the google wifi point supports openwrt and can be had for $10https://openwrt.org/toh/google/wifihttps://github.com/kkestell/openwrt-on-google-wifi
>>108412424>openwrtEh, it's really not that great as a router or firewall, and, given the subject of the post I assume you're shilling it as a router, firewall, and AP all in one. It's decent enough for APs though, and better than consumer OEM firmware in that role.
bought a Flint 2 last weekopenwrt has actually fucked up something on it so if you install openwrt you actually lose functionality (160mhz channels)so i thought fuck it and went back to the chink stock fw
>>108412528well no the issue is that vanilla openwrt doesn't include the closed source binary blobs that enable certain features and full performance. And they never willthe stock firmware does include those close sourced drivers
>>108412424old one was constantly restarting so I boughted a xiaomi chink router and plugged my ont box into it before flashing openwrt. shit just worksit can't do gigabit sqm but that's fine
>>108412544idk if that's accurate. why does 160mhz channels need special drivers lmfao.
>>108412424I was curious about OpenWrt but ended up going with MikroTik for my router and AP. I mostly configure via its terminal interface on the webfig, and it was a bit of a headache to get working the way I wanted. Not sure how the alternatves are, but I'd rather Latvian shit than pure chingchongnesium desu
Is it generally possible to reflash oldish ISP routers? One of mine doesn't have a usb port. I've got another one with a usb port that seems to work fine as another WAP/switch after disabling the NAT
>>108412528Flint 2 stock is literally openwrt
>>108412443This.I'm running opnsense as router/fw and openwrt for WAP.
>>108412424>can be had for $10Where?
>>108412528Skill issue, works on my Flint 2. The 160MHz channels depend on the country, select country properly and select the right channels. If your country doesn't support 160MHz then it's skin issue.
>>108412562It took me 15 seconds to verify that the gl.inet version uses the proprietary mtk drivers and vanilla openwrt uses the open source mt76 driver that doesn't support 160mhZ
>>108412922It's the base, but gl inet cobbles together a version that supports black box firmware blobs, their cloud services and ofc they want to collect telemetry
>>108412834depends, usually no
>>108412922fucking everything runs """"""openwrt""""""" these days because major chip vendors appropriated it as their SDK.any qualcomm device runs """""""openwrt"""""""", so do mediateks, probably a bunch others too
>>108413245makes sense
>>108412424Is like $60 on amazon, the fuck?
>>108412424>wifi5>qualcomm chipsetwhy did you choose this router to highlight? real openwrt chads are using the w1700k.
>>108412443>Eh, it's really not that great as a router or firewallSpecify exactly why, with examples. You have 4 minutes to comply.
>>108413566check ebay fren
>>108412992>>108412995duality of /g/ay
>>108413873Really, it'll work for most simple home use cases with a single WAN connection, one local subnet, and basically no firewall rules. However, working in the absolute simplest use case for a router and firewall doesn't mean it's good at those things. For all of these points, if your answer is "It's Linux you can just install tool X, which is also available on every major distro", I'm going to disregard it. If your router/FW/AP OS is no better than a spare 1u running Rocky Linux, it's not very good.Multi-WAN support is buggy, and good luck doing any kind of BGP peering.More complex firewall rules are locked behind using nftables directly, which gets us back to the 1u running rocky.
>>108412992are you running the stock openwrt (i.e. the one that came already installed on the Flint 2)? or the one from the openwrt site?
>>108413873>>108414856Forgot to mention, but you can also forget about any DPI based reporting, intrusion prevention, or detection. Or, really, any good reporting at all.
>>108414895skill issue
>>108412544>acktchually the issue isthe issue is **wrt is trash for any wireless operations
>>108414989tard
>>108414895>>108414989It's not our fault that you're gay
>>108414869Real open sauce chad trad openwrt.
>>108415113Absolutely zero counterpoints, nice job anon. I'll take that as an admission that OpenWRT isn't a particularly good router or firewall.
>>108415126It's still not our fault Cry harder fag boyYou never said that I was lying LMFAO
>>108415115so how are you getting 160mhz channels to work given it doesn't work out of the box on official openwrt?
>>108415126oh, you've made points? i didn't see any.
>>108415166Have you tried being whiter?
>>108415871have you tried reading the thread? some anon is saying it's impossible because proprietary drivers, and you're saying it's possible but not really explaining how you did it. have you tried not being a nigger?
>>108416083the channel width issue is probably related to wireless regulations in the country.
>>108416083I already told you in >>108412992, choose your country and channel correctly. The only issues are that if you choose the channel wrong it fails silently whereas stock Flint 2 doesn't even let you select the wrong one, and that auto doesn't work.If your country doesn't have two contiguous 80MHz channels available, then again, the response is >>108415871
>>108416241I live in Britain, so it's debatable.
>>108416294Then you can only use channels 36 and 100, ignore anything else and namaste
>>108412424the 802.11 AC google wifi is ancient, it's ewaste>i have one running openwrt sitting right next to me
