I have no idea what docker actually does and I do not care

Does anyone really needs more than 3 red flags?

are you retarded?

I'm trying to get into selfhosting and am honestly despairing a bit because some projects like immich only officially distribute via docker and I first have to reverse engineer their setup before I can even get started
>>

Nix package manager install apps on their own folder with their own dependencies. It's all a single configuration dotfiles that you can ship to other computers

Nah it's actually pretty comfy, fully deterministic build and you basically use the nix language to describe how your software should be built what deps it needs etc.

I must be out of the loop, you niggas hate this one too?
name one(1) alternative to Docker+Kubernetes that you can use at scale in a real enterprise setting and whose setup/admin won't make you wish you were dead

podman and kubernetes

Any wm + scripting.
I don't particularly care what anyone uses, but implication that "the world didn't exist before the advent of docker" is just misleading and annoying.
>b-b-b-but x y z
No, there always has been plenty of tools around. The docker has very apparent convenience tax and if you are fine with it - well, good luck.
