I'm not sure if /g/ is the best place for this type of discussion, but I figured you guys would be the ones best acquainted with the contemporary internet.Where does one begin to find a new internet that's independent from the techno-capitalist conglomerate? I'm 28 years old and I used to be active on /g/, /mu/, /fa/ etc. as well as tumblr in my teenage years, and I remember these days online with great delight. But for the past 10 years I haven't been acquainted with anything aside from scrolling on the biggest social media platforms. Where could I begin to find some new communities or networks aside from coming back to 4chan? I realize that I should just lurk more, but I really would be genuinely interested to hear where others are spending their time online these days.
I2P. googling that will immediately put you on the government shitlist though.

Also, what are some reliable news websites aside from Hacker News?

There's nothing, get over it. Do the internet single player.
