried to use PsExec to run it but that tool just keep throwing errors and won't work either. Tried to delete tasks from regedit too but they just magically reappear after restart. This shit is worse than malware.
>>
>>108408006
if admin doesn't work it probably has trustedinstaller privileges and you'd need to search for how to reassign them or how to gain that privilege yourself. typically this is done for things that microsoft thinks will damage your system if you change but considering their track record lately use your own judgment.
>>
>>108407916
Yea seems to be something about MBR compatibility, even in GPT mode
I tried switching to MBR and back to GPT and it created a partition with 1024KB free space
Then I CLEANed the drive and created full partition again
Maybe some compatbility flags are being set on conversion that are not set when creating pure GPT

Hey guys. I'm trying to switch from Nobara to Win10 LTSC. I used Ventoy to make a bootable USB. I got an error message. Can anyone help me out?

.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer"

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000014c
Info: the Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

I imagine this would be a shitty question, but I'll try... what web browser do you guys use in 2026?
I used to surf with Firefox since I was a teen, then it went to shit and I started using Chrome, but fuck Google so after years I went back to Mozilla, but it always crashes on me.
I started using Edge at work, not really bad overall imho but I'm not sure concerning privacy.
I'm trying DuckDuckGo browser, is it good or do people generally prefer Brave over it?
What do (You) use?

Thanks...
>>
>>108413000
To add, which one of the bunch has better built in adblocking that actually works (mandatory for youtube)?
>>
>>108413000
Firefox is still the one to go with if you want to truly own your web browsing. The best current chromium browser you should use is Brave with its very powerful in-built content blocker (which you can even add UBO to if you want from their own servers.) It's either/or IMO, Don't ever think about using Chrome or Edge if you don't want to feel like a product.

>>
>>108413000
every browser sucks to some degree, firefox (despite mozilla's best efforts) sucks the least. the main problem with firefox is them adding shit nobody wants or removing/rearranging ui shit to make it worse.
>>
>>108413000
if you want something chromium-based, i'd recommend ungoogled chromium combined combined with something like chrlauncher (or whatever solution you prefer) to get auto updates and the chromium web store extension since ungoogled disables those features by default (and i think they're useful).
>>
>>108413000
firefox with betterfox's user.js and ublock origin is pretty much the best browsing experience you can have right now

I just bought a lenovo thinkbook 16 G9 AHP and installed windows 10 on it using media creation tool from my old pc. It doesn't have wifi drivers, and the lenovo website only lists downloads for windows 11. What do I do? Device manager says the adapter is realtek.

>>
>>108413878
This. Try the 11 drivers first. If they work, great. If not, you'll need to use 11 to actually use wifi properly on that laptop.
