nagging for donations is annoying. That said, foss would probably benefit from a centralized donation API for local software. You have a program where you put in your yearly donation budget, it tracks what software you use and then you can send fractions to specific projects

these big corporate-lite projects like GNOME and KDE literally pay employees just like companies, they don’t do it from passion anymore
that’s why they aren’t ashamed of turning their work into open source freeware
