Will MacBook Neo be the death knell of budget mid-range Windows 11 laptops?
>>
isn't it competing with chromebooks?
>>
>>108419715
No, sir, not at all It is absolutely devouring most of the Windows ultrabook laptops even in the $700 range!
>>
Hopefully it will force the electron and webkit devs to optimize since there will be a huge installed base of 8GB systems.
>>
next year when it comes out with the a19 pro and 12gb ram its over

>>
>>108419715
Not really, unless you install a proper operating system on your Chromebook, but even with a Linux of choice on it most of them are dogshit in one way or another.
>>
>>108419872
they are competing with the type of people who don't run anything else on their computer anyway. it's not really powerful enough for anything else (does this explain all the iphoneification of mac os x?)

you make the common mistake. macfags are not techies. they are not gadget normies. they are macfags. they like the brand. they like the logo.

do people really call laptops PCs? i thought that term was used for work desktops only. i'll never buy a laptop.
>>
No
However it did contribute to Microsoft's latest apology blogpost going "fuck fuck fuck guys don't go, we'll give you what you want come back!"

A lot of people use windows for the familiarity, but younger people might go for this
>>
>>108419544
I don't know. Only 8GB RAM feels very shit and inadequate but I guess if all you do is run 3 tabs in a browser it's going to be fine.
>>
>>108419544
Let's put it this way. Sub $1000 laptops never had any business existing at all, until the Macbook Neo hit the market. I really, sincerely wish a slow, painful death upon anyone working at Apple, or anyone using their products, but it is the only sub $1000 laptop that is even remotely usable.

Dam, do people not understand why most people get a PC instead of a MAC? Is it really THAT huge of a mystery?

What does this have to do with technology?

The macbook neo LITERALLY cannot compete with PCs from 10 years ago. GTX 1050ti PCs were considered POVERTY computers 10 years ago.

>The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti was released on October 25, 2016. It launched as a budget-friendly, 75W TDP Pascal-based GPU, primarily sold through board partners (AIBs) rather than as a Founder’s Edition, with a launch MSRP of $139.

If you weren't a disgusting spergy third-world poorfag, you would know.
It's not just about numbers on a spec sheet.

Will this finally be enough cranking amps to run picrel as fast as a GTX 1050ti gaming beast?
>>
>>108419544
Yup. This is a result of decade of overpricing and rent seeking by x86 eco system.
Snapdragon could have eat up this segment if they werent retarded
>>
>>108421349
Mostly Intel shitting the bed.
They literally were doing nothing with their billions for like 15 years.
And AMD is always useless. Who knows - maybe conspiracy theories are true and they only exist as controlled opposition to counter anti-trust proceedings.
>>
>>108419744
>12gb ram its over
Barely an improvement, desu. 16GB is the bare minimum, and even that isn't great nowadays.
>>
>>108421287
It's not meant to be a gaming machine, retard, so that's a pointless metric to judge it on.
>>
>8gb

Obviously but not being able to match literal POVERTY gaming PCs from 10 years ago puts the whole value aspect into question.

The macbook neo is great value... at running geekbench.
>>
>>108421150
Except I could actually play on a Macbook Neo on my lap on battery for hours, because it wouldn't get hot or use much power, whereas that broken laptop on eBay probably got too hot for lap use before it broke.

also, that’s the stats for a DESKTOP 1050Ti, not the mobile version. Now go take a train to the face like the rest of your kin.

>Obviously but not being able to match literal POVERTY gaming PCs from 10 years ago puts the whole value aspect into question.
And I'm telling you, again, that's a retarded metric to judge it by. You could just as well pick any other laptop without a discrete GPU and compare it against a poverty gaming PC from a decade ago, and that would be equally as retarded.
>>
Why are third-worlders obsessed with playing games on a laptop? You just buy a desktop for that.
>>
Ive been trying to find someone who shows how much the neo slows down during actual program development and how it would look in practice but all that these people on youtube do is edit videos, benchmark or play the first 5 minutes of a 10 year old game.
Do macfags just edit videos, browse web and talk in meetings all day?
>>
>>108419544
“Budget” windows pc’s are simply scams at this point. Loud as fuck, thermal throttle almost instantly, low resources. Pieces of shit, absolute jokes. The pc market just preys on people who don’t know better. Who cares if a pc laptop has a gpu in it, it’s going to be power limited and it’s going to run like shit.
>>
>>108420939
Can it definitely be linked to Neo's launch?

Use case for hauling mountains?
>>
>>108422263
I'm just speaking from personal experience. I'm using 19GB (out of 32GB) right now (although, in fairness, I have a few IDEs open I could close, which would bring it down to ~16GB). I consider 16GB to be the bare minimum I'd be comfortable with, and 32GB is effectively the new standard baseline.
>>
>>108419544
They already died by destroying the value proposition vs cheaper Chromebooks.
>>
>>108422198
It won't slow down at all. What kind of performance do you think software development requires? Unless you're running a shitload of containers locally, you're not going to run into any problems.
>>
You buy budget computers for ssh and email.
No one is buying $100 netbook to game on.
>>

>Do macfags
Your brain is broken
>>
>>108422445
jetbrains' ides eat 4gbs of ram just by themselves. Add on a container, web browser and spotify for background music and you are already over the 8 gigabytes that the thing offers
>>
>>108422427
im a mac?
>>
>>108422520
I don't know a single jetbrains IDE that needs 4GB of RAM on MacOS. In my experience, it's closer to 2GB - I used to run IntelliJ on a trashpicked latitude with 4GB of RAM back in 2022.
>>
>>108422051
I bet you're (rural) American.
You have no idea how small average third-world (or even European or big city American) apartment it.
>>
>>108422557
No, Windows (currently). I had similar issues with feeling like I had too little RAM @ 16GB on Linux, too.
>>
>>108422466

>>
>>108422598
NTA, but I live in a studio apartment and I still have room for an matx PC.
>>
>>108419715
It's competing with mid tier shitter laptops like HPs and Dells. Apple must be really desperate if they're willing to damage their high status brand reputation by marketing to plebs
>>
>>108422598
I'm a poor european and I have 5 atx desktops in my bedroom

You live alone.
Poorfags live with their parents who would complain about energy usage and your ugly boxes ruining their decor.
>>
>>108419544
I am confused by this because there are cheaper windows laptops with more memory, storage, not needing an education discount and better battery life. The only downside of LNL and PTL-U is lower single thread performance
>>
>>108419544
buy an ad
>>
>>108422865
