Shouldn't AI turn 10x developers into 1000x developers?
If you can make a hello world website in 1 minute with AI that would take a normal dev 10 minutes, then yes10x x10 = 1000

What would a 1488X developer be like?
When you use AI it's much harder to use any of your other skills. If you still tightly control it, you have to slow the AI down, if you run AI with full speed and multiple agents, there is little room for human intervention.

I saw someone say that AI has a squaring effect. So if you're a 2x dev you become a 4x dev, but if you're a 0.5x dev you become a 0.25 dev.

I think the skill gap will become even lower. When the harnesses improve and the large companies figure out which mcps and other plugins actually improve the agent performance they will all be shipped by default. At that point you will probably only need to give the AI some business context and it will write docs itself (it can already do that but not always reliably) anything else will just slow it down.

If you have to tardwrangle an AI to do even the most basic of shit just to have to vet it and fix it anyway, you're gonna turn from a 10x dev to a 0.1x dev.
