the google wifi point supports openwrt and can be had for $10

>openwrt
Eh, it's really not that great as a router or firewall, and, given the subject of the post I assume you're shilling it as a router, firewall, and AP all in one. It's decent enough for APs though, and better than consumer OEM firmware in that role.
>>
bought a Flint 2 last week
openwrt has actually fucked up something on it so if you install openwrt you actually lose functionality (160mhz channels)
so i thought fuck it and went back to the chink stock fw
>>
>>108412528
well no the issue is that vanilla openwrt doesn't include the closed source binary blobs that enable certain features and full performance. And they never will

the stock firmware does include those close sourced drivers
>>
>>108412424
old one was constantly restarting so I boughted a xiaomi chink router and plugged my ont box into it before flashing openwrt. shit just works
it can't do gigabit sqm but that's fine
>>
>>108412544
idk if that's accurate. why does 160mhz channels need special drivers lmfao.
>>
>>108412424
I was curious about OpenWrt but ended up going with MikroTik for my router and AP. I mostly configure via its terminal interface on the webfig, and it was a bit of a headache to get working the way I wanted. Not sure how the alternatves are, but I'd rather Latvian shit than pure chingchongnesium desu
>>
Is it generally possible to reflash oldish ISP routers? One of mine doesn't have a usb port.
I've got another one with a usb port that seems to work fine as another WAP/switch after disabling the NAT
>>
>>108412528
Flint 2 stock is literally openwrt
>>
>>108412443
This.
I'm running opnsense as router/fw and openwrt for WAP.
>>

>can be had for $10
Where?
>>
>>108412528
Skill issue, works on my Flint 2. The 160MHz channels depend on the country, select country properly and select the right channels.

If your country doesn't support 160MHz then it's skin issue.
>>
>>108412562
It took me 15 seconds to verify that the gl.inet version uses the proprietary mtk drivers and vanilla openwrt uses the open source mt76 driver that doesn't support 160mhZ
>>
>>108412922
It's the base, but gl inet cobbles together a version that supports black box firmware blobs, their cloud services and ofc they want to collect telemetry
>>
>>108412834
depends, usually no
>>
>>108412922
fucking everything runs """"""openwrt""""""" these days because major chip vendors appropriated it as their SDK.
any qualcomm device runs """""""openwrt"""""""", so do mediateks, probably a bunch others too
>>
>>108413245
makes sense
>>
>>108412424
Is like $60 on amazon, the fuck?
>>
>>108412424
>wifi5
>qualcomm chipset
why did you choose this router to highlight? real openwrt chads are using the w1700k.
>>

>Eh, it's really not that great as a router or firewall
Specify exactly why, with examples. You have 4 minutes to comply.

Really, it'll work for most simple home use cases with a single WAN connection, one local subnet, and basically no firewall rules. However, working in the absolute simplest use case for a router and firewall doesn't mean it's good at those things.
For all of these points, if your answer is "It's Linux you can just install tool X, which is also available on every major distro", I'm going to disregard it. If your router/FW/AP OS is no better than a spare 1u running Rocky Linux, it's not very good.
Multi-WAN support is buggy, and good luck doing any kind of BGP peering.
More complex firewall rules are locked behind using nftables directly, which gets us back to the 1u running rocky.
>>
>>108412992
are you running the stock openwrt (i.e. the one that came already installed on the Flint 2)? or the one from the openwrt site?
>>
>>108413873
>>108414856
Forgot to mention, but you can also forget about any DPI based reporting, intrusion prevention, or detection. Or, really, any good reporting at all.
>>
>>108414895
skill issue
>>
>>108412544
>acktchually the issue is
the issue is **wrt is trash for any wireless operations

It's not our fault that you're gay
>>
>>108414869
Real open sauce chad trad openwrt.
>>
>>108415113
Absolutely zero counterpoints, nice job anon. I'll take that as an admission that OpenWRT isn't a particularly good router or firewall.
>>
>>108415126
It's still not our fault
Cry harder fag boy
You never said that I was lying
LMFAO
>>
>>108415115
so how are you getting 160mhz channels to work given it doesn't work out of the box on official openwrt?
>>
>>108415126
oh, you've made points? i didn't see any.
