Simplewall has ruined my PC. Disabling/enabling filters (including start-up ones) does nothing anymore. Programs and random websites no longer working.

there's your problem, you should've gone with uncomplicated

idk why people don't just use the built-in windows firewall. what is the usecase of some third party software?

Simplewall blocks a ton of stuff that the default Windows firewall doesn't. Including Microsoft stuff. It's much more airtight in general, Microslop stuff aside. I was working on something with Simplewall on in the background and had a blue screen crash. I think that fucked some of its filters. I couldn't even log into steam anymore. I'm currently reinstalling the OS.

I will need to find an alternative though. Blocking apps from going online is just too convenient. And the Windows firewall just doesn't come close. Is there a safer alternative?

Would a firewall that's not reliant on the Windows firewall be safer? So many of them are Windows firewall wrappers theses days that I don't know how to tell them apart.

OP here, another update: some issues persist even after reinstalling Windows. They might be router related. It's possible I might've played myself. Oh well, a fresh install will do my PC good, even if it will take days to restore everything to what it was.

And 4chan is giving me awful captchas. I'm gonna grab a drink or two.
